Adventure Camp at St. Andrew’s Summer Programs emphasizes the empowerment of the individual
as a member of a larger group, or community. Skills which relate directly to the concepts of teamwork
and leadership will be practiced using fun multidimensional exercises, by all campers and stressed by
instructors daily. Through the completion of a variety of ground, low ropes, and high ropes activities,
campers will learn to more effectively communicate with their peers, begin to understand the
importance of trust as it relates to community living, and begin to realize who they truly are as a person
by testing or coming to know their personal limits. Emphasis on the above skill set—the foundation of
basic teamwork skills—will continue during the Paintball portion of this camp (two half days per week).
Although all campers will be strongly encouraged to participate in all activities, they will not be forced to
do so—as the instructors of the camp firmly believe in the concept of Challenge by Choice.

LIfelong adventure Camp
ages 10 - 17, entering grades 6 - 12
August 1 - 5
9 am - 3 pm
$375 per week (includes lunch)
During this week, campers will be asked to challenge themselves mentally and physically while
enjoying Rhode Island’s great outdoors. Campers will be introduced to activities such as: rock climbing,
surfing, wind surfing, kayaking, and hiking, and will spend at least one day learning about and beginning
to master each one. Campers will be challenged to expand their personal comfort zones, but not forced
beyond them. Cooperative learning skills will be fostered as part of an essential, positive, group dynamic
during these individualistic activities.
• • •
paintball CAMP
ages 10 -17, entering grades 6 -12
July 18 - 22
9 am - 3 pm
$375 per week (includes lunch)
This camp will emphasize the positive aspects of the game
by teaching sportsmanship, team work, and effective
communication skills, while also improving individual activity-based skills. These skills will be practiced
daily on the playing field and their importance to the game, as well as in everyday life, will be stressed.
The “battles” enjoyed by campers will be naturally competitive, but lighthearted and fun by design – as
this camp is meant to be recreational and enjoyable to all who attend. As paintball is an active “sport”,
campers will benefit in many ways from their participation in intense physical activity on a daily basis.

3D Art
ages 8-12, entering grades 3-8
August 1 - 5
9 am - 3 pm
$285 per week (includes lunch)
Adornment of the body has been practiced in
every culture, dating as far back as 75,000 years
ago. Ancient jewelry was not only a beautiful
enhancement to a person’s appearance; it was
also a communication tool in society. Campers will
learn about the customs, rituals, and symbolism
behind jewelry as well as various historical styles
and techniques. You will then design and create
your own pieces of personal adornment.
August 8 - 12
9 am - 3 pm
$285 per week (includes lunch)
Learn to make art that reaches beyond the
flat canvas – art that stands on its own or
has moving parts. View work by artists
who worked innovatively with 3D materials
during the 20th century, such as Alexander
Calder’s kinetic sculptures, Louise Nevelson’s
assemblages, and Henry Moore’s abstract
monuments. In this class you will use materials
such as wire, fabric, paper, found objects, and
the forces of gravity and magnetism to make
your own sculptural discoveries.

Pack your suitcase – we’re going on a world trip!
After we bind our own passport books, we will
use them to document our unique experiences as
we learn about some of the ways different world
cultures have approached art making. A museum
field trip to see art from the Ancient Americas will
begin our journey. We will then learn about and
make our own Greek vessels, Moroccan mosaics,
Egyptian artifacts and African sculptures. We will
also design our own unique styles of currency and
decorative tapestries after seeing examples from
many points on the globe.

(9 am - 12 pm on Fri)
$260 per week (includes lunch) Girls Lacrosse is a rapidly growing sport in New England. We are excited to offer you another
opportunity to experience the great game of girls lacrosse!
The Rhode Island Riptide Lacrosse Camp was created with two objectives — The first is to introduce the
game to those who have never had the opportunity to play and the second is to prepare those with interest
for the increasingly competitive high school game. The staff is committed to pursuing these objectives in
a supportive, energetic environment. In this way, each player is provided the opportunity to have fun and
develop skills at her own pace. We invite you to try lacrosse for the first time and/or improve your skills. The
staff is comprised of local area coaches and experienced players, all of whom are dedicated to providing the
best summer experience for girls to learn lacrosse and realize their own potential.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Stick, mouthpiece, goggles, and water bottle. Lacrosse gloves recommended
for older groups. Space is limited to 65 players so reply early to reserve your spot! There is a $25
discount for each additional family member. Registration includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.

Sixth Annual Ocean State Boys Camp
ages 8-17, grades 3 - 12
July 11 - 15
9 am - 3 pm $350 per week (includes lunch) $325 per week (US Lacrosse members) Camp Directors Jeff Popham, Rory Whipple, Andrew Whipple, and experienced staff invite you to
play in our 6th annual camp. Like last year’s highly successful camp, the 2011 OSL Camp will be a
great experience for accomplished as well as beginning players. With the great game of lacrosse
evolving at a fast rate, we feel our camp will give you the tools to be successful on and off the field.
Our goal is to develop each camper into a faster, stronger, more confident and complete team player.
Our emphasis will be on:
• Motivating you to master the fundamentals such as passing, catching, cutting, scooping, and shooting
with both the strong and weak hand.
• Teaching you the advanced team play skills at each position such as attack, midfield, defense, and
goalie-to give you the undeniable edge! • Practicing special situations to prepare you for success at critical points in a game.
• Improving your strength, speed, and agility.
• Playing daily games, encouraging teamwork, and having fun!!
CAMPERS WILL RECEIVE: a lacrosse jersey, water bottle, afternoon snack, and special gift.
Space is limited so please sign up early! Apply a $25 discount to players who are U.S. Lacrosse
members. Also, there is a $25 discount for each additional family member. Need-based aid is also
available.
Here are comments from parents of players who played in past OSL Camps:
‘Your camp got top ranks from our family. It was fun for Christopher, he leaned a lot and it was all around
a great experience, thank you for helping him develop as a player and as a person.’
‘My three sons have attended a half dozen lacrosse camps. The Ocean State Lacrosse Camp did the
best job of combining fun and instruction – especially for grade school age.’
‘I had a great time; I thought that the camp was well organized and that all of the coaches really knew
what they were doing.’
