Oh my goodness ... Well, let’s get this month started out right! The first day of May is The National Day of Prayer. If you would like to join me in the Theater at 11:30 a.m., we can say some prayers together for our country and any other things dear to our hearts. The students from Saint Peter’s will be here in the morning to sing for you and maybe even hand out May Day baskets! On Friday, the 2nd, at 11:30 a.m., the Lunch Bunch will finally be going to Auntie Mae’s Cafe. On Wednesday, the 7th, at 11 a.m., we will be honoring the fabulous mothers here at RLC with our annual “Mother/Daughter Tea Party.” This year we will have petit fours, cookies and tea sandwiches! Be sure you have signed you and your daughters up if you will be attending. The Wichita Broadway Singers will be performing for us on Friday, the 9th, at 6:30 p.m. (They do not get paid — only take donations.) I hope you get to enjoy this program. But get to bed early that evening because Rosemary Lewis will be having her Birthday Party the next day (the 10th) starting at 1 p.m., and it’s sure to be a blast! The next day is Mother’s Day, and Michelle’s piano students will be having their recital at 2:30 p.m. Mike and Michelle will be performing for our Wine and Dine this month on the 13th at 4:30 p.m. in the Dining Room. Wes and Jessie Brown are a lovely couple. We are so glad they came to live here! Nelva and Delpha having a blast together at Happy Hour wearing their scarves for Scarves and/or Tie Friday Jo Pumroy and Beverly Richerson enjoying Happy Hour (Continued on back) MAY 2014 Due to Resident preference, our Activities Schedule is subject to change. There will be many health care vendors with information about their services. Then at the end of the fair, I will be drawing a name at each table for a resident to receive a lovely gift basket provided by each company. So come down and learn a little and maybe even win! Monday, May 26, is Memorial Day, and once again our American Legion Post #424 will be presenting a program to remember our American heroes. Please join us in the Theater at 3 p.m. On Thursday, the 29th, at 2:30 p.m., Interim will have their Education Hour — the subject will be “Vision.” So, have a wonderful, blessed month of May! Oh wait ... I feel like I’m forgetting something ... was there something else going on this month? Oh well, I’ll think of it! Emily and Rowena are kind of mixed up ... adorable ladies! WOW! Look at those hats! Women are at a higher risk, but men can get osteoporosis, too. Bones are living tissue that grows and strengthens from the moment we are born through young adulthood. Bone mass is then maintained by a process in which old bone is broken down and new bone is created. As we age, the rate of bone formation slows. Too much bone mass loss results in osteoporosis, literally “porous bone.” Osteoporosis is sometimes called a “silent disease” because there are usually no symptoms until a bone fractures. People with osteoporosis can get a broken bone from a minor strain, bump or fall. Any bone can be affected, but injuries usually occur in the hip, spine or wrist. The disease can also cause a loss of height, a stooped spine and back pain. All adults should engage in habits that fight osteoporosis. A nutritious diet with proper amounts of calcium and vitamin D is key, as is weight-bearing activity such as walking, jogging, tennis and dancing. Fall prevention is also important. It is recommended that women 65 or older be screened for osteoporosis by having a bone density test.
