needs are met. We ensure that Genuine Parts are
constantly available – not only for a short period,
but for many years. In fact, we will supply you with
mobility-critical parts up to 15 years after model
discontinuation.
Something that is no doubt a factor in the commercial
success of Volkswagen and Audi cars is for us an enormous challenge. The large variety of model and equipment versions has meant a veritable explosion in our
parts inventory. By 2010, this inventory is expected
to include as many as 450,000 different parts – which
represents a three-fold expansion since 1995.

The only way to process the millions of orders
received according to customer requirements is
through the use of a highly modern storage facility.
Originally constructed in 1994 and expanded in
2002, 2005 and 2008, the Genuine Parts Center
(OTC) is the largest storage facility of its kind in
Europe. Its total floor space of 414,700 sq m (4.46
million sq ft) is the equivalent of 64 football fields.
A storage space of this scale is a key factor in ensuring the high quality of our delivery services.

The presence of electronic parts is rapidly increasing
as more and more electronic control units (ECU) are
being integrated into every Volkswagen and Audi vehicle. The ECUs assist, for example, engines, transmissions, airbags, and power-window motors.

We’ve built a distribution network that spans the
globe so that our customers remain mobile at all
times wherever they are. The point of initial departure for all deliveries is the Central Depot in Kassel
with its affiliated storage facilities. From here, our
Genuine Parts reach individual dealerships via
importers overseas and the seven regional depots
in Germany.

In addition to the supply of Genuine Parts, the dealer
network also benefits the dealerships with a comprehensive range of support services whose chief
aim is to ensure a high quality of work in the trade’s
Genuine Parts business, guaranteeing customer

Of the 400,000 items currently included in our overall range of parts, between 60,000 and 100,000 of
them are kept on hand by importers and the regional
depots in Germany. Genuine Parts are delivered by
two methods: automatic supply and special order.
Automatic supply is managed by our AutoPart
system, which monitors each dealer’s Genuine Parts
inventory and resupplies it automatically. Any parts
that are additionally required can be quickly and

of old parts.
Volkswagen’s parts exchange program was first
established over sixty years ago, laying the foundation of what is still the most comprehensive parts
recovery program in automotive history. Since 1947,
7.66 million engines, over 2.5 million transmissions
and 68 million components and other parts have
been reconditioned. In fact, you could build 51 Eiffel
Towers with the steel that has been conserved through
the program’s reconditioning of engines alone.

A series of crash tests by the AZT (Allianz Center
for Technology) has shown that this protection remains, even when worse comes to worst. The tests
were designed to investigate whether vehicles repaired with Genuine Parts demonstrated the same
