SOLUTIONS FOR SAFETY/WINDOW COVERING
SAFETY MONTH

October 2003 was designated National Window Covering Safety Month.
To promote pull cord safety in homes with young children, Comfortex
developed a comprehensive “Solutions for Safety” campaign to create
awareness and provide solutions for eliminating pull cord dangers. Based
on the phenomenal growth of cordless shade sales during this campaign
(a 23% increase), the campaign appears to have reached its audience.
These materials include the following: “A Guide to Window Covering
Safety” informational brochure, and showroom signage (including posters,
shade identifiers, door sticker). All materials feature the “Solutions for
Safety” logo. This logo was created for consumers to easily identify products that are child friendly. In addition to showroom materials, dealers
were provided with a promotional guide for National Window Covering
Safety Month, newspaper advertising (including a free standing newspaper insert) direct mailer templates, pre-produced public service announcement radio spot, and press releases.

EZ-EQ

Shades out of equalization are a common customer complaint for dealers.
Fixing this problem usually requires a dealer to visit a job site where valuable time is spent repairing shades to the homeowner’s satisfaction. The
EZ-EQ, or Easy Equalization process, allows the homeowner to fix the
shade in their home. How does it work? The homeowner grasps the center of bottom rail with both hands and gives the bottom rail a slight tug.
This fully engages the cord lock. The homeowner then positions the rail
as desired by pulling down on the side of the shade that is too high. EZEQ process also helps to speed up the fabrication process by 20% versus
standard fabrication methods. This method is used on Comfortex cellular
standard rectangular, Duofold (top down-bottom up) and Omni-Rise™
Continuous Cord Loop System shades. Comfortex shade builders appreciate this new method which helps to make their jobs easier.

area of expertise at a time (selling/technical), work with the products in
real, life-size windows, explore true-to-life selling scenarios. Over 1,180
dealers attended in 2003. Those who attended showed a 29% sales

WINDOW FASHIONS INSTITUTESM

As a member of the Window Fashions InstituteSM, dealers start earning
credits towards the Hunter Douglas Product and Performance Degree
by attending sponsored training programs and perform testing online.
Dealers are eligible for their degree after completing the five levels of
performance: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus. Dealers
receive one credit for every hour of training. A total of 66 credits/hours
of training are required for dealers to receive a degree. Established in
1998, there are now 3,910 dealer members.

WINDOW FASHIONS GALLERY®
eMARKETING CAMPAIGN
This targeted eMarketing campaign, the first national Window Fashions
Gallery® advertising campaign, was designed to generate consumer leads
from the Internet for Gallery dealers. The program included a free video
for consumers who visited a Gallery dealer Web site. Ads were placed on
Superpages.com and on search engines. Dealers were also provided with
tools to create customized materials to promote the offer in local advertising. The campaign resulted in 30,000 hits during fourth quarter 2003.
Due to its success, the program was extended through February 29,
2004.

The template for Window Fashions Gallery® dealers’ consumer Web sites
was completely redesigned in 2003. The new Web site template features
flash animation, sophisticated consumer-friendly music and images, as
well as a connection to the Hunter Douglas dealer locator. The Web site
includes Home Page, Our Products, Our Staff, Our Customers, Our
Promotions, Our Location, About Us and Contact US sections. Each dealer can customize his/her consumer site to give it a personal touch and
add specific store content, including current promotions and driving directions.

TRAINING PROGRAMS

Web site was reorganized for easier navigation and improved business
opportunities for Gallery dealers. It offers: Information about exclusive

management spreadsheets; “What’s New” button for a list of recent
changes to the site; link to archived Gallery newsletters and the weekly
Kiplinger Letter; videos of training sessions and Gallery TV commercial.
“Search” function to find information and online catalog to purchase
Gallery logo apparel and advertising specialties. Business Manager
section offers; link to training modules; advertisement monitor to track
the pathway of every visitor to a dealer his/her site; ability to view and
update leads information – and even email eCoupons to prospects and
ability to create customized advertising.

Hunter Douglas brings valuable industry information and classes to the
dealer with the newest educational program, SolutionsSM. In conjunction
with fabricator partners, Solutions offers classes on such diverse topics as
color & design, sales, marketing, new business-building technology and
Hunter Douglas products. Solutions programs are scheduled for this spring
in various locations throughout North America. Select sessions qualify for
Continuing Education Units for ASID, and attendees also earn credit for
the Window Fashions InstituteSM, a Hunter Douglas program that allows
customers to receive recognition for their educational efforts. In 2003, a
total of 3,919 dealers attended Solutions. Dealers who participated in
Solutions show a 30% increase in sales as opposed to an average sales
drop of 3% by those who do not participate.

This program trained and incented dealers to sell more proprietary “Ette”
products – Duette®, Luminette®, Silhouette® and Vignette® window coverings. Centerpiece of the initiative, “The Best is Y’ette to Come” dealer
training seminars highlighting these products and their profit potential.
The participant kit included: Corvette giveaway registration form, product
coupons, explained product brochures, motorization video, ad slicks,
ad certificate. Requirements to become an Ettesclusively Hunter Douglas
Dealer Select were outlined. Over 12,000 dealers were trained, with those
trained realizing an average increase in Ette product sales of 13.2%.
Dealers who did not participate in Ettesclusive training saw a sales
decrease of 6.8%.

window shade section of the new Designer Screen Shades offering, radiofrequency controlled hardwire motorization. Ideal for large or out-of-reach
shades, this allows for precision in raising and lowering shades and is
controlled by a wireless remote control or wireless stationary switch, both
available as either individual or group control. Housed inside the roller
tube, the motor is powered by a standard 110v electrical outlet, or in
