Anthony Feast. It will be held on September 25th.
Dancing to the tunes of Alan LaBella, a huge Italian meal,
raffles and fun. Tickets will be available soon.
We need teachers for our Faith Formation
Program. I can think of nothing more rewarding than
having the opportunity of sharing your faith with our
children. We will train you to be a teacher. Please come
forward and volunteer. We need you.

OFFERTORY COLLECTION
The one and only collection to be taken up at all Masses
this weekend will be for our Offertory. Our Offertory
Collection is very important as it helps us with our weekly

The second collection to be taken up at all Masses next
weekend will help our suffering brothers and sisters all
over the world with food and financial aid. Please be as

Masses last weekend. (A total of $4,200.00 is needed
each week in order for us to meet the many expenses).
A total of $1,754.21 was collected at the 2nd collection for

FAITH FORMATION 2015-2016
TEACHERS NEEDED
The Faith Formation Program is in need of teachers for
the upcoming year. We are looking for faith-filled people
to work with our incoming first, fourth and fifth graders.
Classes are held on Sunday mornings. Your time and
commitment to our youth is vital to the spiritual growth of
our young people and parish If the Holy Spirit inspires
you to this important role, please contact Father Kumar at

WHAT DO CATHOLICS BELIEVE?
I BELIEVE…
Here are some reflections on what Catholics believe as
expressed in the words of the Nicene Creed. Many of
these topics are discussed in depth in other handouts.
WE BELIEVE…
A child knows that the oven is hot by touch. The student
knows that water is made of hydrogen and oxygen through
scientific investigation. The most essential knowledge
however is acquired not through science or senses but only
by faith.
FOR EXAMPLE…
We cannot prove we are loved. Yet, the mere instant
required to say “I believe I am loved” will radically
change our lives.
So it is with faith in God. We cannot put God
under a microscope. As with love, the heart is our proof.
There is a deep hunger within each of us, a space that only
God can fill.
IN ONE GOD, THE FATHER, THE ALMIGHTY…
People don’t like things to be beyond their
comprehension, so people try to tie God down. This is
bound to lead to distortions that usually reflect their own
fears and anxieties. That’s why so many pictures of God
tend to come out as harsh. What God has reveled to us is
very different.
WE BELIEVE IN ONE LORD, JESUS CHRIST, THE
ONLY SON OF GOD…
When we wonder what God is like we find the answer in
Jesus. Jesus doesn’t just tell us about God he shows us
God. We know God through Jesus the Son of God. “If
you know me, you will know the Father also. From now
on you do know Him and have seen Him” (John 14:7).
BEGOTTEN, NOT MADE, ONE IN BEING WITH
THE FATHER…
These words usher us into the mystery of the Trinity. The
word begotten means that the Father and the Son are of the
same nature. When a couple begets a child, they beget
someone of the same nature as themselves. When people
make something, they make something different in nature
from themselves.
Saying the Son is begotten by the Father expresses our
conviction that the Son is equal to the Father “True God
from true God.”
“In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.”

THOUGHTS WHILE WALKING…
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more
than all we ask or imagine, according to his power
that is at work within us”. (Ephesians 3:20)
His Power at Work
God is able to do more than you could ever ask or
imagine! But notice, this verse says it’s according to
the power that is at work within you. How does
God’s power work within you? His power works in
you when you are walking in love. It is at work in
you when you choose to forgive those who have
wronged you. God’s power is at work in you when
you bow before Him with an open and humble heart.
He is at work in you when you are serving others and
putting their needs above your own.
Remember, God wants to move on your behalf. He
loves to bless you! Choose today to let God’s power
work in and through you by choosing to walk in
love!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for all Your blessings in
my life. I thank You for the blessings You bestow
upon me today. I ask You to work in my life today.
Come into my heart and show me how to walk in
your love. Come into my heart and show me how to
embody Your love, forgiveness, and care in my life
so that I may become an effective channel of Your
power. I ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

LIFE OF SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA
Anthony’s Last Days
During the last two years of his life Antony preached and
ministered tirelessly among the people of Padua. Exhausted
and in poor health he retired to the town of Camposampiero.
Even here, Anthony was sought out by many people who
sought his prayers, advice and confession. At the young age of
thirty-six, Anthony foresaw that his life was coming to a close.
The saint spent his last weeks in prayer and contemplation.
One day when it was time for the noonday meal, Anthony fell
quit ill and asked the friars to please take him by cart back to
Padua to bless the city one last time. The journey was arduous
and Anthony became increasingly more ill. The friars stopped
at the little town of Arcella near a Franciscan Friary and next to
a Poor Clare Monastery. It was here that Anthony received the
last sacraments and sang hymns to the Blessed Mother.
Finishing the hymn, Anthony raised his eyes to heaven and was
staring so intently that one of the friars asked him what he saw,
and Anthony replied, “I see my Lord.” After saying these
words, Anthony died shortly in peace. He was only thirty-six
years old.
The following year, Pope Gregory the IX declared
Anthony a Saint based on the numerous reports of miracles that
had occurred and based on the prayers to Anthony. Many years
later, when they were transferring the Saint’s remains to his
basilica in Padua, they found that while his body had
decomposed, his tongue and vocal cords and jaw had remained
incorrupt. Today, pilgrims by the millions stop into the Basilica
of St. Anthony in Padua to pray before the tomb of St.
Anthony. The area surrounding the tomb is filled with letters,
flowers and mementos from pilgrims who have seen their
prayers to the Lord through the intersessions of St. Anthony,
fulfilled.
Praying to St. Anthony, Finder of Lost Things
Praying to St Anthony to find lost articles is attributed to an
incident in the Saint’s own life. While teaching at the
university, St. Anthony owned a special psalm book that
contained notes and his own handwritten prayers. One day, a
novice who wanted to leave the Order, left and took with him
St. Anthony’s psalm book. Anthony prayed for the book’s
return most fervently. The novice, desiring to return to religious
life, returned to the university and returned St Anthony’s psalm
book. The book is now preserved and on display in a
Franciscan Friary in Bologna. And that is why people pray to
St. Anthony when something is lost!

John 6:1-15
Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed
him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the
sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down
with his disciples. The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was
coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough
food for them to eat?” He said this to test him, because he
himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him,
“Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough
for each of them to have a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew,
the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, “There is a boy here
who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are
these for so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people recline.”
Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men
reclined, about five thousand in number. Then Jesus took the
loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were
reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. When
they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the
fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” So they
collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with
fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than
they could eat. When the people saw the sign he had done,
they said,
“This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the
world.” Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and
carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the
mountain alone.
Questions about the Scriptures used during Mass
Do we read from the Bible at Mass?
Readings from Scripture are part of every Mass. At least two
readings, one always from the Gospels, (3 on Sundays and
solemnities) make up the Liturgy of the Word. In addition, a
psalm or canticle is sung.
These readings are typically read from a Lectionary, not a
Bible, though the Lectionary is taken from the Bible.
What's the difference between a Bible and a Lectionary?
A Lectionary is composed of the readings and the
responsorial psalm assigned for each Mass of the year
(Sundays, weekdays, and special occasions). The readings
are divided by the day or the theme (baptism, marriage,
vocations, etc.) rather than according to the books of the
Bible. Introductions and conclusions have been added to each
reading. Not all of the Bible is included in the Lectionary.
Individual readings in the Lectionary are called pericopes,
from a Greek word meaning a "section" or "cutting." Because
the Mass readings are only portions of a book or chapter,
introductory phrases, called incipits, are often added to begin
the Lectionary reading, for example, "In those days," "Jesus
said to his disciples," etc.
