He just completed his third season alongside Ryan Lefebvre and Steve Physioc as a World Champion Kansas City Royals television color commentator on FOX Sports Kansas City. But before Rex commentated the game, he played it. For 21 years, he played it. From 1978 to 1999, Hudler played for 18 different teams, including a 1993 stint in Japan. In 774 career major league games, Hudler registered a .261 average, 56 home runs, 169 RBI, and earned the nickname “Wonder-Dog”. Before he made it to football but he was drafted and signed by the Yankees before he could. Rex was honored as the 2003, 2005, and 2007 Television Color Analyst by the Southern California Sports Broadcasters for his work on Angels broadcasts for KCAL and FOX Sports Net and he won an Emmy in 2004 for “Angels in the Infield”. And that’s not all, folks. Not even close. You know you’ve made it big when you are a video game voice! Rex is featured as the color commentator alongside Jon Miller on ESPN’s 2004 MLB video game, Sega’s MLB 2K3 video game, and the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 MLB “The Show” video game. (So cool!) Continued on Page 6 Corpor@te Link is a bi-monthly publication of Kansas Corporate Credit Union Kansas Corporate Credit Union The A’s to Your Q’s Counting Down to Same Day ACH In 176 days, give or take a day (or a week), Same Day ACH becomes effective - September 23rd, to be exact. Provided below are some Frequently Asked Questions (the FAQ’s) to address the expected changes within the coreCONNECT-ACH environment, as well as a list of industry resources should you want to know even more. Q1 | Is our credit union required to participate in Same Day ACH? As an RDFI, you are required to receive Same Day ACH. As an ODFI, you may choose to originate Same Day ACH, but are not required to do so. Q2 | How will Same Day ACH affect our incoming ACH files we receive in coreCONNECT? Currently, your ACH file is a “combined” file that is delivered in the early morning for posting. With Same Day ACH, there will be additional files - up to 4 more files per day - which will be delivered as individual files for posting. Some files may contain ACH entries that will have effective entry/settlement dates of the current day and you will need to post them and make funds available no later than the end of processing on the settlement date. Q3 | What time will these 5 files be available for posting? The Fed has set target distribution times, however, exact file delivery times are yet to be determined. We expect the approximate times for files to be - 5:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM (ACH Same Day Returns only), and 9:30 PM. (All times are stated in Central Time.) Q4 | Is there a way for the files to be delivered directly to my data processor/core system instead of our credit union staff downloading these individual files from coreCONNECT? Absolutely! If your credit union staff currently download the files from coreCONNECT-ACH, you can sign up for the FTP delivery method. This means the ACH files will automatically be sent securely to your core processing system for posting. In addition, the files are still made available to you within coreCONNECT. If interested in FTP delivery, please contact Alilia Yerxa, Operations Supervisor, at [email protected] to discuss. (But, please do it quickly -there is a July 2016 deadline for choosing this delivery method.) Continued on Page 4 Lori Domian, Compliance Cop Employee Spotlight Lori Domian is Kansas Corporate’s new Compliance Officer but she’s not new at all. Lori began her corporate credit union career at Missouri Corporate (MCCU) in 2001 as the Director of Member Services. This past July, Lori joined Kansas Corporate through the merger with MCCU but was still on the Operations side of things until late February when she was promoted to her new position. As Compliance Officer, Lori serves as the KCCU Bank Secrecy Act officer, develops and manages all details of the compliance management program, facilitates the Vendor Management Program and helps coordinate and conduct required annual risk assessments. She is also one of two Accredited ACH Professionals on staff. In her own words...I like to spend time with my husband! I very much enjoy spending time outside - gardening and doing yard work of any kind and I really love to mow my grass (almost acre yard) and not on a rider - push mower! (YOU GO GIRL! I added this.) I enjoy taking walks with my best 4 legged friend - Maxine. Also, enjoy reading good books, and watching cooking and home improvement shows! Favorite food - Mexican cuisine because it goes best with Margarita’s! (YUM. Another addition.) Great having you here, Lori! (Notice the plural?) Scoot out to Portland, OR, August 8-10th, or scurry over to Reston, VA, September 19-21, 2016 - either direction you head, you’ll end up attending the conference every single 2015 attendee said they would recommend others attend. CU Business Group’s conference provides attendees a unique experience jam packed with education, products and services, best practices, statistics, forecasts, and networking galore. All those folks that recommend the conference, rave about the networking opportunities being the MVP of the conference! Look for more information soon but go ahead and set your out of office you absolutely cannot miss this event! In Early February, the NCUA Board unanimously approved the MBL final rule, which significantly amends Regulation 723, Member Business Loans, and allows credit unions greater regulatory flexibility in business lending. (That’s good news.) CU Business Group advocated on behalf of credit unions for early implementation of the rule and performed a poll a few weeks after its approval to learn how credit unions were reacting to the changes. Of the 750 invited credit unions, most responded they expect minimal or no policy changes are in order under the revised MBL regulation. (That’s good news, too.) Should you need counsel on the rule or any ol’ business services question, seek out CU Business Group - 866.484.2876/www.cubg.org. “We applaud the new regulation allowing credit unions to set their own risk tolerances and credit practices. It’s interesting to see that even with fewer regulatory restrictions the majority of credit unions do not plan to drastically revise their business lending policies,” commented CUBG President/CEO Larry Middleman. “This shows that credit unions are focused on maintaining strong credit risk management parameters.” Have You Heard the One... Two Accomplished Guest Speakers Join Rex at the Podium An economist, a payments revolutionist and a sportscaster walk into the 2016 Kansas Corporate Annual Meeting... and completely enthrall and educate the audience! (This is the 2016 Annual Meeting speaking lineup not some random saloon joke, silly!) Scott Borger, Ph.D., Senior Economist/Office of the Chief Economist with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and Todd Mackey, VP-Payments System Research & Payments Strategies, with the KC Federal Reserve Bank, will grace the stage alongside Rex Hudler, at the 2016 Kansas Corporate Annual Meeting! Mr. Borger’s presentation will look at key trends in the U.S. economy including the regional impact on credit unions from the decline in oil prices and the slowdown in the global economy. Scott joined the Office of the Chief Economist at NCUA in 2012. He provides NCUA staff with economic analysis and builds quantitative models of risk in the credit union industry. Continued on Page 6 Page 3 Kansas Corporate Credit Union Same Day ACH (Continued from Page 2) Q5 | Can our credit union set up to receive individual ACH files before the September 23rd start date so we have everything established beforehand? Certainly! In fact, we recommend it. This will allow you to put processes in place before the change becomes effective. Keep in mind, these extra files may have different delivery times than the September 23rd implementation, though. Q6 | Can we originate same day debits and credits? Beginning September 23, 2016, an ODFI may originate CREDITS ONLY for same day settlement. This is something to consider if you are submitting “balanced” files that contain debits. Beginning September 15, 2017, an ODFI may originate debits AND credits for same day settlement. Q7 | Will there be changes to the origination time deadlines if we choose to originate Same Day ACH? We anticipate editing the frequency that files are exported to the Federal Reserve Bank. Those time frames will be shared with you in future communications. Q8 | Should I contact my core processing vendor to find out if they’re ready for Same Day ACH? Definitely! Core processors should be well aware of this change and making plans accordingly, however, you should contact your vendor now to ensure their readiness, discuss operational changes, and include the FTP method as part of your conversation. Have questions for Kansas Corporate? Reach out to Alilia Yerxa, Operations Supervisor, and Lyn Hollenbeck, VP-Operations, 800.721.2677 ext. 111 and ext. 113, respectively. (The information provided above is based on the time lines and changes communicated by industry experts, the Federal Reserve Bank, and our vendor, LendingTools.com. We will provide additional updates as the implementation date nears.) EPCOR, UMACHA & NACHA, Oh My! Many ACH associations, including EPCOR (epcor.org) and UMACHA (umacha.org) are providing educational opportunities to help financial institutions understand and prepare for the Same Day ACH environment. NACHA (nacha.org) provides a Resource Center for accessing the ACH rule details, fact sheets, and checklists for Same Day ACH implementation. Kansas Corporate helped keep soldiers nourished and hydrated during the week to be strong of body and spirit as they hiked that hill to deliver their credit union messages. Kansas Corporate sponsored the Montana Credit Union Network Luncheon, Wednesday afternoon, (see Circe Gleeson, Tom Boos, Donya Parrish and Tracie Kenyon - above left), the Nebraska Credit Union League Welcome Reception, Sunday evening, (see Scott Sullivan, Larry Eisenhauer, and the Tom photo bomb - above center), and the Heartland Credit Union Association Dinner, Tuesday evening, (see Larry again, Don Cohenour, Bob Thurman and Glen Scott - above right). We appreciate the opportunity to sponsor and support our league partners as they work with credit unions to better communities and lives! How Many Cooks in the Kitchen? February Board Meeting Not too many, to answer! Thirteen cooks, board members and KCCU staff alike, donned aprons to produce some of the finest apple crostatas ever seen (and tasted) at the February board meeting held at the KC Culinary Institute in Overland Park, KS. We did all the hard work (wink, wink) while the real chef merely prepared a delectable lunch. We baked, bonded, devoured, and meeting-ed! Good times!
