Fuji Restaurant in Hillburn, NY. The legislators have been impressed in the past with the varied displays showing programs and services that member libraries provide their patrons. We are again asking for your help in presenting fabulous visual displays of how funding for libraries benefits the communities throughout the RCLS service area. Let your imagination run wild, put those artistic and collage skills to good use. Go through your photos and look for ones that show all ages having fun at your library. Have a photo of a county and/or state legislator presenting your library with funding? Make sure to include it. Have a model of future expansion or renovations that you could bring along? Please do so. If you would like to bring handouts to put on the tables, that is another option. Show legislators that libraries offer the public much more than they did 10 or 20 years ago. Displays can be on either poster board with an easel backing or inside a Lucite display holder. Make sure your library’s name and location are prominently noted on the display. If you will be attending the breakfast, please bring the display early that morning, but let Dan Hulse (ext. 245 or e-mail) know that you will do so. You will also be required to take the display with you when you leave that morning. If you or a representative will not be able to attend, please drop off the display at the System no later than Wednesday, September 16. If you have any questions, please contact Dan. Thank you and we look forward to seeing your displays! Register for this event electronically via the RCLS online calendar. This award, cosponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was created in 2005 to encourage and showcase the exemplary work of libraries serving populations under 25,000. What is Belgrade’s secret awardwinning sauce? With a robust volunteer base, they have reimagined library services and aggressively developed new outreach efforts to meet the community’s changing needs. The result is intense engagement and support from the community and an impact beyond Belgrade’s borders through leadership to small libraries throughout the state. Learn how to replicate and adapt Belgrade’s ambitious outreach efforts on a small-library budget. The Best Small Library in America 2015 webinar is hosted in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries and Library Journal, and will include an overview of the nomination process and details for next year’s award. Deadline for submitting a nomination is Wednesday, September 9. This free, 60-minute webinar takes place Tuesday, August 18 starting at 2 p.m. To register or for more information, visit the WebJunction website. 18 DMV Insert The insert shown below will be placed in registration renewals (and possibly license renewals at a later date) by the central New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office in Albany.
