To kick off the Channel Martin has produced a fantastic Video Report on Ysgol Llwyn Yr Eos' visit to Park Avenue on Saturday, to watch Aber Town surge back into the Top Two with a wonderful 2-1 over Airbus UK Broughton. Aberystwyth Town's YouTube Channel can be found at www.youtube.com/channel/UC_mcSx0cmXZDs6C_-sevCzA This weekend saw Aberystwyth Town support the Fortnight of Action in their home match against Prestatyn Town, both teams wore anti-racism T-shirts prior to kick off to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card and its anti-racism work. Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The organisation utilises the highprofile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The majority of the campaign’s output is the delivery of education to young people and adults in their schools, their workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. The Fortnight of Action forms part of the FARE Football People action weeks and aims to challenge discrimination and celebrate the contribution we all make to football, wherever we live, whatever our connection to the game and whatever our background. SRtRC Campaign worker Jason Webber spoke about the Fortnight of Action saying: “This year’s FOA will see a record number of clubs and leagues unite across Wales in match actions. Racism continues to spoil the beautiful game and we must all do our bit to step up our efforts in challenging these issues to once and for all eradicate it from football and society.” Jason works with clubs across Wales utilizing sport as an engagement tool for young people. Football is a sport that is followed by all, and should be an enjoyable experience for all, whatever their racial or ethnic background. We hope you enjoy the game this weekend and ask you to support the player’s action before kick-off. Follow the campaign on Twitter @theredcardwales and Facebook/theredcardwales. If you see or hear racism at any level of football, please report it to the club, stewards or the police. Further details about the campaign and the Fortnight of Action can be found at www.theredcardwales.org AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON www.airbusfc.com Last weekend SAw Airbus UK Broughton support the Fortnight of Action in their fixture against Rhyl, both teams wore anti-racism T-shirts prior to kick off to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card and its antiracism work. The Fortnight of Action forms part of the FARE Football People action weeks and aims to challenge discrimination and celebrate the contribution we all make to football, wherever we live, whatever our connection to the game and whatever our background. Support from Welsh Football Clubs has been integral in helping Show Racism the Red Card progress their work in Wales. During the 2013/14 season the campaign worked with over 20,000 young people and held 28 educational events at stadiums across the country supported by professional players. Supported by the Football Association, the Fortnight of Action has been running since 2007 in Wales. More clubs and leagues have joined the action weeks each season. This year will see over 80 clubs across nine leagues involved. SRtRC Campaign worker Jason Webber spoke about the Fortnight of Action saying: "This year’s FOA will see a record number of clubs and leagues unite across Wales in match actions. Racism continues to spoil the beautiful game and we must all do our bit to step up our efforts in challenging these issues to once and for all eradicate it from football and society." Our club ambassador this season is Glenn Rule and director of football Andy Preece also highlighted the club's stance against racism: "Racism has no place in football or society and we must keep supporting the great work Show Racism the red card is doing," Preece says. "The improvement over the past few years is significant but we all must keep working together as there is still work to be done." Jason Webber works with clubs across Wales utilizing sport as an engagement tool for young people. A key part of the Fortnight of Action in Wales are the grants provided to community groups that further social inclusion by bringing people of different communities together through sport. Further details about the campaign and the Fortnight of Action can be found at www.theredcardwales.org or contact the Welsh office at: Tel: 02920 351 616 Email: [email protected] Photos (above left) club ambassador Glenn Rule, director of football Andy Preece and Andy Jones show their support as do the whole squad (above right). DIRECTOR of football Andy Preece is not too worried by an early season dip in form that has already left his side seven points adrift of TNS. The recent 2-1 defeat at Aberystwyth was the Wingmakers' third in four games, but Preece says: "Our target was always first to get into the top six, then from there obviously we are looking for European qualification. "Nothing has changed on that score." ." This article courtesy of www.airbus fc.com, the Airbus UK Broughton FC website. ANDY PREECE has supported the introduction of new rules making it a legal requirement for football clubs to interview at least one black or ethnic minority candidate for key roles. The Wingmakers' director of football told Dave Goodban of the Flintshire Chronicle he sees no reason to oppose the ‘Rooney Rule’ in British football - and said he believes there is still racial discrimination in the boardrooms of some professional clubs. Preece spoke out after Football League chairman Greg Clarke announced a review into the under-representation of ethnic minority managers and coaches. "The percentages don’t add up for some reason, whatever that is. It’s impossible to say why, because no-one’s ever going to come out and say they’re not hiring someone because he’s black," said the 47-year-old, who had successful spells at Bury, Worcester City and Northwich Victoria before joining Airbus in January 2012. The Rooney Rule was established in 2003 by Dan Rooney, owner of American football side the Pittsburgh Steelers and the chairman of the NFL’s diversity committee. It stipulates clubs must interview at least one ethnic minority candidate for senior sporting roles. Preece said: "I don’t understand the opposition to it. Just because you interview a black manager doesn’t mean you have to give him the job. I’d never want to get a job because I’m black, you want it on merit. "It’s just an opportunity to get in front of a board and put your ideas across. It doesn’t guarantee anything, it just gives you a chance. I don’t see why anyone would be against it. Why would they be? What are they scared of? That worries me. I think if more black managers get the chance to get in front of a board, the percentages would go up and it’d be more representative." During his four years player-manager at Gigg Lane, Preece steered the penniless Shakers to the 2003 Division Three play-offs before the club was forced to let him go. He has since been interviewed for several Football League jobs without success. "There’s been a number where you look at the club and think ‘it fits, my profile fits the club’ and you don’t even get an interview, and it does get frustrating," he said. "My record is pretty good when you look at it. I’ve been successful. I’ve had tough jobs, not clubs with loads of money, and I’ve probably got a 50% win ratio over 600-plus games. "You’ve got to tick all the boxes and make sure there’s no reason for them to ignore you, so it does get to you when you go for an interview and you get great feedback but you don’t get the job, and they can’t tell you why you haven’t got it or what else you could have done. You have to keep going – I’m still young and I’m not going to give up. I love my job and I’m happy here. It’s a great opportunity at a really well-run club in a competitive league, and you’ve got Europe as the carrot. "I don’t think I’d move for a job below the Conference, but you obviously want to manage at the highest level you can and I think I’m capable of going higher – I’ve proved I am." Among the 72 Football League clubs, Chris Powell of Huddersfield and Carlisle’s Keith Curle are the only nonwhite bosses. Preece, who will soon get his Uefa Pro Licence, became the first black English manager to lead a side in Europe last year. He concedes it’s ‘impossible to say’ whether he would have had a chance if he was white. "I wouldn’t like to say I haven’t got a job because of the colour of my skin, but if you look at the overall picture and the numbers then it’s obvious something’s not right," he said. "In some boardrooms there will be certain people who find it very hard to accept the idea of a black manager, whether it’s a generational thing or the way they’ve been brought up I don’t know. "You still get some racism on the terraces and in society in general, so it stands to reason it’ll be in boardrooms as well. Most people don’t look twice at a black person these days, but there are some still around that do. "I said five years ago it might take 20 years to change, so hopefully we’ll see more among in next generation." BANGOR CITY www.bangorcityfc.com City chairman Dilwyn Jones has come out in support of under-fire boss Nev Powell. Report by Tomos Hughes of the North Wales Chronicle BANGOR City chairman Dilwyn Jones has come out in support of under-fire boss Nev Powell, but admits the manager’s fate could rest on the outcome on the next two key matches. With the Citizens currently sitting bottom of the Welsh Premier League without a win in the first nine matches, Dilwyn Jones is hoping to see a quick turnaround. He said: “We’re only eight games into the season but I think the critical bit is the next two games. “The question might be a bit more tricky to answer in 14 days’ time, because we’re playing the two teams directly above us. “If we’ve played 10 and lost eight, we’d have to think about shuffling things around. “It’s a bad run but I’d rather fix a broken machine than need a new one. At the moment things are a little bit broken but they can be fixed. “There’s no talk at our end of any unrest and Nev hasn’t had any pressure from the board. “We recognise there are a few things that need sorting out. With Mark Limbert [assistant manager] going, that was an extra factor. If you analyse the factors, players have gone straight from Iceland to pre-season training, we’ve had injuries and there’s been some refereeing decisions which you can’t legislate for. “It’s the first real bad run we’ve had in years and it’s been compounded by injuries and indiscipline. It just defies belief. My statement would be, now’s the time to get behind the team and the manager. “It’s been flat at home for quite a long time now - now’s the time supporters need to cheer them on.” City's woeful start to the Welsh Premier League campaign continued on Friday as they fell to Cefn Druids by a single, late, goal. CARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownafc.com No betting or the laying of odds is allowed under any circumstances while spectators are within the boundaries of Richmond Park or from any outside building or structure which gives a view of a match in progress. Recently representatives of Betting Agencies have attempted to work inside the ground. They have been stopped from conducting such work and have been warned that should they continue they will escorted from the confines of Richmond Park. These Agents are easily spotted. They have a microphone around their neck and mobile phones in each hand. Should any spectator see such person (or persons) they are requested to report the matter immediately to the nearest steward or club official.. CEFN DRUIDS www.cefndruidsafc.co.uk On Monday 13th October, representatives from Cefn Druids FC, from Wrexham, joined football legends including Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs at the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Community Awards, presented by McDonald’s, after being named winner of the Grassroots Impact Award in the annual grassroots football awards. The FAW Community Awards aim to recognise and celebrate those volunteers, clubs and leagues, across Wales who dedicate their time to grassroots football in their local community. Josh Roberts and Richard Griffiths from Cefn Druids collected their award at Cardiff City Stadium ahead of the Wales v Cyprus UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match, at a national ceremony where they got to meet McDonald’s Head of Welsh Football, Ryan Giggs. Cefn Druids FC has made a huge impact in their local community by tackling anti-social behaviour with the help of the North Wales Police. By targeting troublesome hot spots, the club has set-up a free football programme for 12-15 year olds called ‘Your pitches, Your Game’. The programme has been a huge success with over a hundred hours being delivered to the community and anti-social behaviour being significantly reduced. The programme is now a tried and tested vehicle to continue to reduce anti-social behaviour, and will continue to grow in the year ahead, making Cefn Druids Football Club true grassroots heroes. McDonald’s Head of Welsh Football, Ryan Giggs said: “Cefn Druids’ award is a reflection of the hard work that goes into grassroots football which runs up and down the country. It is thanks to volunteers like those at Cefn Druids that our young footballers can enjoy grassroots football in a safe and fun environment. It’s important that we recognise the extraordinary efforts of the volunteers and clubs across Wales because without their dedication, time and effort the game as we know it wouldn’t exist. “I would like to personally congratulate all the volunteers at Cefn Druids on winning, it is fantastic that they have been recognised and it was a pleasure to meet them on the night.” Local McDonald’s franchisee, Stewart Williams, said: “It is a privilege to congratulate the volunteers from Cefn Druids on this award. My restaurants in Wrexham support a number of local grassroots clubs and it’s fantastic that local volunteers like Cefn Druids, who dedicate countless hours to grassroots football, provide constant opportunity for our local community to enjoy the game. “Without them football across Wrexham would cease to exist so it is vital that we celebrate and recognise them.” McDonald’s has been working with the FAW for 12 years to improve the standards of grassroots football. As part of McDonald’s ongoing commitment to improving the standards of grassroots football, the partnership between The FAW and McDonald’s was recently renewed for another four years. The programme, which includes the annual Community Awards, focuses on raising the standards at accredited clubs from better safety, and better advice, to better kit and better recognition for volunteers. . gap CONNAH’S QUAY www.the-nomads.co.uk Congratulations to Jay Catton, who last night picked up the Performance Development Coach of the Year award at the Welsh Football Trust awards. In September, ahead of the Bangor City game, Jay was presented with the North East Wales FA Performance of the Year Award, and last night saw Jay double his awards allocation by picking up the National Performance Development Coach award. Jay received the award at Cardiff City's stadium ahead of the European Championships qualifier between Wales and Cyprus, and was presented on the pitch at half time. The official programme for the evening commented on Jay's achievements; "Jay has been working tirelessly within the gap Connah's Quay Academy for the last five years, taking the football club to levels it never thought possible. His dedication to the club is second to none working with over 150 players across 12 teams from age under 6 upwards. Not only does Jay have a track record of improving and developing young football talent, but also the Welsh Football Trust utilised his knowledge and expertise to help support the recent Cymru Cup events in South Wales. The players of gap Connah's Quay may have had some excellent triumphs on the pitch recently, but it is the positive attitude and philosophy that Jay has instilled in his sides that makes them stand out. Jay is a true student of the game and a real example to other coaches. A huge congratulations to Jay from everyone at The Nomads and from all at Welsh Premier Times NEWTOWN AFC www.newtownafc.co.uk DEFENDER Shane Sutton has labelled Newtown's clash with Connah's Quay 'massive' ahead of two more tough games. Following tomorrow's clash the Robins face TNS and Aberystwyth for the second time this season, however Sutton is focused on the task in hand. He said: "Three points will be massive on Saturday and they are vital. We owe it to ourselves for a poor performance on Sunday. Teams around us are winning so we can't afford to drop off now. "I'm confident we can win any game and we go into Aber and TNS with confidence, and they will be interesting. GAP are in a relegation battle already so it is going to be a tough game. We need to keep playing the way we have done in the last few home games and not change that." Sutton expressed his disappointment at throwing away a 2-1 lead last week, however he says that the disappointment shows how far the Robins have come. He said: "We should have got the three points and it was gutting to concede a poor goal and lose the lead. Saying that though we didn't play well and we were holding on for a point at the end of the game. "We have all set our standards now as a team and individually, and we just need to keep performing well and the results will come." The defender has been without his regular centre back partner for most of the season, as Kieran Mills-Evans (left) has been on the sidelines with an ankle injury. However he is back in the squad this week after the midweek outing against Berriew. And Sutton has been pleased with his replacements at the back in the form of Tom Goodwin and Max Penk, and was also pleased with the performances of the youngsters on Tuesday evening. He said: "Without KME playing it has been Gooders or Max, and both have played well which makes my job easier as I don't have to worry about who’s playing next to me, and I can concentrate on my game. "Sometimes I've played right side of the two with KME being injured which is obviously my preferred side. He came back however on Tuesday and it was also good to see the youngsters get 90 minutes. It can only help their game through playing with experienced first team players. "Also the injured boys coming back is a bonus to us. It is horrible to see them out and they are back now fighting fit so it will make the other players fight for their place which is only a good thing." Boss Chris Hughes believes there is no need to panic despite the Robins going down 2-1 to relegation placed Connah's Quay. Sean Miller pounced on a defensive error to give his side the lead, before Terry McCormick punched through his own net. However Gary O'Toole grabbed a late winner, and Hughes said he won't panic despite no win in two games. He said: "In patches we looked good. "They hit us on the break twice, and first of all we got caught playing out from the back, and the second was from not stopping a cross. We didn't have a lot of chances but we had half chances, however our quality in the last third was disappointing. "We have 15 points from ten games and there is no need to panic, sometimes this happens in games, and they were going to win one game and unfortunately it came against us. But credit to them, they hit us on the break and we need to be brighter and cleverer to learn from that." The game seemed to have a lack of energy in the first period, however the boss didn't think his players lacked the urgency they had showed in previous weeks. He said: "I don't think we were lethargic. "They came and sat deep and it was always going to be a game of patience. We didn't move the ball quick enough and now we have a good reputation for being a good footballing side, we will have sides coming to set up and cause us problems. And we need answers to solve these problems." See Hughes' full interview later on Newtown AFC TV. PORT TALBOT TOWN www.porttalbottown.co.uk The Steelmen returned to form at the weekend with a commanding victory over Bangor City and one of the most pleasing aspects of the performance was to see the Blues finish the game with three youth-team products on the field. Eighteen-year-old Kostya Georgievsky (left) made his senior debut for the club as a 61st minute substitute, while Jarred Harvey handed another debut to 19-year-old midfielder Nikki Parvin late on, and Kieron Williams, 18, was also introduced adding to his previous substitute appearance against Cefn Druids. The victory left Port Talbot within a point of sixth-placed Bala Town, who they face at Maes Tegid in next Sunday’s televised game and head coach Jarred Harvey was quick to praise the club’s youth structure. “I think it’s of testament to the club and think we’ve got a fantastic youth system,” explained Harvey post-match. “There’s a lot been said recently about clubs using youth players and we had three out there and not even just that, there are players already in the squad who have played and represented this club at youth level. I think that’s a big testament to this town and the players who represent Port Talbot.” “It was one of those games, I made a tally of about five chances in the first half hour and we didn’t take them and I genuinely began to think that it wasn’t going to be our day, but again – character. “The boys didn’t allow it to affect them and they buoyant at half-time and they went out for the second-half and just dominated the game.” PRESTATYN TOWN www.ptfconline.co.uk Paying tribute to the tremendous determination his team showed in their win against high-flying Aberystwyth Town, Prestatyn's Assistant Manager Neil Gibson said: "I think I can remember three or four occasions in the game where we've had two or three players put their bodies on the line inside our own 18-yard box. "Aberystwyth are a good team, they're going to create chances and we're going to have to do that to win games of football, but we probably haven't done that enough in some of the other games this season. "With having a young side you do get some inconsistencies, but one thing we've got to have from them is effort, heart and endeavour and we had that in spades today.” Seasiders to take on Wrexham in friendly on Tuesday 19 Oct, 2014 Town are delighted to announce that the we will be taking on Wrexham in a hastily arranged friendly on Tuesday evening. RHYL FC www.rhylfc.co.uk No news this week THE NEW SAINTS FC www.tnsfc.co.uk ……. Continued from front page “We wanted to partner with a Championship winning football club as part of our ongoing marketing strategy and felt that The New Saints would help to grow our business at a fraction of a price of an English football league club,” commented Darren Lavendar, Managing Director of Planet Hippo. “Together, we can benefit from the continued success that the team achieves, both on the pitch and in the community, and expect this deal to be the start of a successful long-term business partnership.” Key to this new sponsorship deal has been the success of the club’s other commercial partners. For example, during the eight years that Total Network Solutions was involved with the club, the company achieved a massive increase in brand recognition as the latest results were read out live on TV every Saturday afternoon. Total Network Solutions’ growth rate was around 60/70% a year and the Oswestry-based business was awarded the title of the UK’s Fastest Growing Company on three different occasions. Derma V10 has also sponsored the team for the past two seasons, during which time the club has won two Welsh League titles and one Welsh cup as well as representing Wales in two Champions League campaigns. According to Bruce Lansom of Derma V10: “Sponsoring TNS FC throughout one of their most successful periods with our logo displayed prominently on team shirts, stadium and on national television, has delivered increased awareness of our brand and products across Wales, the UK and Europe.” “We are delighted to announce this new sponsorship deal which will enable us to reach an even wider fanbase,” added Ian Williams, Chief Operating Officer at The New Saints. “The New Saints are currently experiencing massive growth on a number of social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. The increasing number of likes and followers, coupled with a growth in matchday attendances, presents significant commercial opportunities for organisations looking to increase their online market presence.” The club has a very strong web presence because of the success achieved by The New Saints on the pitch with many thousands of articles appearing on leading news sites such as the BBC through to random bloggers. As a result, the club’s Google rankings are very high with stories often appearing on the first 50 pages presenting further commercial opportunities for sponsors.. SCORECARD League It has been decided that The New Saints’ opening goal against Prestatyn Town on Saturday (11/10/14) will be officially credited to Matty Williams – not Kai Edwards as was originally reported. The 6th goal in the same match was originally given to Chris Marriott – but due to the fact that his shot was not goal-bound it will be officially recorded as a Ross Weaver own goal. In the Rhyl v Newtown match on the same day – the visitors’ second goal has been confirmed as a Jason Oswell strike. 17/10/2014 Bangor City Cefn Druids 0 1 Derek Taylor 87' Bangor City 1. As you know the visitors secured the victory in torrential rain which leaves them 7 points ahead of closest rivals Airbus UK. Some people will moan that it’s predictable and boring that the Champions seem to be charging towards another title -which would lead to another bumper payday from UEFA - which could then in turn lead to continued domination of the Corbett Sports WPL. While I can understand that point of view, as I’ve said previously, I honestly believe that it is important to have a club that raises expectations, which by definition raises the standards of the chasing pack. So without TNS’s financial clout – what can our other member clubs do challenge Craig Harrison’s boys? Maybe we could learn a thing from women’s football. I recently visited Glasgow and found out that their unpaid players train four times a week and play a game every weekend as well. Imagine what could happen if certain WPL clubs adopted this approach for a trial period? I would be intrigued by the findings. One thing I do know is that Friday night matches are well supported in our National League and I have to feel for Carmarthen and Port Talbot – who’s opportunities to host evening games are few and far between. Over 500 people braved the elements at Richmond Park on Friday. Kinder weather and a greater South Wales representation in the League would certainly help their cause. Securing consistent promotion and relegation from the South and North is absolutely essential for the wellbeing of our beloved League. This can only be achieved if everyone associated with the pyramid system truly starts working together for the betterment of the whole of Welsh football. Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel Cefais y fraint o dreulio nos Wener ar Barc Waun Dew yn gwylio gêm gystadleuol yn y gwynt a’r glaw rhwng yr Hen Aur a’r Seintiau Newydd. Fel y gwyddoch mae’n siwr, yr ymwelwyr aeth ậ hi ac maen nhw bellach 7 pwynt yn glir o Airbus yn yr ail safle. Clywais ambell gefnogwr yn swnian eu bod yn diflasu gweld y Pencampwyr yn ennill y Cynghrair a hawlio prês UEFA - gan bod hynny yn ei dro’n cryfhau eu sefyllfa ar gyfer y tymhorau sydd i ddod hefyd. Tra mod i’n deall y safbwynt hwnnw – ‘rwyf yn credu ei bod yn bwysig bod un clwb yn gosod y safon i glybiau eraill geisio’i efelychu. Y cwestiwn mawr felly ydi beth all y tîmau eraill wneud er mwyn parhau’n gystadleuol? Efallai y gall clwb merched Glasgow gynnig ateb posib. Maen nhw’n ymarfer bedair gwaith yr wythnos a hynny’n gwbl wirfoddol heb sôn am chwarae gêm bob penwythnos. Byddai gennyf ddiddordeb mawr gweld beth fyddai’n digwydd i ganlyniadau y clybiau dewr hynny fyddai’n fodlon arbrofi fel hyn am gyfnod yn ein Cynghrair Cenedlaethol. Un peth ‘rwy’n sicr ohonno ydi’r ffaith bod gemau nos Wener yn fwy poblogaidd gyda chefnogwyr ein Cynghrair na phrynhawn Sadwrn. Dagrau pethau o safbwynt Caerfyrddin a Phort Talbot yw’r ffaith nad oes digon o glybiau o’r De yn Uwch Gynghrair Cymru-Corbett Sports i’w caniatau i chwarae gemau cyson ar nosweithiau Gwener. Er gwaetha’r gwynt a’r glaw digyfaddawd nos Wener – heidiodd ymhell dros 500 i Barc Waun Dew. Mae’n gyfrifoldeb ar bawb sy’n ymwneud gyda holl gynghreiriau Cymru ein bod yn cydweithio gyda’n gilydd er mwyn sicrhau bod esgyn a disgyn cyson rhwng y cynghreiriau perthnasol. Nid ydym yn gwasanaethu pêl-droed Cymru yn deilwng os na lwyddwn i wneud hyn. .
