The Truth about PAIN-FREE Electrolysis

I have to dispel the myth about Electrolysis treatment…
You do NOT have to endure hours upon hours of painful Electrolysis treatment to be permanently hair-free.
Pain-free Electrolysis depends solely on the skill of the operator, including speed, technique, the client’s comfort level, and
trust.
It can be difficult to find a good professional; nevertheless, choosing an Electrologist is just like choosing a Physician, and
the more you know and trust your Doctor, the more comfortable you will be.

The term Electrolysis, simply means electro-epilation, but
the Electrologist uses three different methods or modalities
to rid you of hair.

That decision about which method to use on you comes out
of the Electrologist’s experience and is based on their
results they have seen in their career.
As a Licensed Electrologist for over 20 years, I have seen
it all, and worked on many difficult cases, such as:
(1) Hormonal imbalances such as PCOS (Polysistic Ovary
Syndrome) which causes "male-pattern" hair growth in
females.
Very stubborn/coarse hairs appearing on the chin, and
neck-sometimes on the chest coupled with acne.

This hair lies so low in the subcutaneous layer and requires
a significant amount of destruction to the lower 2/3 of the
follicle in order to destroy the dermal papilla requiring
more than a single insertion to complete the process.
(2) Transgender and Transitioning patients prior to SRS,
and the most delicate skin conditions like
(3) Rosacea- a skin condition that causes swelling, redness
and tender skin. I have successfully treated every client
with care but without pain.

How does PAIN-FREE Electrolysis work?

Electrolysis targets the lower portion of the hair follicle and damages the "Dermal Papilla" containing capillaries that
nourish the hair.
By properly inserting a probe down the full depth of the follicle where a reaction occurs - by either a chemical or heating
pattern or a combination of both - the blood supply is cut off, and the hair is released.
However, hair grows in cycles, so the Electrologist will put you on a necessary schedule in order to treat your hair at the
most optimum time while the hair is in an
active growth cycle.
The active cycle is when the professional can
insert a probe down to the lowest point and do
the most damage in the follicle.
It is at this point that the sensation of the
current is almost un-detectible and therefor
very comfortable.

For example, Galvanic (electrochemical)
treatment is NOT recommended for pregnant
women because of unknown risks to the fetus,
involving a negative and positive electrode.

In my practice I also use Multi-Needle
electrolysis which is strictly Galvanic which
utilizes 16 needles at the same time and is very
effective.
Still, all of this information will not matter if
the client doesn’t feel comfortable with the
Electrologist.
Trusting in your Electrologst is key to
establishing a mutually respectful relationship.
I know this sounds unrealistic, but an Electrolysis treatment can be so pleasant that one could actually relax enough to go to
sleep.
However it is possible and I have a long list of clientele who will gladly vouch for my approach.
Regardless of which body part I am treating, I guarantee that you will remain comfortable, relaxed and will ultimately be
hair-free.

Alana Dzurek is a Licensed Electrologist and former spa owner with more than 20 years’ experience in the field of

After graduating from the Berkowitz School of Electrolysis where she worked mainly on the Transgender population, she
moved to the Washington DC Metropolitan area and enrolled at the Baltimore International Skin Care Institute to pursue an
advanced program in Electrolysis.
Upon completion of her training, she obtained her license through the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
and worked alongside the founder of the Institute, Anne O'Brien.
She later founded her own spa/permanent hair removal practice and developed a
busy Electrolysis practice serving some of the most elite clients in Washington
DC, in addition to helping a loyal following of Transgender and transitioning
