Leicester Comedy Festival in February is always one of the highlights of
the city’s cultural calendar and this February we have a glorious line-up of
Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack, Rhod Gilbert, Stewart Lee, The Ukulele Orchestra
of Great Britain and Richard O’Brien’s outrageous musical, Rocky Horror
Show. But that is not all the comedy we have coming up - Grumpy Old
Women, The Chuckle Brothers (twice!), Stephen K Amos, Mark Watson,
Dave Gorman, Dara O Briain and Armstrong and Miller paying us a visit.
If you’re drawn to the darker side of things, why not join us for Circus of
Horrors, Derren Brown or Most Haunted Live.
Strictly Come Dancing continues to keep the nation enthralled every
weekend - and we’re very excited to be hosting Strictly Come Dancing The Professionals featuring ten of the renowned dancers from the smashhit series. Throw in a special guest or two and you’re guaranteed a stunning
and spellbinding couple of hours.
Music at dmh is, as always, eclectic - with Peter Andre, Welsh rockers
Lost Prophets, Pasion De Buena Vista, Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting
the Philharmonia Orchestra, Joan Armatrading, Specials founder Jerry
Dammers, Bjorn Again, African Soul Rebels, and twice Grammy nominated
guitarist Tommy Emmanuel just some of the highlights. Ballet fans are well
catered for, with the acclaimed Russian State Ballet of Siberia bringing
Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty to us in the spring.
Don’t forget, De Montfort Hall tickets and gift vouchers make wonderful
presents...
We hope to welcome you here again soon!

Ojos de Brujo (or ‘Wizard Eyes’ in English) are a nine-piece band from
Barcelona who play a mixture of hip hop and flamenco. A strikingly
original band, they reflect Spanish and gyspy roots and their live shows
have become the stuff of legends.
“Driven relentlessly by frenetic percussion this is music that can’t fail
to move you; live, the impressive presence of the dramatically coiffed
Marina and her large band of musicians, video projections, a whirling
light show and a beatboxer/flamenco dancer face-off make for an
evening of passion and spectacle.” Metro
Support comes from La Troba Kung Fu. At the leading edge of the
remarkable musical fusion that continues to emerge from the barrios of
Barcelona, they are led by singer and accordionist Joan Garriga. Heavily
influenced by cumbia and rumba catalana, seasoned by rock and reggae,
they deliver an impassioned and electrifying live show.

Traditional in format, Mozart’s Third
Violin Concerto follows the convention
of the orchestra playing accompanist
to the solo violin. Although clearly
influenced by his travels through
Italy, the finale contains the lively
Hungarian folk-tune known as the
‘Strasbourger’. Mahler’s later works
were often associated with the idea of
farewell, an idea that was intensified
after the posthumous première of his
Ninth Symphony. The chaotic waltzes
and dances of the earlier movements
die out to make way for a beautiful
final adagio.

”not to miss” annual traditions of the

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of all-singing, allstrumming ukulele players (the clue is in the name), using instruments
bought with loose change, which holds that all genres of music are
available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the ukulele.
A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a funny, virtuosic, twanging,
awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock-n-roll and melodious light
entertainment featuring only the “bonsai guitar” and a menagerie of
voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies.
The Ukulele Orchestra started as a bit of fun in 1985. The first gig,
intended as a one-off, was an instant sell out. Since then, the Orchestra
has given thousands of concerts, TV and radio appearances all over the
world including the BBC (UK) and 3Sat (Germany).

Writer, director and comedian, Stewart Lee returns to the live circuit
with a new show which begins in a High Street coffee chain and ends in
a pear cider which is 100 per cent disappointment.
Expect some punchy stuff near the top; inexplicable hostility towards
relatively innocuous figures; silences and repetition; sudden and/or

a quasi-serious bit at the end. This tour follows his acclaimed BBC TV

African Soul Rebels 2010
Tue 2 March 7.30pm
Tickets £15
The sixth African Soul Rebels tour brings together some of the
continent’s most spectacular performers.
The Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou was one of the greatest
African bands of the 70s. Based in Benin, they mixed funk and Afrobeat
with the bewitching rhythms of their native Voudoun tradition.
The Kalahari Surfers formed in South Africa in 1982 and their
energising mixture of rhythm and outspoken social commentary
promptly resulted in the banning of their first three albums under
the apartheid regime. They have had projects with Brendan Jury and
Massive Attack, and a longer term collaboration with rebel Sowetan
poet Lesego Rampolokeng, who appears tonight.
Oumou Sangare’s outstanding CD releases on World Circuit – including
the latest Seya (Joy) - have gained her a great reputation over the
years, but her live shows are even better, driven by her majestic
presence and spellbinding voice. A huge force for women’s rights and
economic development in her native Mali, Oumou and her supertight band bring an irrepressible energy and joie de vivre to their
performances.

Following on the huge success of The Asylum, The Circus of Horrors
has had a major revamp and is back rocking and shocking with a
brand new show The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muerto - A Mexican
X’Travaganza). Set in Mexico during the early 1900s, the cast of
chaosmongers transport the body of their doyen Dr Haze to a remote
area of Mexico. In a former burial ground of Aztec Warriors, they join
in the local inhabitants Day of the Dead rituals to try and revive their
esteemed leader - all of course, with disastrous consequences.
The action happens amid a backdrop of an Aztec Temple, Witchdoctors, voodoo acrobats, pickled people, bendy bodies, demon dwarfs,
and flying vampires erupting, chained, from a tank of blood to perform
their amazing blood-curdling stunts.
Please note - this show is not suitable for for children under 12 and

Bar Hours
Bars open one hour before show start time and close
11pm or 30 minutes after show end time, whichever is
later. Please note that some private hire shows do not
request bar service. We reserve the right to modify bar
closing times for late night events or at times of low after
show patronage. Please ask our friendly bar staff on the
night for that evening’s performance bar opening times.
Interval Drinks
Beat the rush - order and pay for your interval drinks at
the bar before the start of most shows.
Drinks in the Auditorium
Depending on the show’s format you may or may not be
able to bring drinks into the auditorium of De Montfort
Hall. You are welcome to take your drinks into the ground
floor only of the auditorium for dance floor or cabaret
formats, as well as major festivals. However, they must
be decanted into plastic cups. For standing gigs, only
plastic bottles with their tops removed will be allowed.
For seated shows, alcoholic, open top, or hot drinks are
not permitted, although cartons and plastic bottled water
are allowed. Alcoholic beverages are never permitted in
the balcony area.
Proof of Age
If you are fortunate enough to look under 21, we
may ask you to prove you are 18 or over. We accept
the following: passport, photo driving licence or
government ‘prove it’ card.
Entertaining
Whether you are organising a party for friends, family
or colleagues, we have rooms which can be hired for
a variety of private functions and dinners. For more
information on hires contact Pete Mitchell on 0116 233
3114, and for catering call Paul Oliver on 0116 254 1225.
Advertising in De Montfort Hall’s brochure
If you would like to advertise in the next edition of
this brochure please contact Emma Dezelu on 0116 233

information pack.
Seating Plan
This seating plan gives a general
overview of the main auditorium in
a standard tiered seating format.
Due to the great variety of events
we put on at the hall we have other
formats that we use such as standing,
dance floor (with limited table
spaces) and flat floor seating. Drinks
can be taken in downstairs for the
dance floor format only. Even the
tiered format shown here can change.
For example, for musicals the front
row will normally be row F.
We hope the image will assist you
when choosing your seats, but would
recommend that you check with Box
Office staff exactly which format is
being used for any given event before
purchasing your tickets.
Wheelchair places
Wheelchair spaces are available in the auditorium and their position for
each show depends on the set-up of the performance. Please contact
the Box Office at dmh on 0116 233 3111 to book a wheelchair space.
The information contained in this brochure is correct at the time of going to print. Late bookings which miss the
brochure’s copy deadline will be advertised in the local press, on www.demontforthall.co.uk and via our email
lists (sign up on our website). De Montfort Hall reserves the right to alter concessions and prices at any time. Only
one discount can be used at per transaction. As with all live events, named performers are subject to availability as
unforeseen circumstances may occur.
