High profile padre alberto cutie
Hi h Profile Padre AIberto By Jennifer White Photographed by Zoltan Padre Alberto Cutie is a name that is well known throughout the Hispanic community. As the General Director of Pax Catholic Communications, and the voice of Radio Paz, he is very quickly gaining notoriety among other communities as well. While Padre Alberto conducts a Spiritual Breakfast, mass, and rosary on a daily basis, he also hosts "Hablando Claro con el Padre Alberto" (Straight Talk with Father Alberto) on EWTN Espafiol, and writes a daily newspaper column, "Consejos de Amigo" (Advice from a Friend), which is published in El uevo Herald and several other Spanish-language newspapers. This is, of course, in addition to preaching at St. Francis de Sales in South Beach. "It was God's idea," he replies when asked why he began using the media as a means to connect with people. "I had no say in the matter!" Three years after he finished his time at the seminary, Padre Alberto began working at the Telemundo network, and then transitioned to EWTN, where he currently works. He suddenly realized what a positive tool the media could be for reaching an even wider group of people than just the church. He is quick, however, to credit the significance of church priests, despite the discovery of media. "I realized that you reach so many more people through media compared to sitting in your parish or standing at your pulpit and talking to people. That's very valuable; don't get me wrong. Whether you're a rabbi or a priest or a minister, it doesn't matter; you reach people and you affect their lives in a positive way, but using the media is a way to do it in a much broader sense," he explains. Despite the multitude of venues through which Padre Alberto reaches people, he has recently added another: literature. His first book, Real Life, Real Love: 7 Paths to a Stronger, Lasting Relationship, was published in both English and Spanish, and is a culmination of thousands of columns he has written and emails he has received from people seeking advice on a wide range of issues. When approached with the idea to write a book, Padre Alberto felt that a good topic would be the most common seven dilemmas that he deals with during his interaction with the public. However, after realizing that 80% of questions he {receives through e-mails and letters had to do specifically with 152 SOCIAL AFFAIRS relationship issues, he felt the topic was important enough to warrant encompassing an entire book. And he was right. Real Life, Real Love: 7 Paths to a Stronger, Lasting Relationship has become a novel of interest to a wide variety of people, from young adults looking for love, to widows looking to understand how to make sense of their loss. "The seven paths apply to anyone," he comments when reflecting on the wide popularity of the book. "It's not just about courtship, and it's not just about marriage and love; it talks about relationships in general." d~
