Easy-to-learn software optimizes
High-Definition Survey™ projects
Leica Cyclone SCAN is versatile, easy-to-learn laser scanner
control software that optimizes High-Definition Survey™
projects.
Cyclone SCAN 7.1 gives Leica Geosystems HDS scanner operators unmatched scan control and multiple workflow options.
Users enjoy greater flexibility in managing a wide range of site
logistics and project requirements, all with renowned Leica
accuracy.
Cyclone SCAN operates time-of-flight and phase-based Leica
Geosystems scanners. Scanner-specific features let users get the
most out of each type of scanner. Users can take advantage of
workflows like traversing, setting up over a known point, and
resectioning; full-dome scanning; applying internal or external
camera images; wireless and unattended operation; and, a wealth
of field QA tools. Cyclone SCAN features also speed office processing
and reduce file sizes.
Features and Benefits
nnSmartScan Technology™
nnField geo-reference and auto-register*
nnAuto target recognize/extract/re-check
nnCheck scans against independent control
nnField QA checks of targets, features
nnTraverse, resection, stakeout, point*
nnAuto-calibrate and apply images to scans*

Leica Cyclone SCAN 7.1
High Field Efficiency and Comprehensive Control
Leica Cyclone SCAN provides high productivity and great scanner control.
SmartScan Technology™ provides fully adjustable, horizontal and vertical scan
density control*. Traditional traverse methods are supported including side
shots. Traverse editor supports non-sequential station setups, and full recon
figuring and management of traverse data in the field and office. Scripting
allows different parts of a scene to be automatically scanned at different scan
densities. Targets are recognized and extracted.
Automated routines can find all candidate targets in the
scene. Once the first target is found by the search
algorithm users can easily acquire the exact center
point and name targets, even while the system
searches for more targets.
Efficiency in the Office
Various scan filters can automatically exclude capture of scan data that is
outside of the desired scan area, not accurate enough due to excessive range,
etc. Convenient target ID’s, internal, automatically calibrated high-resolution
camera images* and automatic linking of scans with images* are all additional
handy aids for speeding office processing. Cyclone SCAN’s support of “tilt
sensor enabled” field methods* can even produce automatically registered point
clouds as they’re collected in the field.
Ensuring Leica Geosystems Accuracy
To ensure proper scan coverage and density, scans can be viewed on a laptop in
the field. Users can check scan data against elevation data collected by other
methods. Scan targets can be extracted and registered/geo-referenced in the
field and control point data and coordinates can be imported and exported.
Scanners with dual-axis tilt sensing can be monitored to ensure level accuracy,
while traverse closure reports and other standard reports for resection, setup
over known point, and backsight provide valuable QA data analysis.
Easy to Learn
It‘s easy to select desired scan areas from rectified, high-resolution camera
images or a quick “preview scan”. Integrating HDS data with data from Leica’s
TPS and GPS 1200 series is fully supported via X-function while other instruments are supported via standard LandXML or ASCII formats.
Leica Cyclone SCAN can operate all of the various timeof-flight and phase-based Leica scanners: HDS2500,
HDS3000, HDS4500, HDS6000, HDS6100, HDS6200,
ScanStation, ScanStation 2 and ScanStation C10.

Leica Cyclone REGISTER 7.1
Automatic Target Matching and Registration
Leica Cyclone REGISTER automatically matches targets or modeled objects from
different scanning positions to create a system of constraints. These are used
to integrate the point cloud data into a single coordinate system. Point clouds
can be geo-referenced to survey or known control data, quickly and easily.
Manage Field Collected Traverse Data
For scanners with dual-axis level compensation, users can deploy standard
survey traverse methods while scanning in the field. This collection method
provides for automated registration. Cyclone REGISTER provides complete, inoffice traverse management capability for managing, editing, and cleaning up
field collected traverse data.
Interactive target acquiring algorithms are used to
establish exact center points of targets for control from
each observation location. Users define target names
and heights; labels display these for ease of use.
Detailed Registration Diagnostics
Leica Cyclone REGISTER reports the overall accuracy of the registration. Detailed
registration statistics include the error for each target constraint and the Root
Mean Square (RMS) error and error histogram for each cloud constraint.

Leica Cyclone SURVEY 7.1
Efficient Point Cloud Manipulation & Navigation
Leica Cyclone SURVEY has many features that let users work efficiently with rich
laser scan data sets. Cyclone's Level of Detail (LOD) graphics display and
visualization modes allow users to “see through” walls, apply shaded rendering,
or enhance edges for improved comprehension of dense point clouds. Texture
mapping tools allow users to accurately “drape” photos of the scanned scene
onto point clouds for an even more realistic viewing experience. Cyclone
SURVEY’s friendly key plan and TruSpace panoramic viewing modes provide
intuitive navigation and viewing options.
One of the many powerful measurement and annotation tools is an automated tool for analyzing and
documenting clearances at overcrossings.
High-Performance Geometric Processing
Accurately produce a selected geometry type, such as planes and topographic
surfaces. Least-squares fitting and quality-of-fit statistics ensure reliable results,
while Cyclone’s advanced memory management provides high performance.
Rich Tool Set for Civil/Survey and Other Applications
For excavation and grading, Surface Deviation tools provide accurate quantity
calculations. Volume and area for cut and fill are precisely calculated. Output
options include volumes, contours, and/or tables including elevation differences
at a user-specified grid sample. A Clearance tool even finds and reports absolute
minimum vertical and horizontal clearances for overpasses, bridges, interchanges, and overhead sign structures. A Virtual Surveyor tool emulates a data
collector for creating topographic maps.
Leica Geosystems HDS Software Family
Cyclone SURVEY is part of a full software family for managing laser scan data.
Check the web address below for additional information.
Ground surface TINs and other meshes are easily
created and offer great value. Here is an automated

Leica Cyclone MODEL 7.1
Efficient Point Cloud Manipulation & Navigation
Leica Cyclone has many features that let users work efficiently with rich laser
scan data sets. Cyclone's Level of Detail (LOD) graphics display and visualization
modes allow users to “see through” walls, apply shaded rendering, or enhance
edges for improved comprehension of dense point clouds. Texture mapping
tools allow users to accurately “drape” photos of the scanned scene onto point
clouds for an even more realistic viewing experience. Cyclone MODEL’s friendly
key plan and TruSpace panoramic viewing modes provide intuitive navigation
and viewing options.
The automated “Pipe Run” feature lets users select
points on connected, straight pipe sections and the
system automatically models a best fit pipe run with
elbows in seconds.
High-Performance Modeling for a Wide Range of Applications
Accurately model a selected geometry type, such as pipes, planes, and
topographic surfaces. Least-squares fitting and quality-of-fit statistics ensure
reliable results, while Cyclone's advanced memory management provides high
performance.
Wealth of Plant & Structure-specific Tools
Continuous pipe runs, including elbows, can be modeled automatically. Leica
Cyclone MODEL's Piping Mode even lets plant designers add intelligent piping
data including specification, line ID, insulation thickness and SKEYs. Validation of
proposed design models – including clash detection – can be done within Leica
Cyclone or via export to popular plant design applications.
Rich Tool Set for Civil, Architectural and Other Applications
For excavation and grading, Surface Deviation tools provide accurate quantity
calculations. Volume and area for cut and fill are precisely calculated. Output
options include volumes, contours, and/or tables including elevation differences
at a user-specified grid sample. A Clearance tool even finds and reports absolute
minimum vertical and horizontal clearances for overpasses, bridges, interchanges, and overhead sign structures. A Virtual Surveyor tool emulates a data
collector for creating topographic maps.
Ground surface TINs and other meshes are easily
created and offer great value. Here is an automated
report analyzing cut and fill quantities using “beforeand-after” scan data of a ground surface.

Collaborative Work Group Access to Leica Cyclone Databases
Each module of the Leica Cyclone 3D point cloud processing software product
line is based on a Client/Server Object Database foundation. Cyclone SERVER
supports the concurrent connection of up to ten (10) ‘client’ users to the same
data server in a network environment. These clients can be licensees of any
Leica Cyclone or Leica CloudWorx application.
Central Leica Cyclone SERVER for Efficient Database Management
Cyclone SERVER eliminates data redundancy and related synchronization issues,
frees disk space on workstations, and provides more reliable access in network
environments. A dedicated server, administered remotely by authorized users,
can serve databases to Cyclone clients on the same network. Workstations with
licenses of Cyclone software can also contain Leica Cyclone SERVER licenses,
distributing the server load.
Cyclone’s PC-based server products are effective tools for computers with single
or multiple processors. This server based access environment provides a familiar
and compatible data access and management method for organizations already
using network distributed applications such as high-end plant design systems.
In addition, Workstation-based Cyclone installations can selectively locate
projects in an unshared mode, as opposed to offering all data available for
sharing. This offers performance enhancements by relieving the overhead
required to support a multi-user access environment to the data. Users have
the productivity advantage of this capability whenever they choose and can
selectively share the data with their workgroup again at any time.

Leica Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1
Data import from
third-party laser scanners
The Leica Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1 software module provides
users with optimal office efficiency for working with scan
data from third-party scanners within the industry’s most
popular point cloud software solutions: Cyclone and
CloudWorx.
cloud data from third-party scanners in the native data format
directly output by these scanners. This capability avoids time-consuming data conversion steps to neutral data formats and it
minimizes the size of imported files for what are often large data
sets.
The Leica Geosystems Cyclone and CloudWorx family of software
products represent state-of-the-art point cloud processing
solutions. While Leica Geosystems also provides the industry’s
leading laser scanners, some organizations have a need to utilize
data from other vendors’ scanners, yet still want to take advantage of the capabilities of Leica Geosystems software and
prefer to do so in the most efficient way.
The ability for Leica Geosystems to provide this native data format
import capability from third-party laser scanners is based on direct
agreements with scanner manufacturers who want users of their
scan data to be able to work efficiently within Cyclone and CloudWorx software.
In addition to a user’s ability to work with any scan data in neutral
formats such as ASCII, PTS, PTX, and PTG, Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1

Leica Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1
Native format compatability with third-party laser scanners
With Leica Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1 and CloudWorx users can import third-party
laser scanners native formats. This allows the full and efficient use of all
the valuable Cyclone modules and features such as registration, 3D modeling,
data analysis, Cyclone PUBLISHER and TruView, Cyclone II TOPO and all that
the Cyclone modules offer.
Direct importing of data in native format from
third-party scanners provides greater office efficiency
and versatility for Cyclone and CloudWorx users who
need to work with such data.
In addition to individual scans, Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1 also supports the importation of registration transformations from other vendors. This provides the
flexibility to leverage registration work if it has already been done in another
scanner manufacturer’s software. Therefore, in addition to doing productive work
in Cyclone, IMPORTER also supports a workflow where users can do most of the
work in a third-party system and simply use IMPORTER to bring the data into
Cyclone format for delivery to a customer or to comply with contractual delivery
specifications.
In addition to its direct importing features, Leica Cyclone IMPORTER 7.1 also
supports a vast array of the standard visualization features of Cyclone so it can be
used in a standalone manner. Users can browse the imported data visually.
IMPORTER also supports a long list of other important project data formats such
as BMP, JPG, LandXML, etc.
