A slow start to the day with a few heavy heads after New Years Eve but Toms annual fundraiser was an absolute classic with the “character cutout boards”. The Event soon kicked into gear with some very clever designs that got lots of laughs & raised well over $500 for the Flying Doctor Service. Congrats to the artists, and the Country Times made great use of the photos. The winner being Gibbo with his Jailers stocks design & runner up was David and his Fairy. Master BBQ cooks Lyn & Ray kept the food coming & all of the snags Tom donated were sold out. Tom is to be thanked for his hard work & again received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Flying Doctor. He has hinted of “burnout” but we have got our fingers crossed some New Ideas might re-ignite the passion one more time. Well done Tom & his Helpers. 18th...Good Friday 21st...Easter Monday 25th...Anzac Day May 2014 2nd...Community BBQ 7th… Green Waste 11th… Mothers Day Next Issue June 2014 In this Issue PAGE 1 #Toms New Years Day # Australia Day PAGE 2 # Emergency Plan # Heart Rate # Trophy Winner # Recycle Shed PAGE3 # Opera at the Hall # Summer Rains # Boat Ramp Danger #YPLOG #Pelicans at Piney PAGE 4 # Boat Ramp Danger Continued # Revamp # Good Old days #Anzac Dawn Service # Committee Details AUSTRALIA DAY Cricket & Pie floaters with the raising of the flag saw another Gem of a Day, with Doug & Sharyon opening their doors to the townsfolk. It was a tough day on the bitumen but left handed Buddha (Bruce) taking to the bowlers & excelling in the field was voted Man of the Match. The old “one hand - one bounce” catching rule saw a quick turnover of Batsmen & Batsladies with no injuries this year ! Pie floaters & Lamingtons sorted out the players & it was called stumps to chill with a couple of quiet Ales. We ask you to update the information when necessary and be prepared with an emergency plan. For assistancePolice 131444 Ambulance 000 Bushfire Hotline 1300 362 361 HEART RATE Whilst on the subject of Heart Rates recently whilst I was sitting in the office at the Park I could hear this chirping when the battery in the Community Defibrillator expired and thanks to our resident St Johns Ambulance Commissioner Mr Ray Greig he was quick off the mark. Ray & his wife Lyn quickly purchased the expensive battery & installed it. They also have kindly donated it to the Community so we are all good to go if anyone is in need of a jumpstart. The Defibrillator has also been moved from the outside wall of the Park Office to just inside the foyer to the Mens Showers located on the southern side of the old school building. THE SHED As most of you may already know a Grant was approved by the Council for our New Recycling Shed at the rear of the existing Progress shed. A great initiative of Allen Tolfts should see the project well underway in the next couple of weeks. Lindsay Beer & John Germein started the ball rolling a couple of years ago with the massive job of removing the Pines & burning off the scrub as part of our Fire Prevention. Council has also done some hard yards with the site preparation & we thank them again. With joint funding from Progress Assoc. & YP Council & volunteers help; shed construction, concrete floor & recycling racks are becoming a reality. With major increases to Progress & Hall Insurances & Electricity charges it was obvious we needed to generate more income through our recycling to maintain our Community Services. Thanks to Andrew Clift for access to allow our earthworks & well done to Allen and his helpers. Only 10cent refundable cans & bottles in crates around town. Please place Wine bottles & all other recyclable material in Yellow lid bins & general rubbish in Red lid bins. Council preparing the Site for shed. BRAGGERS TROPHY Doug Smith took out the title with his Bonza K.G Whiting at 50cm. His name is now engraved on the Trophy located at the Pine Point Caravan Park Office. No doubt his bragging rights will be heard around the campfires. Good Luck Doug, we only wish there were a few more of the big ones around the waters. The challenge is on again & finishing at the publication of the December Newsletter. If you think you have a whiting candidate take it up to Gavin at the Caravan Park to measure & photograph, but remember it has to be caught in the waters around Piney/Blacky. Stated as a Burlesque Opera Stephanie explains the show is a mix of theatre, jazz, dance & opera, telling a story of a mans path to true love. Looks good sounds great! Steph who is from Black Point would like to thank all who helped out with making good use of the hall. YPLOG Yorke Peninsula Land Owners Group An information update session to continue the awareness of mining on the Peninsula was held at the Hall on Sunday 23rd February at 1pm. Many new points to consider were raised & the group is to be congratulated for their dedicated effort to secure & analize all the facts. This group needs our support to continue on our behalf. Volunteer assistance is needed to share the load & paperwork. Funding has been shared by our Local Farmers & Now they need donations to further their work. Remember that there are numerous unanswered issues with mining proposals and we need a watchdog. If you can help or need more information Contact Joy Wundersitz ph ; 0421 010 513 Stephanie (right) being interviewed for ABC Rural TV after her performance at the Adelaide Fringe. SUMMER RAINS Photos of the Pelicans at Piney Taken by 7 Year old Sophie Tolfts. Keep up the good photography Sophie. BOAT RAMP DANGER THE BIG WET– In 4 days 98mm had the rain water filling up tanks but was running down Beach Road & cutting out the sides of the concrete ramp. The YP Council were quick to respond & averted the danger of a boat or tractor tipping over the 1 metre cutting. There are concerns being raised about the damage being caused by tractors driving through the soft areas when launching & Retrieving . PLEASE STAY ON THE NATURAL HARD SAND LINE & AVOID PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE MUDDY SEAGRASS. This prevents sand erosion protecting the Native Sea Environment. The “NO PARKING” applies to the whole turning area at the top of the ramp. Common sense tells us all that turning & reversing boats requires a clear path of sight. The ramp is for all to share and we are fortunate to be able to park very close to it, compared with many other ramps. PLEASE PARK IN THE ALLOCATED ZONE, before there is a collision. We would prefer to avoid Council giving out Parking Fines. With the BIG WET came plenty of mice. Most households are catching 2 or 3 per day. Not yet a plague but keep setting them traps. Community mowing will begin early this year as the grasses have been quick growing as a result of the high rain. Watch out for the boys on the mowers. 1 metre cutting on both sides of the Boat Ramp Help the environment send your email address to [email protected] & have your newsletter emailed. Four concrete pipe ends have been placed as tables at the ramp & soon to be followed by more seating , thanks to the Council. Crab designs were painted on the sides to add some temporary colour. One dark & windy night two local ladies were spotted looking very guilty & disappeared into the dunes. Next Morning all the tables were cleverly adorned with more crab cutouts except they were in “Crows” colours. The “Port” fans were quick to the scene & routed out the culprits. They even had the distaste to write the power supporters names on the crows crabs, finishing with a ha-ha! chuckle as their graffiti signature. VERY FUNNY JAN & KAREN PORT POWER FANS CHECKING OUT THE GRAFFITI BOAT RAMP REVAMP As most of you are aware of by now the closure of the Black Point Boat Ramp until Easter has seen a large increase in the Boaties looking to launch at Piney. Most of the boats are too big & heavy for our tidal conditions & need to find other alternatives such as Port Vincent or Ardrossan. A note was placed in the Black Point Progress Newsletter to this effect but the message hasn’t got out. There has been casualties with busted props & wet car carpets……. Roll on Easter & Roll over trucks. This picture was captured by Gavin whilst down at Black Point Camp Ground. Thanks Another casuality for Black Point. ANOTHER OLDIE BUT A GOODIE Thanks to Fred (from the old Piney Church) this is an old postcard snap of Black Point around 1970.
