Welcome
Dear Friends,
s
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Angels by the Bay 2013. As Marin Center for Independent Living celebrates thirty-four years of service and commitment to Marin County’s older adults
and people with all types of disabilities, illnesses, and medical conditions, we recognize the deep need
that we fill within our community. We are proud of the work we do and the results we see.
Much of MCIL’s success is due, in part, to YOU – our benefactors, underwriters, and community partners. Through your continued generosity and support, we have the ability to serve our community in a
direct and meaningful way. We are humbled and honored by the strong support of our friends who recognize the extraordinary value in our work. We thank you for your generous spirit of giving this evening
and throughout the year.
Tonight it is fitting that we tip our hat to an angel in our midst – Joan Capurro. It is a great honor to
present Joan with the Mayor Albert J. Boro Excellence in Leadership Award. Joan lives and breathes
philanthropic work. She has personally touched countless organizations in our community. She motivates and encourages others to make “giving back” a part of their lives. Please join us in thanking Joan
for her years of compassionate service and commitment to our community.
We would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to our grand sponsors: Peter Paul of the Headlands Foundation, Greg Morgan of Wells Fargo, and Keith Woodcock and Bob Finn of Pacific Equity Partners. We are so truly grateful for your sponsorship of Angels by the Bay. You guys rock!
Special thanks to the many generous businesses and individuals who have donated in-kind support to
make this event possible. And thank you, of course, to our guests. Thank you all for believing in MCIL.
In closing, we would like to extend our profound gratitude to the incredible MCIL Auxiliary Board, the
Host Committee of Angels by the Bay. Through the efforts of these extraordinary women, Angels by
the Bay is a truly exceptional gala. Ladies, thank you for your endless gift of friendship and time.
With love and thanks,
Kathleen, Susan, and Eli

Silverado Resort and Spa Weekend
with Golf, Lunch and Much More!
for four
As Joan retires from her position as SVP Director of Community Relations with the Bank of Marin, it is fitting to recognize
all of those whom Joan has touched throughout our community. Volunteering over 500 hours a year, Joan’s empathy,
kindness, insight, drive and spirit motivates others to make
‘giving back’ part of their lives. Joan contributes her time, guidance, and knowledge to
dozens of local nonprofit boards.
Joan has led Bank of Marin’s community contribution efforts for 16 years. Using her
network of nonprofit affiliations she has connected and strengthened so many local organizations, and given sound advice on board leadership, fundraising, volunteering, donor
acquisition, and best practices. Honestly, her board affiliations and awards are simply
too numerous to list – it would take up our entire program! Joan is a living example of
leadership in our community.
Joan attributes her success, from page girl at age 19 at Wells Fargo to present, to
replicating others best qualities, respecting all people, taking advantage of training and
networking opportunities and learning the entire banking structure from the bottom up.
Joan honestly believes that the key to success in business is community involvement; her
commitment to helping others is true leadership in action. She thrives on helping others
advance in the workplace, volunteer, and better the community. Her selflessness and optimism inspire others to do the right thing.
I am certain that even though Joan is retiring we will still be seeing an awful lot of this
very influential woman….. and, we look forward to reading your memoirs!
Thank you, Joan for your years of dedication and leadership
We’ll toss you the keys to an RAB Mercedes Benz for the weekend as you sneak
away to a lovely private two bedroom, two bath condominium at the World Class
Silverado Resort and Spa.
Tee up on their award winning course with golf for four, including carts, followed by

Your adventure continues the next day with a One Hour Scenic Air Tour of the
alluring Napa Valley Wine Country. Upon your return from the Air Tour you will be
provided with an exceptional bottle of wine. Now that’s the way to fly!

Lot 12
Tee up on their award winning course with golf for four, including carts, followed by
lunch and a bottle of wine in the grill.
Your adventure continues the next day with a One Hour Scenic Air Tour of the
alluring Napa Valley Wine Country. Upon your return from the Air Tour you will be
provided with an exceptional bottle of wine. Now that’s the way to fly!
