A great little gesture
A
small gesture to offer moments of serenity to patients this is the idea of Giuseppe Ragusa, who donated a television Hospital “Basso Ragusa” di Militello.
The initiative is not sorry it to health professionals and even patients of the Department of
General Practice who said that so improved the comfort of the hospitality department.
The benefactor Militello believes it has made a striking gesture to deserve all this attention,
however, to relatives and allows patients to spend more cheerfully hours of hospitalization.
Happy the division director Dr. Rosario Cannizzo (the last on the right photo of Nico Ragusa) who wanted to personally thank the benefactor Militello.

ith the encyclical "Quas Primas", Papa Pio XI, the 11 December 1925
W
established the need for a party dedicated to Christ the King, to indicate
a special memory of Jesus Christ seen as king of the universe. It is inten-
ded to emphasize that the figure of Christ is for Catholics the Lord of history
and time. Often it attributed to the introduction of such festivities also a historical significance: in the age of totalitarianism affirm the kingship of Christ was
to make suggestions about the regimes of all time, from the people who claimed a personal adherence absolute.
In the ordinary form of the Roman Rite solemnity that coincides with the last Sunday of the liturgical year, making it in fact very particular, almost a point of reference; the following Sunday begins,
therefore, a new liturgical year.
What is the liturgical year? We could say that is the year of the Church and the faithful. It is the celebration of Jesus life carried out over one year divided into five "times".
The first time is to Advent: four weeks beginning with the first vespers of Sunday after the feast
of Christ the King and ending with vespers of 24 December, before Christmas. As the term
"advent", this is the period of preparation for Christmas, which has its climax in the week 17 to 24
December.
Advent comes just after the Christmas season, when we celebrate the birth of the Son of God,
the feast of the Holy Family (Sunday between Christmas and New Year), the Solemnity of Mary
Mother of God (January 1), Epiphany (the manifestation of God in the world, 6 January) and the
baptism of Jesus (the first Sunday after Epiphany).
After the Christmas season is the time Professor, divided into two periods: the first goes up to
Ash wednesday; the second part after Pentecost and ends on the Sunday dedicated to Christ
the King. I'm 34 weeks, during which he reflected on the mystery of Christ and of the journey
accompanied by his word.
Ash Wednesday begins Lent: they are the 40 days that precede and prepare the Passover, the
time of conversion and prayer. The Sundays of Lent are five; the sixth is Palm Sunday, which
begins Holy Week, the most important of the year, with Holy Thursday (the Last Supper and institution of the Eucharist) and the washing of the feet, and on Good Friday in which is not celebrated Mass, but he remembers the Passion and death of Jesus.
Finally, there is the Easter time: 50 days ranging from Easter Sunday (Resurrection of Christ) at
Pentecost (outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples). The liturgical year, the priests wear
robes of different colors, linked at the time of the year. The main colors are four: purple
(symbolizing penance, pain and sleep), white (symbol of purity and innocence), green (color of
hope and serenity) and red (the color of blood and fire, symbolizing the passion and sacrifice of
Jesus on the cross, but also the blood of martyrs and the fire of the Holy Spirit). This year the
feast of Christ the King has seen a succession of events rather important from the historical point
of view and from strong spiritual significance, both locally and diocesan.
The celebrations began on the Friday prior to the date of the feast with the now familiar opening
of the bronze doors of the Chapel of the Holy Saviour, which allowed all citizens to be able to
admire the precious and venerated effigy of Christ our Savior; followed by a solemn Eucharistic Prayer Vigil and participatory capped the event by inviting to meditation and prayer.
Doors open, traditionally held on the eve of the feast, this year has been brought
forward to coincide in the next day to a very special event that is affecting our
Diocese Caltagirone: in fact started the Bicentennial celebrations by the institution of the Diocese Caltagirone, and the clergy of the city along with many of the
faithful went to the cathedral to concelebrate with the Bishop. Calogero Peri. For
the occasion, strong and significant was the welcome presence of H. Em. Rev.ma
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and President of the Italian
Episcopal Conference who presided over the Eucharist.
On the Sunday of Christ the King also saw the unfolding of another historic event at the city level:
the participation of all the confraternities morning and Pious Unions that the Diocese gathered
in Militello at the "XX Diocesan Way" in the presence of the Bishop that he celebrated a Mass at
the Cathedral Church St. Nicholas-SS. Savior. This meeting, however, already held a few years
ago in our town, it has been repeated this year to honor and solemnize another event that affects
our local community, that is the anniversary of the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of the
Archconfraternity of the SS. Crucified at Calvary of Militello.
The day was rounded off by the Eucharistic celebration, followed by the closing ceremony of the
doors of the chapel of the patron saint, at the conclusion of the solemnity of Christ the King. Everything is framed and is part and on the eve of the opening of the "Jubilee extraordinary of
Mercy"(8 December) called by Papa Francesco has already significantly opened in advance
through the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Bangui during his pastoral visit in Africa.

io VII sending 12 September 1816 the bubble "Romanus Pontifex", would hear the request to raise Caltagirone a bishopric.
Since then, they include the municipalities of: Grammichele, Licodia Eubea, Militello, Mineo, Mirabella
Imbaccari, Palagonia, Raddusa, Ramacca, S. Michele di Ganzaria, S. Cone, Scordia and Vizzini. This decision responded to a real need for revision of the dioceses of the island unchanged from the time of the Normans.
The island in the first half of the nineteenth century in a few decades saw almost double the number of their
dioceses; such a deep change has no counterpart in any other part of Italy and perhaps - with regard to increases - even in Europe.
In 1817 he followed the erection of the Diocese of Nicosia and Piazza Armerina, in 1844 Acireale, Caltanissetta, Noto and Trapani.
If part of the Bourbons the decision meets the criteria of reformism absolutist mold century by the Holy See
the foundation of new dioceses was deemed necessary for the growing pastoral needs of the island and to
the difficulties repeatedly complained of by the bishops not to fulfill adequately and systematically to their
duties, especially the pastoral visit, because of the extent of their dioceses and internal roads at all easy.
The decision of Pio VII to erect Caltagirone to episcopal answered, therefore, by real pastoral needs of the
territories until then belonging to the diocese of Syracuse, is placed in the broader context of a pastoral renewal of the island, and seems to respond more to the requirements the Council of Trent that the parochialism and the claims of the prevalence of individual cities.
Presenting his report July 20, 1859, just a year after his appointment, Monsignor Luigi Natoli asserted that
the diocese of Caltagirone "although recently erection" contained "everything can desiderarsi in a wellordered Diocese": recognition of large carried out by its predecessors to set up and run the organization effectively and the diocesan pastoral.
And at the end of the nineteenth century Caltagirone, along with several of the new diocese, it was undoubtedly to be counted among the most active of the island.
In the past, no bishop was ordained in the diocese; March 20, 2010 the Cathedral Basilica hosted the episcopal ordination of HE Msgr. Calogero Peri.

CHART OF UNKNOWN ON RELIGIOUS CONGREGATIONS MILITELLO
T
he recent celebrations on the four centuries of life of the Brotherhood of the SS. Crucified at
Calvary offer the right to report an unpublished correspondence between the State Archives of
Catania, on the one hand, and the City of Militello (local and religious corporations), on the other,
which is preserved at the Municipal Historical Archives. It all begins with a request, dated 16 October
1936, made from the Archives of the Provincial State of Catania to the Podestà of Militello.
In it, the Conservative Matteo Gaudioso (already known for his studies of its reorganization of the Historical Archive of our center a few years earlier) asks "if there are in this community, both in the store
and in the public library, the archives of churches and religious corporations, or pensions, manuscripts of
customs or charter of the town itself, the ancient art guilds and religious brotherhoods".
The request, in the most typical ultimate character of the time, had to be dealt with "by 25 corr. Month",
also "respond to a similar request from the upper ministry" (not specified). The mayor, who at that time
was Placido Cirrone, he worked in order to give the expected answers, which still had to extend beyond
the required deadline, the interesting question is the brotherhoods that the director of the Library
"Angelo Majorana".
In the correspondence are, in fact, the minutes of the letters sent to the various fraternities, and the head
of the Popular Library "Angelo Majorana". And the latter, in the person of Prof. Giuseppe Musumeci-Ristagno, on October 24, 1936, wrote to the mayor who "among the ancient constitutions which
regulated in Militello much the City like the religious brotherhoods, principalissimo was that code of
laws inspired and ordered by the Marquis Francesco Branciforte, and executed by the jurist Vincenzo
Milana (1620) Constitutions, invitations, or municipal rights of Militello Val di Noto ".
He goes on to say that "some time ago in the Archives has way and time of start its investigations, and I
realized immediately ch'esse had to be difficult and long, as it was not ordered, the same store"; ending
finally with a hope and a suggestion: "I would be willing to resume the search for VS like Sun that provide that, if m was necessary material assistance to some half an hour a day, it would be me apprestato by a
clerk or at least by a usher.
As to research on habits etc. of brotherhoods, they will be able to start in a second time at the respective
churches. "In effect, the remaining documentation that constitutes the correspondence in question is
constituted by four short communications that the mayor received from the Congregation of the Purgatorio, the Congregation of the SS. Crucified at Calvary (two) and the Mother Church St. Nicholas - Holy Savior. Three of the four have known all attached a typewritten form which was prepared by
municipal offices, with the specific intent to do complete the spaces (especially left blank) by each institution, with the information required.
Leaving aside the covering letters signed by the individual representatives of religious bodies (the archpriest John Sciuto for the Mother Church, the Governor of the Congregation of the Purgatorio,
Joseph Murè; the Governor of the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross, Gulinello), we wish to highlight
the news that they provided to the Podestà and here are recopied, as such as they were written nearly 80
years ago. Obviously, we do not express the veracity and accuracy of the data in any historical reference.
It can happen, in fact, that by consulting the works of local historians, will incur any difference with what
today is published; nevertheless you do not want to have any claim to rebuttal or correction of other
claims, although the sources that show just come from individuals who had, as it were, in the hands of
the documents in question, and are more reliable.
This is not, unfortunately, in the correspondence, no response to the Powers by the Brotherhood of
agonizing at the Church of the Guardian or from that of the Blessed Sacrament in St. Mary of the
Star. The Brotherhood of St. Benedict is excluded simply because it was founded only in the second
half of the twentieth century, as well as that (whose recent foundation we learn from the site of the
Holy Saviour) of Our Lady of Sorrows at the Church of Our Lady of the Spasm. Is right, finally, to
point out, that even the Brotherhood of Purgatory has reached this year its first ... 400 years, although
(as we know) there has been no official celebration.

At Temple Theatre is Restart
I
t resumed Saturday, November 14 the theater season at the Teatro Temple with management Saitta for 7 events (one per month) will delight the audience with funny comedies full of sketches and jokes.
The company has proposed to complete the "The Swing" by Nino Martoglio. Opera in
two acts especially well articulated and well staged.
As always all good and applause at the end of the audience
amused.
The city administration in the person of Mayor Pippo Fucile
wanted to pay tribute to Salvo Saitta as it celebrated 60 years
of career giving a plaque for the important event.
For the occasion, a great help in terms of presentation was valuable intervention and professionalism of Alfonso Magno.

Don Philip was born 100 years ago
H
e remembered Sunday, November 29 at "his" parish the figure of Don Filippo Sinopoli, born November 21, 1915 and the
first pastor of St. Benedict.
Don Giuseppe Federico wanted to celebrate Mass and dedicate to this character and it happened to Ferdinando Sierna ead some
anecdotes of life in the parish with Don Philip.
At the end in the parish hall he was shown a video about the life of the priest containing a photo gallery of vigne es of life (by
Ferdinando Sierna), and some video (made by prof. Franco Medulla) assembled by Nico Ragusa.
We asked by the group "Pianeta Militello" a memory that binds us to the Father Sinopoli.
The following are the main memories:
Mariarosa Riggio: It was my professor of Religion ... A strong person and incisive in his o(en direct say ... With me always very
fatherly to Him I owe a thank you for being present at a difficult +me of my adolescence. May he rest in peace in the house of the
Father and the depositary its human failings as a man of faith and Fine Shepherd oratory of God.
Seby Caruso: Personally I have a vague memory of him, as he le( his earthly life when he was s+ll small, but I've seen in many
photos, including those of my bap+sm. He was to officiate the celebra+on of my bap+sm. I know him well that he was a histrionic,
always over the top but sincere man of great human force.
Giovanni Lagona L'allegro Pensatore : I was 5 years his altar boy, I always respect, on Sunday evening at the end of the Mass
when I delivered the tray of tenders were inevitable some coins for me. I spent Sunday a(ernoon in the rectory where he lived
her dad and sister for them was Giuvannuzzu. He became interested in sending me to the colony for 2 years in a row. Some+mes
she angered him Peppino Cape but a(er she passed everything.
Antonio Seria: Remember him with great fondness and respect our dear Pastor F. Sinopoli. A pioneer for the Church and the Community of St. Benedict. One of them is a memory that I carry within me, never told perhaps even to my children. I will try to be
brief hope .... In summary: Immediately a(er returning from Germany, we are in the mid-70s I found myself out of work, with a
family dependents. I went to church to pray for a moral support which I did not do o(en.
I found in the sacristy Don Sinopoli and told all my adventures lived in a foreign land, I'm not here to list ... at the end I asked Father I need help I am going to make a contest as I do, study day and night but many I say back in Germany, those are poli+cal
posts and useless to hope. He decided to do and with benevolent tone told me these words: "I will recommend not to be
afraid" !!! I replied Father really. He told me you. "You can be sure the person you ask, can not say no, a(er all you've told me and
lived.
Con+nuing ... I said ... Do you want to know who the person is? I said, as believed She, in return, "And 'our Lord." But you promise
me t'impegnerai at most and you will approach even closer to our Lord. (End of the story) I sincerely thank you once again for your
prayers that surely will did it because, had the desired effect, radically changing my life, but even more for the inner charge that
gave me that day, giving me a lesson in life everything is possible with God's help and that many +mes the miracles happen with
prayer, will power, but above all to give love to the next, even with a simple gesture a simple word. May our Lord rest his glory.
Mario Ferran : A priest of great virtue a man full of wisdom available to those who needed really knew who he was for be er or
for worse I met in person and I am not wrong to judge a person.
Rosa Maria Liggieri: I remember a very playful ... Basically it was my religion teacher, sixth grade sec+on D. ask him - Father is
true that we are descended from monkeys? - He gets up from the chair turns purple and me - YOU! ONLY you descend FROM
MONKEY - RIP.
Giovanni Lagona L'allegro Pensatore: Don Sinopoli was a great friend of Dr. Prophet. One day he had gone to give the last rites to
a dying man in the same room and met with Dr. Prophet who informed him that the next day would make a nice funeral. But unfortunately, said Don Sinopoli, tomorrow and New Year and do not celebrate funerals. I think I answered Dr. Prophet. He ordered
to drink a glass of water to the dying with sugar and feed at will. The dying man lived a few more days to Don Sinopoli giving the
opportunity to celebrate the funeral.
Rita Fucile: I in the period of the nuns a ended a wonderful person knew who was supposed to be authorita+ve for my family
was a special person and affec+onate had a great history in the period of war my father always told me that r.p.i.
Paolo Vasta: Don Sinopoli had charisma, he was a parish priest in one piece was indeed a playful evening I dressed as a priest and
I sat in the office of priests, he returned to the church from a game of cards, all thoughDul they see a priest siEng in the office to
voice high said: Excellence sorry arrival, the knowledge I said u the beast, and I did not recognize my answer; certainly he was blinded by playing cards in 1983.

aturday, November 14 at the Monaco establishment of Misterbianco it held the 15th edition of the National Award "Silver Eagle".
Organized by Carmen Arena, President of Etruscan Art and creator of the award, satisfied
by the large presence wanted to emphasize the value of this award is simply a recognition
that tends to appreciate in the world and in our country the values of 'existence and human dignity.
The city of Militello has had his moment prestigious where participated two illustrious fellow citizens.
The first Honorable Giovanni Burtone as rewarder and Master Silvana Fagone as awarded.
It just touched Honourable reward musician and visibly moved by the honor, he had nothing but praise for the beautiful musician career that has made and continues to make.
Even Silvana Fagone, pictured with Carmen Arena, was very excited about the recognition of a brilliant career leading daily along with many sacrifices. Recognition obtained after much research by
the Academy and views of curriculum that has seen our fellow citizens prevail
over other talented musicians.
The evening presented by Dr. Jolanda Scelfo and Augustine Palmieri, President
of Bachelor Medicine dell'UNICT, while the musical performances were entrusted
to the pianist Anna Maria Cali. Silvana thanked the parents and all family members daily to assist with the results that are coming slowly.
Other "fellow citizen" award among the twelve are Dr. Salvatore La Rosa, journalist and TV host who accepted the award for journalism. Other winners were: for
the lawyer Luca Andolina, for medicine Leo Rizzo, Entrepreneurship Alfio Daniele Attanasio, teaching Santo Mancuso, for trade Rossano Contessa for industriousness Angela Vecchio, for literature Valentina Orlando, research Rosa Palmeri, for social commitment Giuseppe Coco and career Luigi Bosco.

ilitello Europeans
hey took off at Eger in Hungary (24 November) the European Championships in
weightlifting Paralympic which will conclude the next 30 with the italians in pole
position for the podium. Head of Delegation of the Italian team was confirmed Catania
Salvatore Primo, Federal Councillor and responsible for activities Paralympics.
Salvatore Primo has been designated by the National President of FIPE, the Nyssa Antonio Urso, for the good work being done nationally and internationally as head of delegation of the expedition blue.
Blue athletes Martina Barbierato, European champion and World, closer to qualifying for
the next Paralympics in Rio 2016. Ludovico Forte, Matteo Cattini and fifteen Riccardo
Tescione.
"Thank you for showing your confidence in the federal president Antonino Urso and the
whole federal council Fipe - said Salvatore Primo- and a special thanks to the company
where I do my job as a nurse at the center Catanese of Medicine in Catania, that gives
me the ability to undertake this journey and supports me in all the trips made in the field
of national and intentional.

1954. Writer and essayist has
lived for a period in his life in
Militello through the work of
his father. Benedetto Rosario
Brancati fact has been repeatedly prefectural commissioner of the city of Militello
in the following years from 1922 to '23
from 1925 to '26 and from 1937 to '38.
These verses were written in the summer
of 1923, the poem "Autumn" is dedicated

ainter and engraver, born in Militello on October 12, 1945. His art called "caosmic" full of
shapes and colors expresses the philosophy of modern
man.

He has exhibited since 1969 in Rome throughout Italy many times crossing the borders (New York, Switzerland, Budapest, Paris and Malta), but the work
"Motherhood" (pictured right in the moment of delivery) given to John Paul II and exposed to the Vatican museums devoted definitively.

ur Militello, with hope that this Christmas may stop access to that form of
"encouragement" which is stretched due to those convinced of the contrary in the
last thirty years have helped so much, we wish you a Merry Christmas. Are these persons, absent of actions to change, petrified and worn ideas pierced, which continue to
beautify our city with nothing have good wishes, even by those corners of Militello waiting in vain.
