We’ve had a lot going on this month in Chapter “G”. The chapter
meeting, the riding to deliver the Hot Potato to Chapter “J”. Kathy’s
Craft Night where they have been working on our Pirate’s Chest for the
Convention Chapter Competition. Then several of us took off for the
annual April Spring Mountain Trip (that we did in May this year), and oh
was that a lot of fun. Some great riding, good food, lot’s of new friends,
and bonding with some of the old ones (nope… there was no age
reference here). We have lot’s of beautiful pictures thanks to Karen, and
I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We even mastered a dirt
road, that Garmin and Base Camp both thought were paved, and you know what, it was almost as good,
but the Green Machine could have done with a little less dust, that is according to Melvin. But we got
through it, and had a great trip.
Then for Memorial Day, some road down to Beaufort for the parade, while others came later for the
ceremony at the Beaufort National Cemetery. Quite a humbling experience, and so many folks there to
pay there respects for our fallen hero’s. They gave so much, so we could have what we do, so one day a
year to pay respects is not too much.
Then we set up the MAD table at the Ashley River Car & Bike show. Some beautiful old cars and bikes,
and some that just look strange, but it brought out the crowd. We had some awesome water melon while
we sit around the tent, and had a great time.
And then we rode up to Clinton, SC for the plaque capture. We took some back roads until we got to
Columbia, then jumped on the Interstate and got on up there. Had some great fish at the restaurant, and a
good time for all. We even had nine bikes to go up, so it was a good ride for all. A nice back road trip
home, but we missed the Dairy Queen on the way back.
And then we have some great things planned for the upcoming months, and we hope we can find
something you like, and all of you will find the time to participate somehow. But I’m still looking for
inputs on things to do. Rides to take, places to plan to go to, or just things you think others may enjoy
doing. An email with a suggestion could go a long way, so feel free to drop us a line, and let us know.
So, why all this. Because it has been fun. I enjoy planning things, riding, going to eat, and just doing
things with friends. Some of you have become like family to me, especially since I have no family in the
local area. You do so much to help me, and to make me feel at home, and I in turn, want to do special
things for those who will let me.
And we have members doing acts of kindness, just because they can. Like Guy, who took the time to go
out and redo the walkway for Dan & Evelyn, after they commented about how it was
underwater after every rain. Guy decided he could fix this, so while they were gone
on a trip, went out and reworked the walk way. They loved it when they got back.
And all because of family ties. We can all take something from this, because we all
know someone who could use a hand. And we have people in our group that is
extremely talented, everything from painting, AC work, car repairs, working on
bikes, to walk ways, and so many other things. That is what I love about this
organization. And I thank each and every one of you for being so kind and special.
So, until next time, ride safe and often,
Mike Melton

Well, another month has slipped by and “The Green Machine” has been out of the garage,
riding around, up and down, and having a great time.
We started the month with our chapter gathering; rode to Myrtle Beach for
their meeting. Ron & Sissy joined us on the ride and we were met by Karen
and Craig in Myrtle Beach. We had a good visit at the Chapter “J”
gathering.
We took Chapter “J” a special prize, “The Hot Potato”. They were so
surprised and thrilled to receive it, and started making plans to get rid of
it... I’m sorry, I mean give it to another lucky chapter.
On May 14th a group of nine bikes and one motor home left for our annual
mountain trip. We stayed at nice new motel in the mountains. There were
extra special things to do; horse and wagon rides, our own saloon and
bank, and a covered
bridge and creek. They
also arranged a circus for us. Maybe it wasn’t just
for us, but it seemed like it.
We returned Sunday night, tired, but thankful for
the last four days of fun, good food, and building
new friendships.
Everyone had a
great time, and no
one seemed to
mind the few
sprinkles and one
down pour we had.
I hope everyone
gets a chance to go
with us in October.
We were lucky our Chapter Director was so adept at
pulling treasures out of his computer. Thanks so
much Mike for the great trip.
“The Green Machine” is now resting up for the next
adventure; hope to see everyone out there.
Ride safely and have a great time,
Melvin & Bertie Painther

I’m not sure what I want to talk about this month… First I think “Riding as a group”, then
maybe “Riding in hot weather” would be a good topic. Then maybe “Supporting your
chapter” by volunteering for some position that would help the chapter. What do these
subjects have to do with SAFTEY? Well, we all have
responsibilities for SAFTEY. A Road Captain has
responsibilities for the safety of the group, to make
sure that the group stays on time and safe. If the
group gets behind then the ride runs too long and
riders can tire, so keeping on time becomes
important. The Tail Rider has the safety of the group
in mind at all times, and helps to keep the group safe
by directing all lane changes.
So, as a group member, what is your responsibility?
When riding in a group, keeping up is one. We
cannot let the group get strung out because then we
get cars mixed in with the group. We do not know
what the cars will do, and they can become a threat to
our safety. We need to be gassed and ready to ride
when the ride leader calls for us to mount up. We also
need to drink plenty of water when it is hot, and if you
need to stop, let the group know, so a safe place can
be found. Others may need to stop too.
But more than anything else, we need to keep the
safety of your fellow riders in the group in the
forefront of our mind. Remember the person in front or behind you might not be as
experienced as you are and may not know
what to do in an emergency situation.
I would like every one who reads this to stop
for a moment and think about what you can
do to help your Chapter and fellow riders.
Then take action to make that happen.

Greetings, G-Force! The riding season is
upon us and your chapter team is hard at
work planning lots of fun activities for you to
participate in. I hope there is something for
everyone, but if there is an activity that you
would like us to coordinate, just call or
email one of us and we will try to make it
happen.
Chapter “G” sponsored a Motorist
Awareness booth during the car show at
Ashley River Baptist Church. We talked to
as many folks as possible, handed out
brochures about sharing the road. There
were over 700 people wandering through
all the cars and we were right by the road,
so we had great exposure. It was a beautiful
day and we had a lot of fun. I hope we can
pull together more of these events so we
safe for us, but to other motorists we appear
arrogant or … “dumb.” If we are to
convince the motoring public to “share the
road,” we need to be an example of
responsible riding … ALL THE TIME.
In June, we will be hosting a Frogmore Stew,
also known as the Low Country Boil. It will
be an opportunity for us to get together to
just visit, but we will also be offering some
Rider Ed seminars before we eat. It is an
opportunity for us all to be reminded on
some behaviors we may need to incorporate
into our riding habits.
Remember … every time we take our bikes
out there is a chance we might encounter a
motorist who is inattentive or driving in a
manner that
threatens our
riding safety. So
ride alert and ride
conspicuously. BE
THE EXAMPLE.
can get even more visibility.
One way y’all can support Motorist
Awareness is to ride the GWRRA way. That
is safely and responsibly. I know most of us
do that most of the time, but every now and
then we all do something that might be
considered “dumb.” Not only is that not

Meet to Eats
Palmetto Police Competition
We have two Meet to Eats scheduled for this
month. On the 11th, we will go to El
Jalapenos,1585 Central Ave, Summerville. We
have been here before, and everyone enjoyed
it. Then on the 25th we will go to DD Peckers
Wing Shack, 1660 Savannah Highway,
Charleston.
This is close to 5 Guys on
Savannah Hwy. Nice little place with a big
menu selection.
This year the Police Competition will be held
at the Convention center in North Charleston.
They will be practicing on 17 & 18 June, with
the competition going on the 19th & 20th of
June. These are motor cops, from all over the
eastern seaboard, going through their training
and demonstrating their skills. During this
competition, they are looking for volunteers to
be judges for the competition. You don’t have
to be a pro to be a judge, just observant. If
you are interesting in helping out, contact
Mike Melton at 843-847-1444 or at
[email protected].
Kathy’s Craft Night
Kathy's Craft night is scheduled for Friday
evening, 12 June 2015 at Kathy's house, at 7
Hobonny Lane, Charleston, SC 29407. This
month we will be finishing up the Chapter
Pirates Chest for the convention. We are
looking for GWRRA, Chapter “G” and other
memorabilia to put in or on the chest. If you
have something you would like to loan,
donate, or otherwise provide, you can bring it
on out, or see Mike Melton, MJ LeBlanc, or
Kathy Truluck and we will take care of it. So
come on out and join the fun at 7pm.
Monthly Plaque Capture
This months plaque capture will be on
Saturday, 27 June 2015 . It will take us to
Greenwood, SC this month, but the exact
location has not been announced. Once they
announce when they will eat and meet, we will
plan to meet at the Speedway Gas Station (the
old Hess), just off I-26 exit 199B (1518 N. Main
St, Summerville) early enough to have a nice
ride up If we have bad weather, we will go in
four wheels. This will be the last plaque
capture before the SC Convention, so we
would really like to take this one to the Rally.
So bring your friends, or whoever, but lets get
a good group and go for a ride. And
remember… come two, three or four wheels,
but come.
If you need more info, you feel free to contact
Kathy at [email protected] or by cell
phone at 843-509-9669.
