Look at the Big Picture for Leadership
Requirements
At this point, you can see that leadership is all about duplicating yourself. At each step along the Leadership
Career Path, you advance and are richly rewarded when you develop new teams beneath you.
Volume continues to drive your success and your downline leaders’ success is key for you. Everyone wins when
you develop a large pool of competent Team Leaders and above.
The leadership maintenance requirement shown below the table are designed to ensure that leaders continue to
lead by example and promote new First Generation Team Leaders as part of each rolling 12-month period.
By the time you reach the title of V.P. or higher, the maintenance requirement is two new First Generation Team
Leaders in every rolling 12-month period. At this point in your career, your leadership skills will be so polished
that this will be second nature to you.

Your 30-Second Commercial
You are in business for yourself and you will want to prepare a 30-second commercial to share when someone asks,
“What do you do?”
What is the purpose of a commercial?
Commercials are a way to advertise businesses, products and services. Commercials also give you the chance to share
Gold Canyon Fragrance Consultant and Host opportunities which increases your business success. Choose to share.
How do you develop a commercial?
It’s easy. Think of what you love about Gold Canyon. Is it the fragrances, the body line, the ambience created by the
candles, the opportunity to help others start a business or the opportunity to give away free merchandise? Now put that
one thought into a sentence or two that will get a response of “Really? How?” from the person with whom you are talking.
For example:
“What do you do?”
•
“I help others start their own home-based businesses.”
•
“I give away candles for a living!”
•
“I am in the fragrance business.”
•
“I share how to create a warm and welcoming ambience in your home.”
•
“I help young moms get out of the house and enjoy adult interaction.”
•
“I help women de-stress.”
•
“I make cleaning your home an aromatherapeutic experience.”
Each of these statements will elicit the response of “Really? How do you do that?”
Now interested individuals will be asking you questions about your business and you are not perceived as a pushy
salesperson. You want your commercial to be just enough to get them thinking and asking questions. Pique their interest.
Continue answering their questions very simply. Give them a chance to ask another question instead of overwhelming
them with more information than they can remember. Again, the key is to build interest and allow them to ask questions.
Have a commercial when talking with young moms, career women, teachers, college students or other people you may
encounter. | 14 |

Circles of Influence
As in any business, you must have customers to be successful. Start with people you know. Sharing your new business
venture with family and friends first will give them an opportunity to support and encourage you.
So, who else do you know? The average person knows 200 people. Use the next two pages as a worksheet to list people
whom you can tell about Gold Canyon. Write down everyone you know. It doesn’t matter whether you think they would
be interested in Gold Canyon or not. Just get their names on the list!
Now you can start to make calls and share your excitement. There are five possible outcomes
of your calls:
1. The person you call will accept an invitation to your Gold Canyon Debut Party.
2. The person you call will schedule their own home Party.
3. You will sponsor a Fragrance Consultant.
4. The person you call will place an order.
5. You will ask for a referral.
Here are scripting examples to help you think through your phone calls:
“Sheri, I am so excited! You are one of the first people I’m calling. I am a new Consultant for Gold Canyon. We have
“The World’s Finest”® candles, body products and home décor. I am having a Party at my home and would really like it if
you could come see what I’m doing. Can I count on you?”
“Hi, Carol! You’re not going to believe what I’m doing! Are you familiar with Gold Canyon? Well, I’m a new Fragrance
Consultant and I would love to give you free product, including wonderfully fragrant candles and body products. I need
six Parties in the next 21 days. Can I count on you?”
“Peggy, I know you have been looking for a flexible job and I think I have found it. I just started with Gold Canyon and
it’s great! I can be my own boss, work my hours and make a really good income. When can I come by and share what
Gold Canyon has to offer?”
“Mary, since you aren’t able to attend my Party or schedule your own home Party right now, I’ll drop off our latest catalog
so you can see our wonderful products. That way you’ll know what we have and can order for yourself or gifts anytime.”
“Hi, Patti! This is Holly Smith. I know it has been a long time since we talked, but I am so excited about a company I just
started working with. When I first joined Gold Canyon, I thought of you and wanted to let you know what Gold Canyon
offers. I also wanted to ask who you know that might be looking for a fun, profitable home-based business or would love
free candles, body products or home décor.” (Asking ‘Who do you know …?’ is an effortless approach to getting a referral
and creates curiosity about Gold Canyon without being pushy.)

Controlling Your Calendar
What: Booking home Parties based on your schedule
When: Current Month
Where: Personal Calendar
Why: To select 8-10 days each month for home Parties
Benefits:
•
You’ll stay organized.
•
You’ll schedule home Parties on days you have available.
•
You’ll be consistent in your business.
•
You’ll intentionally build a business.
•
You can prevent stressful situations.
It is very important you begin with control of your Party schedule. Select 8-10 days each month when you are available to
do home Parties. You want to “overbook” because you will have Hosts who reschedule. By booking eight Parties, you are
likely assured of having a minimum of six Parties held.
When someone has agreed to book a Party, offer your next two available dates.
“Mary, I have next Sunday or this Thursday available. Which works better for you?”
Always offer your earliest date last. The last date people hear is usually the date they select.
Continue offering your next available date until you agree upon one. If she wants a Party on Saturday and that is your
family time, explain this to her. Usually people are flexible. If she still wants her Party on Saturday, you have a choice to
make. Your options are to:
•
decide to make an exception and do the Party,
•
offer the Party to one of the best Fragrance Consultants on your team or
•
share the booking with your sponsor
If you ask, “When would you like to have your Party?” she may give you a date three months away on a day you do not
want to have a Party. Then you lose control of your calendar or you have to say, “That’s not a good time for me.”
Schedule home Parties within two weeks of the original Party date if possible. If you schedule Parties too far in advance,
the Hosts could possibly:
•
reschedule.
•
cancel, or
•
have lower Party sales due to decreased excitement from the Host
