Frequently Asked Questions Installation related Issues: It is assumed that the User who reads the FAQs has already read the Enrolment Client User Guide attached above.Aadhaar Enrolment Client Installation Screen Shots: 1) What is the pre-requisite to install the Aadhaar enrolment process ? • Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0Ghz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache) /15.4" bright view Widescreen XGA/ 2 x 1024 MB DDR 2 667MHz/ 80GB SATA HDD @ 5400rpm), USP ports – 4 or hub to connect hardware devices. • Desktop ( 2GHz 1 Dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 100Mbps NIC Windows XP Professional - SP3) • Desktop ( 2GHz 1 Dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 100Mbps NIC Windows 7 Professional / Enterprise Version) • Desktop ( 2GHz 1 Dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 100Mbps NIC Windows Vista) • Bio-metric devices - Iris scan(Cross Match/L1), Digital photo camera , Finger Slap device (Cross Match/L1 ). The user should be an administrator to log into Aadhaar Enrolment Client alternately user with administrative privilages can also install the Aadhaar Enrolment client. Laptop or Desktop should have updated O/S. (which can be performed by connecting to internet and selecting live windows udpate) • • (This is the user name and password that the user uses to login to the laptop/desktop) Note: Administrative privileges The user should have system administrative rights i,e to add or remove programs,create new user,install new library files etc • Internet Connection mandatory during Installation (Preferably Broadband internet). 2) While installing Aadhaar Enrolment client should do we need to change any security setting on my Laptop/Desktop ? Operating System: Windows XP SP3 OR Windows 7 (32-bit editions). 6) Where can I find the installation steps document? Along with the installation kit : Read me document gives step by step information. 7) Where will I find the drivers for Bio-metric devices i.e. (Iris Scan, Slap/Finger Print Scan and Camera/ webcam)? The drivers/VDM’s are available along with the Aadhaar Enrolment Client setup (Iris and Finger Slap Scan are from Cross Match Technologies/L1 Identity solutions and Mobileyes or other Certified Vendors) Any camera which is 2MP is recommended(Drivers are provided by the respective Vendors). 8) Can I use the existing database (SQL 2008 or any other database) installed on my Desktop/ Laptop? No, If any database is already installed on the desktop/laptop the installation process might throw an error. To resolve errors, contact Help Desk. 9) Should the Enrolment client be installed in the same order as specified in the README document ? The updated .net version is a part of pre-requistes which can be installed before installing Aadhaar Enrolment client. AADHAAR_Tech_Doc _InstallProcedure.Net3.5SP1.docx This is applicable only to Win XP O/S only. 11)How to configure the enrolment station information? This should be configured by the Registrar Only. The user needs to login to Aadhaar Enrolment client as Administrator/Administrator User. After logging in Enter relevant information and click on register (fresh configurations only)/save 12)How to confirm if the biometric devices are recognized by the Enrolment Client? After logging into the Aadhaar Enrolment Client check the footer area i.e. Left hand bottom corner. The first image indicates if the Iris scanner connection. The second image indicates the camera connection. The red icon will not be seen if the devices are recognized as shown in the below screen shot (This screen shot indicates that Iris, Finger Print and Printer are not connected/recognized, only Camera is recognized). 13)Where can i get the transliteration software? Transliteration software can be downloaded from Google website Weblink : http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/ Choose the language and select 32 bit to download. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 8 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 14)How can I enter the data in Vernacular language (Local or Devanagiri script)? Once the data is entered in English, move the mouse pointer aside the Vernacular Text box-The Local or Devanagiri Scripts will auto-populate. 15)How to correct the incorrect transliteration in Aadhaar Enrolment Client? If the Google ime is installed on desktop/laptop, the fields are editable and can be corrected as shown (ref screen shot below). 16)Can I Upload the master pincode data after the AadhaarClient Intallation is completely? © UIDAI, 2010 Page 9 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions No, Master pincode data needs to be downloaded along with the AadhaarEnrolment Client Set_up only. In case of pincode is missing for the particular region/village/town, contact UIDTechnical support team or Helpdesk. 17)Whom to reach out incase the pincodes are missing for the current enrolment drive? Ensure that the Pincodes required for the current Enrolment drive are available if its missing,contact UID Technical Support team or Help desk 18)How can I import the Pre-Enrolment data into Aadhaar Enrolment Client ? Once the Aadhaar Enrolment Client installation is done completely, the Operators/ Supervisors or registrars can upload the data using “Import PreEnrolment” Tab. Frequently Asked Questions User and Authentication releated issues: 19)While logging into Aadhaar enrolment client what should I do if I get an error “Invalid user name or password” ? This error comes if 1. Either the user name or password is not correct 2. Or the user has no password created for the login user name. It is mandatory to have users created with administrative privileges. Password cannot be reset to blank. (Refer the Screen Shot given below). Ensure the user uses the “Name” and not Full Name to log into the application The Test user in not present in list of users created. Hence, the error. Create a user by name test. 20)How can I create user for enrolment client? 1. In Windows XP: Go to Start -> Control Panel/Settings -> User Accounts -> Click on Advance -> -> Again Select Advance ->Click on User Folder -> Right click the mouse on selecting the User folder -> -> New window opens up to create the New User. The steps are applicable for both Windows XP OS and Windows 7 On the system Desktop :select My Computer icon -> Right click the Mouse >Select Manage -> Expand Local Users & Groups -> Highlight the Users Group and select the user you wish to Grant the system admin privileges to -> Right click on the Mouse and select properties->Select “member of Tab” -> Click on “Add “ Tab -> Type Administrator and click on check names-> Confirm OK as shown in the below screen shot. Also make sure the respective user id or login id (other then administrators) is part of administrator group (Ref screen shot below). © UIDAI, 2010 Page 13 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 22)How will I know if the user has system administrator privileges? The given steps are applicable for both Windows XP OS and Windows 7 OS. On the system Desktop :select My Computer icon -> Right click the Mouse >Select Manage -> Expand Local Users & Groups -> Highlight user wish to Grant the system admin privileges -> Right click on the Mouse and select properties>Select “member of” Tab -> Under this Tab ‘administrators’ should be displayed. This confirms that the user has System Administrator privileges. Kindly contact the Administrator/Rregister to get registered as an operator ? Operator should be registered before the Aadhaar enrolment client is installed. If the user is not the registered with in the enrolment client will display the above message. The user can be registered after client is installed in the user credential should be reset. Contact Helpdesk to reset the user credentials. The registrar will create a credential file to maintain the credentials of the users of the enrolment client like operators and supervisors. The file will contain details like: ∗ Operator/supervisor ID- This will not be the UID. This is mapped with the UID of the users at the server ∗ Operator/supervisor Name- will be auto-populated based on the operator ID input from the operator/supervisor ∗ Type- to determine whether it’s an operator or a supervisor. Currently, the credential database is imported as part of installation launch itself. If any of the text field doesn’t adhere to the data type i.e. if there are characters which are mentioned as part of data type for the fields mentioned above, the application shall not import the file and throw an error message. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 17 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 24)How to register the Aadhaar Enrolment Client ? Registrar should enter valid RegistrarID,Enrolment Agency Code and Station Number (Refer screen shot below for format description) Once the information is entered click on register to proceed with the authentication. If Enrolment AuthUser or Enrolment AuthCode is missing contract UID Technical Support or Help desk to generate afresh. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 18 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 4. Frequently Asked Questions Compatibility issues and Aadhaar Enrolment Client Installation (Including Biometric devices) Errors 25)What does “Error importing the master data. Please contact system administrator” error mean? This is usually seen when user credentials folder is not updated with any user information. Kindly take care of two different issues : a) The user credentials file shouldn’t have any user repeated. b) There shouldn’t be any user which has special characters. 26)What to do if the enrolment client application doesn’t recognize the Bio-metric devices (Iris ,Figure Print or lap scan,Digital Camera) ? Check if the device drivers are installed, you can do this by checking the Services.msc from the Run Command as shown below: © UIDAI, 2010 Page 19 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions • Stop all the above services in the following order by right-clicking on the service and clicking on Stop. o Cross Match VDM IScan o Cross Match VDM LScan o AADHAAR Camera Vendor Device Manager o AADHAAR Biometrics Device Manager • Now start all the above services in the following order by right-clicking on the service and clicking on Start. o AADHAAR Camera Vendor Device Manager o AADHAAR Biometrics Device Manager o Cross Match VDM IScan o Cross Match VDM LScan For Crossmatch devices the drivers will be installed as part of the Enrolment Client installation pack. In case of other vendors, the devices the drivers needs to be installed separately. For Web Cam (for e.g.: Logitech) the drivers need to be installed either online or offline. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 20 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 27) What steps should be taken to solve the Error : Cannot drop database AADHAAREnrolmentClient This error is seen in either of the cases: 1. when the UID_Import folder is not pasted in C:/ drive as mention in to user doc. (Copy the “AadhaarEnrolmentClient” folder as-is to “C” drive From the downloaded Aadhar Enrolment setup location on Desktop/laptop. Refer screen shot below) 2. Windows logged in user is not the system administrator. If still an issue Escalate to L2 Technical Support 28) What is Setup Error? This error occurs in either of the below cases: 1. The Enrolment Client is not copied in C:\ drive. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server and delete the AADHAAREnrolmentClient.mdf from Data folder and AADHAAREnrolmentClient_log.ldf from Log folder Uninstall the Aadhaar Enrolment Client Only Re-install Aadhaar Enrolment from the setup.exe (Refer below screen shot) If still an issue contact UID Technical Support/Help Desk. 29)What is “Requested registry access is not allowed” error? This Error is seen only when Installed user (logged into Aadhaar Enrolment Client) doesn’t have administrative privileges To rectify this login as the administrator and install the Aadhaar Enrolment Client again. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 22 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 30)How can I uninstall the Aadhaar Enrolment client from Desktop\laptop ? • Login to the machine with an account having administrator access. • Stop all the services as mentioned in the section “” • To un-install the application, go to “Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs” and remove the installed components in the following order: • AADHAAR Enrolment Client • VendorDeviceManager • L SCAN Essentials 6.2.1.0 Runtime • I SCAN Essentials 16.0.0.400 Runtime • AADHAAR Biometrics Components • Vcredist Setup • Aadhaar QSS SDK Setup Please note that un-installation of the above components will not uninstall any of the pre-requisites that would have been installed, viz. SQL Express 2008, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Windows Installer 4.5, Windows Installer 3.1. 31)What is the error “Another version of this product already installed”? Aadhaar Enrolment Client is already installed on your laptop/Desktop. To update to newer version uninstall Aadhaar Enrolment client (only) and reinstall the same. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 23 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 32)After installation if there is error “system log is full” what should I do (Refer screen shot below)? Go to run and type eventvwr ->Select Application under Windows logs -> right click and clear all the events. 33)I get the below error while installing Aadhaar Bio-metric Client “ Cannot Start Application ” Application download did not succeed ? This is seen if the Aadhaar Enrolment client is installed without un-zipping the Aadhaar Enrolment Client from the FTP server. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 24 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 34)Bellow error is seen during Aadhaar login Enrolment Client ? You can ignore this and proceed further to login Aadhaar Enrolment Client. This error is usually seen during incomplete Aadhaar Enrolment client installation – hence cannot create database on the already existing datebase during Installation process. If still an issue follow below steps Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server and delete the AADHAAREnrolmentClient.mdf from Data folder and AADHAAREnrolmentClient_log.ldf from Log folder Uninstall the Aadhaar Enrolment Client Only Re-install Aadhaar Enrolment from the setup.exe (Refer below screen shot) © UIDAI, 2010 Page 25 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 35)While downloading google ime getting the error Download error. The downloaded file failed verification. Error code =0x80040508 There hasn't been a definitive answer to this one. I assume the full error is "Download error. The downloaded file failed verification. Error code = 0x80040508 " There is certainly a problem using a proxy server, see this article in the Google Pack help center: http://www.google.com/support/pack/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=56921 However try it behind a corporate proxy requiring authentication will get a clear message telling why the installation failed.I think the only solution for you would be to get a copy of the full installer. OR check with your (work-place due to firewall setting) network team, so as to allow or open port to download software for Goggle ime (Could be for half an or so). 36)Not able to configure System configuration for Enrolment Agency (Register and Agency Details) and Edit tab is grayed as shown below This is usually seen if the user logged into Aadhaar Enrolment Client is not the Administrator or Administrator User. Hence its the tab’s are unable to edit. (Refer FAQ User and Authentication releated issues:) If the attached .pdf steps doesn’t help then sometimes the Administrator itself will not the added to any group hence need to confirm -( Win XP O/S) : My Computer Right © UIDAI, 2010 Page 26 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions click using mouse Manage Local users and Groups Groups Double click on the Administrator Pop-up window should display Administrator under General tab 37)While installing SQL 2008 R2 getting an error : ngen.exe - Application error “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)” This is error is not related to Aadhaar Client Installation. ngen.exe - Application Error - The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). We suggested the client to reinstall the operating system however they were still facing the issue. When the system has an OS Windows XP SP3 installed and not even any of the .Net Framework has been installed please follow the steps given below to resolve the issue. 1. Click on Start>Run>Cmd and in the Command Window Type msiexec check if the Windows Installer is 4.5 2. Go To Services and check if the windows installer service is started and automatic. 3. Once the above 2 steps are in place to install the .Net Framework Please click on the link given below: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d0e5dea7-ac264ad7-b68c-fe5076bba986&displaylang=en © UIDAI, 2010 Page 27 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions This Download will contain Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 service pack 1 is a cumulative update that contains .NET Framework 2.0 service pack 2 and .NET Framework 3.0 service pack 2 cumulative updates. Hence we will no longer face the ngen.exe error. 38).NET 3.5 framework download error Ideally this is seen if the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 download has been abruptly stopped (could be due to various reason or due to connectivity issues ). Kindly make sure the Laptop/Desktop is connected while installing .NET Framework. 1) Check for windows updates and install everything recommended 2) Reboot the machine 3) Run 3.5 setup again 39)While installing the client below error is seen during setup – An error occurred while installing system components for UID. EnrolmentClient. Setup cannot continue until all system components have been successfully installed. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 28 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions This is seen if the dependent software are not installed on laptop/desktop (Aadhaar Bio-metric Components etc ) Kindly follow un-installation procedure as stated below • To un-install the application, go to “Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs” and remove the installed components in the following order: • AADHAAR Enrolment Client • VendorDeviceManager • L SCAN Essentials 6.2.1.0 Runtime • I SCAN Essentials 16.0.0.400 Runtime • AADHAAR Biometrics Components • Vcredist Setup • Aadhaar QSS SDK Setup PLEASE FOLLOW THE ORDER OF UNINSTALLATION (Also refer Pre-requsites in Readme doc received Along with Aadhaar Enrolment Client zip folder) Please note that un-installation of the above components will not uninstall any of the pre-requisites that would have been installed, viz. MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2008 R2 EXPRESS, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Windows Installer 4.5, Windows Installer 3.1. © UIDAI, 2010 Page 29 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions 40)While un-installing the Aadhaar Bio-metric vendor device manager (I-Scan sdk) Error 1001 : An exception occurred while uninstalling. Click on OK and un-install from Add and Remove Programs if still the issue exists escalate to L2 Engineers. 41) While searching any object from Aadhaar Enrolment client window getting an error : Login failed for user ‘uid’ (Ref below screen shot) This is seen if the password entered for SQL express 2008 is other then the one mentioned installation guide. (Ideally should be ‘Aadhaar123’) © UIDAI, 2010 Page 30 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions Select “Mixed Mode (SQL Server authentication and Windows authentication)” as “Authentication Mode” and Enter password for system administrator (sa) account as “Aadhaar123” and confirm the same password. Click on “Next >” button to proceed with the installation Note :If SQL Server administrators is not selected then please click on “Add Current User” button to add the current admin user. 42)While uninstalling SQL 2008 R2 getting an SQL Network Interfaces error:26 – Error Locating Server/Instance Specified © UIDAI, 2010 Page 31 of 35 Version 1.1.0.2 Frequently Asked Questions Kindly contact system administrator to un-install SQL 2008 R2. This is due to incomplete SQL 2008 R2 un-installation, where the instance created in earlier SQL 2008 R2 installation is deleted completly. 43)While logging into Aadhaar Enrolment Client getting an error “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” Invalid user name and password. Go to C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL Server and delete the AADHAAREnrolmentClient.mdf from Data folder and AADHAAREnrolmentClient_log.ldf from Log folder. If still a issues contact UID Technical Support /Help desk. 44) Where can get installation guide for L1 Identity devices ? Refer below doc for installation guide. This is due to SQL instance not being removed completely during un-installation.
