SPACE MANPACK: ROBUST FIELD-READY SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS Satellite communications, earth observation, navigation and positioning and control stations indracompany.com MANPACK MANPACK: ROBUST FIELD-READY SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS Indra’s advanced technology provides security and mobility to satellite communications Introduction Nowadays two of the most important trends within the telecommunications users community are secure communications and mobility. Indra’s satellite communications remote terminal MANPACK is designed to meet both requirements by means of using advanced and proven technology. MANPACK The use of spread-spectrum allows both to use small antenna suitable for portable terminals, as well as provides a robust and secure modulation. Manpack and portable antenna SPACE Characteristics SHF-band Antenna type Cassegrain D=0.6 m (4 petals) Tx bandwidth 7.9-8.4 GHz Rx bandwidth 7.25-7.75 GHz Polarization Tx/Rx RHCP/LHCP (user configurable) Tx power (SSPA) Three available output powers: • 4 Watt • 10 Watt • 16 Watt EIRP • 36 dBW (4 Watt) • 39.7 dBW (10 Watt) • 41.2 dBW (16 Watt) G/T 8.5 dB/ºK Data rate Up to 2 Mbps Crypto equipment Serial interface included Max. prime power comsuption • 70 Watt DC (Tx 4 W) • 110 Watt DC (Tx 10 W) • 126 Watt DC (Tx 16 W) Power supply • Rechargable battery • DC 10 V to 30 V • Solar panel • BA-5590/2590 compatible • Optional additional battery box (for Tx 10 W and 16 W) Autonomy with batteries • 130 minutes (Tx 4 W, 1 battery) • 230 minutes (Tx 10 W, with additional battery box) • 195 minutes (Tx 16 W, with additional battery box) • 185 minutes (Rx only) • Unlimited when using solar panel Total weight • Starting 13 kg (HPA 4 W) Transport 1 or 2 backpack System overview MANPACK remote terminal The terminal can operate in point to point mode or in network mode. The network is a fully-automated Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) multistar and multibeam system that provides a very efficient use of the highly-valued space segment. The system provides communications to either fixed, portable or mobile remote terminals; one single network can handle all those types at the same time. Services available are voice, data (IP) and SMS-like messaging. The design of the remote communications terminal developed by Indra is built around the most advanced concept of efficient military and civilian satellite communications networks, and has been in operation for several years now. The Software-radio design concept of the modem of the MANPACK allows different waveforms to be selectable by the user without any change in hardware: QPSK Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC), Direct Sequence Spreading SCPC, Frequency Hoping SCPC, and CDMA. Other modems can be integrated into the terminal by request. • Batteries • Portable AC and DC universal battery charger • Solar panel • Rugged telephone handset • Rugged PDA or laptop • Compass • Protection cover • Backpacks • Digital camera • Asymmetrical and bidirectional communications up to 2 Mbps • Fully automated network, including DAMA, access control, accounting, terminal, services, QoS and group/priorities management, full-network SNMP monitoring and control, automatic power control… • X-band and Ku-band front-ends available, which allow the terminal to operate in military or civilian satellites in any theatre of operations • IP router-modem, optional 2 wire voice interface available • Customer-specific applications can be loaded on to the terminal upon request • Interface for data encryption (IP or linklayer) Elements and accessories Highlights • Full software-defined radio terminal: wave form definition by software configuration, SCPC, SCPC DVB-S2, DS-SCPC, FH-SCPC and CDMA (network mode), which allows the use of more appropriate wave form for each deployment • Modem ready for SOTM: STANAG 4485 and high-speed vehicles (up to 300 km/h) • Point-to-point and network managed modes, configurable through the front menu SPACE Specifications SCPC SPECIFICATION User data rates 64 kbps – 2048 kbps Modulation QPSK FEC (selectable) Convolutional 1/2 or 3/4 Reed-Solomon Performance Meets IESS308 Waveform based on IESS 308/309, STANAG 4486 SCPC (DVB-S2) SPECIFICATION User data rates 100 Kbps – 30 MSps Modulation QPSK, 8 PSK, 16 APSK FEC LDPC/BCH Performance CCM/VCM/ACM Waveform ESTI EN 3O2 307 DS-SCPC SPECIFICATION User data rates 12 kbps – 2048 kbps Equivalent spreading factor from 4 and 127 FEC (selectable) Convolutional BW 600 kHz – 10 MHz or 3/4+Reed-Solomon/Turbo codes 1/3,1/2, 2/3,3/4,7/8,(option) 1/ 2 FH-SCPC SPECIFICATION User data rates 8 kbps – 256 kbps Hopping rate 2000 hops/second FEC fixed (convolutional 1/2 + RS) SW jamming detector Yes Waveform based on STANAG 4606 CDMA SPECIFICATION (STANAG 4708) User data rates 8 kbps – 1522 kbps Spreading factor 31, 63, 127 Pilot FEC (fixed) Convolutional User FEC (selectable) Convolutional 1/2 or BW 500 kHz – 5 MHz 2 Reed-Solomon 1/ Environmental characteristics Operation temperature -20ºC < T < +50ºC Storage and transport temperature -20ºC < T < +60ºC Low pressure (air transportation) MIL-STD-810 F Operating humidity 100% MIL-STD-108 E SPACE 3/ 4 Turbo codes 1/2 (option) Reed-Solomon/Turbo codes1/3,1/2, 2/3,3/4,7/8,(option) C/Mar Egeo, 4 Polígono industrial, 1 28830 San Fernando de Henares Madrid (Spain) T + 34 91 627 30 00 F + 34 91 627 30 51 [email protected] indracompany.com Roc Boronat 133 08018 Barcelona (Spain) T + 34 93 463 00 00 F + 34 93 463 09 22 Indra reserves the right to modify these specifications without prior notice.
