The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department offers a variety of VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES throughout the
year. At this time, the Department is currently recruiting volunteers to work a number of positions which include:
Athletic Coaches - Youth Basketball (November - February)
Special Event Assistant - International Tennis Carnival (Mid-October)
Special Event Assistant - Music & Stories Under the Stars (Late October)
Special Event Assistant - Halloween Carnival (Late October)

Introduction to Kayaking for Teens
OFFERED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
Paddling technique, safety, and enjoyment are emphasized
in this 8 hour introduction recreational kayaking. Instruction is
designed to give participants a solid foundation in recreational
kayaking beginning with choosing the correct equipment and
moving to proper weld, entry and launch techniques; balance;
bracing; strokes; self-rescue techniques; assisted rescue techniques; and trip planning. There is plenty of time to observe
birds and wildlife while practicing various techniques. We will
break in the middle for lunch so bring a bag lunch with you.

With Barriskill Dance Theatre School
Experience the versatility of Barriskill Dance Theatre
School's performers as they delight audiences of all ages
offering selections from Ballet to Broadway to Hip-Hop!
Come spend the afternoon celebrating the joy of dance
and theatre. Barriskill Dance Theatre School in Durham,
founded in 2005 by Broadway veteran, Michael
Barriskill, offers a comprehensive dance and
musical theatre curriculum to children and adults.
Kidical Mass Bike Event
Join us for a magical bike ride on the streets of Carrboro!
We will have cool bike decorations and other neat giveaways (all riders are eligible). Trailers, tagalongs, etc, are
great for younger kids. Light healthy snacks will be provided
at the end of the ride. Families are encouraged to ride &
parents/guardians should accompany their children. A
limited number of helmets are available to children who
need them – contact the ReCYCLEry. Helmets required.

There is just something magical about moonbeams
and water and sharing the experience of looking
at the moon with someone special, even if that
someone special is just you. Participants arrive
early enough in the evening to practice paddling,
enjoy a beautiful sunset and adjust their eyes to
the night sky. As the moonlight gets brighter, we
will paddle around the lake to enjoy the night
sounds. Eventually, we will “raft-up” and lay back
to fully take in our surroundings.

Come explore the trails at the Historic Yates Mill Pond in Raleigh.
We will be walking all three trails Millpond, High Ridge and Creekside.
In addition, there will be time to explore the parks visitor center.
We will not be taking a tour of the mill this trip.
