INTRODUCTION
MERCEDES 722.3, 722.4
Mercedes first introduced the "722" models in model year 1980. The 722.3 is found in most models and the
722.4 is found in the 190 vehicles. This manual covers the procedures necessary to overhaul and repair both of
these units. This manual also covers the differences between the units in the valve body and governor. The
basic internal components such as the pump, gearsets, drums clutches and bands are the same. This manual
includes both the original manufacturers information along with some of the engineering changes and updates.
