Memorial Service
Police officers, fire fighters, sheriff’s
deputies, Oregon State Police and other
law enforcement members from
throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho,
Utah and California attended a memorial
service Sunday, April 26, for Coos
County Sheriff’s Deputy Gil Datan who
lost his life in an ATV accident while
patrolling a rural area southeast of Coos
Bay Monday, April 20. Deputy Datan
was a Forest Patrol Deputy. Escorted in
the air by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter,
the procession began near the Mill Casino/Hotel on Hwy. 101, proceeded
south into Coos Bay, west on Elrod by
the Coos Bay Fire Dept., 10th to Ocean
Blvd., Wallace St., Newmark, Oak St.
by the softball fields, to Virginia, Broadway south to 16th and then into a corridor of supporters towered by a giant
American flag hung from North Bend
Fire Dept. ladder trucks. The parking lot
at the high school overflowed early and
the streets were soon filled as the Celebration of Life for Coos County Sher-
iff’s Deputy Gil Datan took place in the
gymnasium.

Coos Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Gil Datan
was killed in an ATV accident in a rural
area between Green Acres and Sumner
Lane, south east of Coos Bay Monday
afternoon, April 20. According to a follow-up news release from District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, Deputy Datan
joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 after
serving as a law enforcement officer
with the Reedsport Police Dept., Confederated Tribal Police, North Bend Police Dept. and the Myrtle Pt. Police
Dept. beginning in March of 1996. He
is the first deputy sheriff killed while on
duty since the Sheriff’s Office lost Sgt.
Lisa Wampole in a vehicle accident back
in July of 1999. Datan was recently
assigned Timber Deputy after serving a
two-year stint as an assigned detective
with the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (SCINT). According to the
District Attorney, Deputy Datan was last

sent his girlfriend a cell phone text with
a photo between 2 and 3 p.m. He was
scheduled to go off shift at 4 p.m. When
he didn’t radio in that he was back in his
truck, the Sheriff’s Office assembled a
team of officers and an active search
began by 6 p.m. The U.S. Coast Guard
participated with an aerial search by
helicopter. Deputy Datan was found at
9:45 p.m. in rugged terrain about three
to five miles from where he had parked
his pickup truck. “It appears that while
Deputy Datan was attempting to navigate a steep embankment with the ATV
that the ATV rolled over and down the
embankment. Deputy Datan was thrown
from the ATV as it rolled. Unfortunately the ATV landed on its side on top
of Deputy Datan causing his death.” He
leaves behind his girlfriend and a teenage daughter from a previous marriage.

Governor's Commission on the Law
Enforcement Medal of Honor held an
emergency telephonic meeting to review
a request to present the Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice to the family of fallen
Coos County Sheriff's Deputy Gil Datan.
On Friday, April 24, 2015. R. Paul Fra-
sier the District Attorney for Coos
County issued the attached press releases
that provide insight into this event along
with a photo of the Deputy Gil Datan
who died in the line-of-duty on Monday
night patrolling Coos County. As you
will read in the press release, Deputy
Datan died while patrolling forest roads
in Coos County when his patrol vehicle,
an ATV, fell on top of him. The Commission will meet to evaluate this tragic
event to determine if Deputy Datan's
family should be presented with the
Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice. The criteria
for this award is as follows: Oregon
Revised Statute 176.267 - Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice. (1) The Law Enforcement Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice is established. Upon nomination by the Governor's Commission on the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor established
under ORS 176.262, the Governor or the
Governor's designee may award the
medal in the name of the state to the
family of a law enforcement officer who
has died while performing his or her
duties as a law enforcement officer or
who was killed because of his or her
employment as a law enforcement officer. (2) The medal shall be bronze and
consist of a police shield overlaid by a
sheriff's star with the seal of the State of
Oregon in the center and the words
"Law Enforcement Medal of Ultimate
Sacrifice" within the design. The medal
shall be suspended from a ring that is
attached to a gold ribbon with a blue
edge. The reverse side of the medal shall
be inscribed with the words "Awarded
by a grateful state for the ultimate sacrifice by a law enforcement family." [2011 c.434 §1] Background Information - The Law Enforcement Medal

Shutter Ck. Escapees Captured
An inmate who escaped April 26 from Shutter Creek Correctional
Institution (SCCI) in North Bend is now in custody in the Coos
County Jail. Law enforcement officials arrested Daniel Oliver Fullmer (left) on Monday morning at approximately 1:30 a.m. near Lakeside. Fullmer was one of two Oregon Department of Corrections
(DOC) inmates who escaped Sunday morning from SCCI in North
Bend. He entered DOC custody on Oct. 16, 2014, on one count of
unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and one count of possession of
methamphetamine out of Jackson County. His earliest release date
is March 22, 2016. The second inmate was also taken back into custody. Harlan Earl Brown (right) was apprehended Monday morning
at approximately 10:30 a.m. near Coos Bay. Brown entered DOC
custody on Aug. 8, 2014, on two counts of burglary in the second
degree and three counts of theft in the first degree out of Clackamas County. His earliest release date is Nov. 9, 2016.
A federal judge in Eugene has approved
warrants for the arrest of a 71-year old
preacher from Coquille after he failed to
show up for sentencing charges following a conviction that he and his wife
evaded $1.2 million in taxes. Ronald
and Dorothea Joling were scheduled to
be in court Wednesday morning, April
22, but the two failed to show up. They
were convicted last year of Conspiracy
to Defraud the Government. Ronald
Joling was also convicted of Tax Evasion and Filing False Returns. He
stopped paying income taxes in the early
1990s after concluding the tax laws do
not apply to him.
Meth Dealer gets two
years
Clifford Allen Robertson was sentenced
to twenty-four months in custody after a
twelve person jury found him guilty of
Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine
and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. The sentence stems from a SCINT
investigation in May 2014 lead by Deputy Detective Gil Datan. On May 31,
2014 law enforcement executed a search
warrant at 91299 Grinnell, Coos Bay
Oregon. At the residence were Fawna
Andrews, the defendant’s infant child,
and the defendant’s father. During this
time, Robertson arrived on scene and
directed law enforcement to his bedroom

where methamphetamine and methamphetamine paraphernalia accessible to
the toddler. During a search of Robertson room close to an ounce of methamphetamine was located with an approximate street value of $2700.

Datan conducted a comprehensive interview, during which Robertson admitted
he could purchase a pound of meth and
the methamphetamine was obtained in
California. Robertson also stated it was
his intention to deliver methamphetamine to specified individuals. After a
twelve person on April 17, 2015, the
defendant was found guilty of Unlawful
Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine,
and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Robertson was sentenced to the
Oregon Department of Corrections for
twenty-four months on the Unlawful
Delivery of Methamphetamine and thirty
days for Endangering the Welfare of a
Minor followed by thirty-six months

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 04-16-15, at about 10:18
PM, Coos County Deputies performed a
routine traffic stop on a vehicle in
Charleston area, and during the contact
discovered the vehicle to be stolen. The
vehicle had been reported stolen out of
Eugene on the morning of 04-1615, at
1000, a.m. The vehicle was a 1989 silver Honda Accord. After speaking to
the lawful owners of the vehicle, Deputies determined that operator of the vehicle; 29 year old Lacey J. Potts of Coos
Bay was unlawfully in possession of the
stolen vehicle. Ms. Potts was arrested
and transported to the Coos County jail
at 11:00 p.m. Ms Potts was charged
with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle,
Providing False Information to a Police
Officer and Driving While Suspended.

was located and arrested for Assault in
the Second Degree and Burglary in the
First Degree. Sederlin was transported
to the Coos County Jail where he was
booked on the charges of Assault II and
Burglary I.

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On April 17, 2015 at about
10:26 PM, Deputies from the Coos
County Sheriff’s Office responded to
Nesika County Park at 12924 Highway
241, east of Coos Bay for a report of a
man who was bleeding severely from his
head. Upon arrival Deputies learned that
33 year old Keith Smith, of Coos Bay
had been struck in the head with an axe
handle during an argument in the park.
Mr. Smith was transported from the
scene to Bay Area Hospital. The suspect
in this case was identified as Christopher
Ursynow. Ursynow had left the scene
prior to the arrival of Deputies. On
April 18, 2015 at about 11:30 AM Coos
County Sheriff’s Deputies received a
report that the suspect was back at Nesika Park and was leaving the park in a
vehicle. The vehicle was located by
police and 27 year old Christopher Ursynow of Coos Bay was taken into custody. Mr. Ursynow was charged with

received a report of an assault that had
just occurred at 70184 Lakewood Drive,
North Bend. It was reported the victim

lacerations on his arm during an argument with 22 year old Connor Sederlin
of Coos Bay. Mr. Sederlin is the exboyfriend of 18 year old Kelsey Johnson. It was reported that Sederlin had
left the scene. The victim, 25 year old
Taylor Heppner was transported to Bay
Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance,

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 4/22/15 at 0630
hours the Coos County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 92674
Cascade Lane, Coos Bay, Oregon to a disturbance. As a result
Deputies learned Tad D. Roane 27 YOA of Coos Bay had damaged
property belonging to his father and landlord. Deputies also
learned Mr. Roane had threatened his father’s life, 55 year old
Eugene Roane and held a knife to his throat. Tad Roane fled prior
to the Deputies arrival. At 1650 hours Tad Roane returned to the
residence and was taken into custody without incident. Tad Roane
was transported to the Coos County Jail and booked on the charge
of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing (DOM), and Criminal Mischief II. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Coos Bay Police
Department.

Prescription Fraud
Robbery
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On April 16, 2015,
at about midnight, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies and an officer
from the Myrtle Point Police Department were dispatched to 54307
Frontage Road, Myrtle Point, Oregon, a residence, which is about 4
miles north of Myrtle Point, off Hwy 42. The initial call was a report
of a dispute where and assault had occurred and one of the suspects
were reported to have a firearm. The initial report was that there
were multiple suspects and that they had left the area in a green Tahoe. The caller stated that there were two females and one male. The
vehicle was located and stopped by the Myrtle Point Police Department near mile post 20 in Myrtle Point. As a result of the investigation, it was learned that Charles “Codi” Lenhart had gone to the residence in order to unlawfully take a vehicle as collateral for a debt.
During the ensuing altercation, Lenhart was reported to have brandished a handgun in an attempt to further his goal. Prior to leaving,
Lenhart was reported to have slashed the tires to the jeep and break
out the back window while Trisha Littles and Jessica Toepfer stole a
radio controlled car out of the back of the Jeep. Toepfer further participated by assaulting Ms. Corn in the head when she came to help
Mr. Lenhart. Trisha Littles was arrested for Conspiracy to Commit
Robbery I and a Probation Violation. Jessica Toepfer was arrested
for Assault IV and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery I. Charles Lenhart
was arrested for Robbery I, Theft II, Criminal Mischief II, Menacing
with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Trespass II. All
parties were transported to the Coos County Jail. The green Tahoe

5th, 2015, a two week long prescription
fraud investigation involving a former
North Bend Medical Center employee
culminated in her arrest. The investigation had revealed numerous instances of
prescription fraud over the past several
years. The investigation is continuing,
with possible additional charges to follow. 39 year old Coos Bay resident

Seven DUII arrests made
during the month of
March in Coos Bay
News release from CBPD. In March the
Coos Bay Police Department arrested 7
drunk drivers. 1 of those drunk drivers
was arrested by an officer that was
working overtime funded through a
grant issued by Oregon Impact. The
Southern Oregon Coast DUII Taskforce
will continue to deploy additional police
officers during the month of April with
these same grant funds. The Southern
Oregon Coast DUII Taskforce is comprised of officers from the Coos Bay
Police Department, Coquille Police Department, Coos County Sheriff’s Office,
Oregon State Police, and funded by a
grant provided by Oregon Impact.

Moore was sentenced to 400 months in
prison Tuesday, March 31, following his
second conviction on six-counts of Rape
in the First Degree involving a former
underage step-daughter. On appeal, he
won the right to a new trial that ended
March 36 with the same conviction and
sentence as the 2010 trial, but Coos
County Judge Richard Barron also imposed that the sentences be consecutive
to the previous 388 month sentence on
two convictions of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Murder. He will serve a
total of 788 months in prison.

An inmate died unexpectedly Thursday
evening, April 16, at Two Rivers Correctional Institution (TRCI) in Umatilla.
As with all unanticipated deaths in state
prisons, the Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division is conducting

Federal Fugitive Caught Resisting Arrest/Escape

A 35-year old federal fugitive, who escaped a North Dakota jail with the assistance of a 35-year old female corrections
officer, was captured Wednesday, April
1, in North Bend, with his companion.
Wesley Brown III was assisted in his
escape March 13 from the Lake Region
Law Enforcement Center in Devils Lake
by 26-year old Rachel Chepulis. The
two were tracked to Oregon and arrested
in a Bi-Mart store.
Guilty of Rape
A former North Bend resident was found
guilty Thursday morning, March 26, of
six-counts of Rape in the First Degree
involving an underage step daughter
between September 2008 and April 2009
following a three-day trail at the Coos
County Courthouse in Coquille. According to a news release from District
Attorney R. Paul Frasier, Kenneth

about 1630 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s
Deputies responded to the Hauser area,
north of North Bend for a report of a
wanted subject there. Deputies were
told that the wanted subject, Kenneth
Mullins Jr.,36 years of age of Charleston, Oregon was at 69184 Wildwood
Road. Mr. Mullins had two active felony warrants for his arrest. Sheriff’s
Deputies arrived at the address and located Mr. Mullins there. When Deputies
advised Mr. Mullins he was under arrest,
he took off running into the woods.
Deputies pursued Kenneth Mullins on
foot into the woods for a short time, until the suspect began reaching for something in his pocket. At that time, Deputies backed off and waited for additional

Burglar Arrested
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 04/11/2015 at
about 9:46 AM, Coos County Sheriff's Office received information
regarding a disturbance on Lampa Ln. west of Myrtle Point. As the
call was coming in the caller reported that they had returned home
to their residence and discovered suspicious subjects at their
house. The callers reported that they had seen a vehicle the subjects were in and were able to give a description of that vehicle.
Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies, Coquille Police and Oregon State
Police Troopers responded to the call. From the investigation it
was determined that a burglary had occurred at the residence on
Lampa Lane. Coquille Police Officers that were assisting located
the suspect vehicle, a white 1994 Honda Civic in the community of
Riverton on Hwy 42S and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Officer identified the suspect as 25 year old Jeremy Norris of Myrtle
Point. Mr. Norris was arrested and charged with Burglary I and
Theft III, he was transported to the Coos County Jail and booked.

George Phillip Murphy, Jr., 70, in the
infirmary unresponsive. Attempts were
made to resuscitate him, and paramedics
were called to the scene. Murphy was
pronounced deceased at 7:10 p.m. Murphy entered Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) custody on September
30, 2004, on one count of sexual penetration in the second degree out of Coos
County. His earliest release date was
February 27, 2017. Next of kin has been
notified. No other details are available at
this time.

Investigation
News release from CBPD. On Sunday,
March 22, 2015, just a little after 5:00
PM officers were called to a Coos Bay
residence for the report of an adult male
who was not breathing. A subsequent
investigation revealed the male died in
his home under what appeared to be
suspicious circumstances. The deceased
male was identified as 43 year old Christopher Koester of Coos Bay. Family
members have been notified of his death.
At this time, several leads are being
looked into by Coos Bay Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit. Additional information will be released as it
is determined through the investigation.

Criminal Trespass
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 3/20/15 at about 0830
hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office
received a report of subject trespassing
at 62339 Crown Point Road, Coos Bay,
Coos County, Oregon. When Deputies
arrived it was discovered Bruce Inman
had been at the above listed address earlier that day and had been warned not to
come back. Mr. Inman is Ms. Balogh
estranged husband. Bruce Inman was
arrested for Criminal Trespass in the
Second Degree. Mr. Inman was transported to the Coos County Jail where he
was released into the Jail Staffs custody.
Assault
Car Clouter Arrested
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 4/8/15 at about
1849 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of vehicles being broken into in the Charleston and Bastendorf
Beach area south of Coos Bay. Witnesses reported seeing a red
Ford Probe in the area and seemed to be related to the thefts. While
Deputies were investigating the thefts a citizen called and reported a
suspicious subject driving a red Ford Probe in the Barveiw area of
Cape Arago Hwy. Deputies responded to that area and located the
vehicle conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver and only
occupant in the vehicle was identified as 38 year old Jayson Bridges
with a listed address of Keiser, Oregon. As a result of the investigation Mr. Bridges was arrested for Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle
(2 cts), Theft 1, Theft 3, Criminal Mischief II (2 cts), and Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon. Mr. Bridges was transported to
the Coos County Jail. His vehicle was seized pending a search warrant and further investigation is continuing.
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On 03-21-15 at approximately 2048 hours, the Coos County
Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police
and the North Bend Police Department,
responded to the Sea Port RV Park in
Charleston regarding the report of a disturbance involving several subjects at
that location. In the initial report, it had
been reported that at least one person
had been stabbed and another party may
have a firearm. Upon arrival Officers
discovered one subject, Jordan Jones (21
yoa of Coos Bay), had suffered a minor
cut during a fight in the RV park, while
a second subject, Jonathan Windhurst
(29 yoa of Charleston), had suffered a
significant knife wound to his arm and
had already been transported to Bay
Area Hospital. During the investigation
it was discovered that the reported firearm was a pellet pistol made to look like
a real handgun. Jones’ injuries were
treated at the scene. Windhurst was
treated at Bay Area Hospital for a possible severed artery. This incident is still
under investigation by the Coos County
Sheriff’s Office. Arrests are anticipated.
Harassment
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On March 22, 2015, at
about 1620 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s
Deputies responded to 50310 Highway
101 in Bandon for a reported dispute.
Deputies arrived and located a male and
a juvenile female that were involved in a
dispute. Through an investigation, Deputies learned the male, Matthew
Houglum, had pushed a 15 year old juvenile female to the ground and threatened her. The female said she feared for
her life from Matthew and thought he
was going to hurt her. Deputies arrested
Matthew Houglum, 41 years old of Bandon, for the above listed charges and
transported him to the Coos County Jail.
Salem Shooting
Shortly after 11:00 am on April 24, Salem Police Officers made contact with a
person whom they believed to be wanted
near the parking area of the Walmart
store located at 1940 Turner Rd SE.
During the contact with the male suspect, he fled into a bus that had been
converted into a recreational vehicle and
refused to comply with commands to
come out. Officer Trevor Morrison and
his canine Baco also responded to assist.
The suspect came out of the vehicle and
there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the officers. No
officers were injured, but Baco was shot
in the head and the suspect retreated
back into the vehicle. Baco was evacuated for emergency veterinary care as
officers secured the area. Baco was released a short time later with only minor
injury and was cleared to go home. Officers from Salem Police Department,
Keizer Police Department, Marion
County Sheriff's Office and Oregon
State Police all responded to the scene to
set a safety perimeter and assist. The
Salem Police Department SWAT Team
responded, secured the area and immediately began negotiating with the suspect
in an effort to get him to surrender. Negotiators spoke with the suspect for several hours in an effort to get him to surrender peacefully. He also fired multiple

shots from the vehicle out towards officers, at one time narrowly missing a
SWAT officer. As the negotiations and
shots continued, the Marion County
Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police and
Portland Police Bureau sent additional
tactical officers and equipment to assist
in the situation. After several hours of
negotiations, tactical officers used specialized vehicles to open up the walls of
the vehicle in order to be able to see
where the suspect was and what he was
doing. Once the inside of the vehicle
was exposed, the suspect refused to
comply and continued to brandish a
handgun. At that time, approximately
6:28 pm, tactical officers fired at the
suspect and were able to eventually take
him into custody. No officers were injured. The suspect is not being identified at this time and he has since died of
his injuries. The Salem Police officers
involved in the initial incident were Officers Chad Galusha, Officer Robert
Owings, Corporal Tim Dezotell and Canine Officer Trevor Morrison. The tactical officers involved in the shooting of
the suspect are Officer Joshua Edmiston,
Officer Vincent Dawson and Officer
Sean Bennett. The deceased shooting
suspect has been identified as Mr. Mark
C. Hawkins (age 49) from Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Hawkins was wanted on a warrant out of Lane County for failing to
appear on the charge of Delivery of a
Controlled Substance. An autopsy was
conducted today by the Oregon State
Medical Examiner Dr. Karen Gunson.
Dr. Gunson determined Mr. Hawkins
was shot nine times. The cause of death
was determined to be gunshot wounds to
the chest. No further information is
available for release at this time as this is
an on-going investigation. Any further
information will be released by the
Marion County District Attorney's Office.

04/06/2015 at about 8:35 p.m., Newport
Police Officers responded to a report of
a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of
NE Benton and NE 6th Streets. One of
the vehicles had crashed into a house in
the 600 Block of NE Benton Street.
During their investigation, Officers
learned that Matea Pablo-Lucas, age 35
of Newport, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet cargo van north on NE Benton Street.

Burglar arrested
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office. On March 29, 2015,
at about 0930 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies and Coquille
Tribal Police responded to 64338 Penny Road for a report of a possible burglary with someone still in the residence. Sheriff’s Deputies
and Tribal Police Officer arrived and contacted the homeowner; Ms.
Patricia Jones who said she heard people upstairs in her house.
Deputies could also hear noises from the upstairs portion of the residence and during a search of the house located a male subject inside the residence as he was trying to flee the residence. This subject was identified as 22 year old Michael McKeny of Coos Bay.
There were indications that Mr. McKeny was not alone however a
search of the residence and surrounding area for other suspects had
negative results. Coos Bay officers and a K9 team assisted in a
search for other suspects. Deputies did locate numerous stolen
items from the residence in the garage and wooded area around the
property. Michael McKeny was arrested on the charges of Burglary I,
Burglary II, Theft I and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle. He was
transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked and
lodged. The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are
expected.

Hospital, following a complaint of discomfort. Fernandez-Galicia was issued
a citation for No Oregon Driver License.
Pablo-Lucas was arrested at the hospital
on six counts of Recklessly Endangering, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Reckless Driving, and Fail to Carry
and Present an Operator’s License. She
was cited and released at the hospital.
The Newport Police Department was
assisted by the Newport Fire Department
and PacWest Ambulance.
Mayday Rescue off

Coast Guard crews and good Samaritans
responded to a mayday call and aided
the crew of a sinking 32-foot fishing
vessel 20 miles southwest of Yaquina
Bay, Wednesday, April 8. A 47-foot
Motor Life Boat crew from Station
Yaquina Bay in Newport escorted the
fishing vessel Apache 4 to Yaquina Bay
after multiple crews worked to identify
the source of the flooding, secure it and
dewater the vessel. Watchstanders at
Coast Guard Sector North Bend received
a mayday call over VHF-FM channel 16
from the two fishermen around 8:42
p.m., reporting the vessel was taking on
water and sinking. The MLB crew and
MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crews from
Air Station North Bend and Air Facility
Newport were launched in response,
while the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter
Orcas was diverted from their nearby
patrol. Good Samaritans aboard the fishing vessels Kristina and Silver Quest
also responded to an urgent marine information broadcast issued by Sector
North Bend watchstanders. Once on
scene the air facility Dolphin crew transferred a dewatering pump to the vessel
using their rescue swimmer. The source
of the flooding was identified as an open
discharged valve and secured. The MLB
crew assisted with dewatering the vessel
and escorted them safely to Yaquina Bay
where they conducted a post search and
rescue boarding. No injuries were re-
ported. "The swift actions and combined efforts of our local mariners and
various Coast Guard assets, were able to
address the situation at hand quickly and
safely without injury, the loss of life or
loss of property," said Petty Officer 3rd
Class Coulter Perkins, a watchstander at
Sector North Bend. "We value our close
partnerships with more than just local
agencies, but also the mariner community." Weather conditions on scene were
reportedly seas up to 4-feet, 12 mph
winds and a visibility of 5 miles.
Burglar Arrested
News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office. On April 22, 2015 at approximately 11:22 PM, Lincoln County
Sheriff's Deputies responded to a suspicious person near SW Brentwood Dr.
and S Crestline Dr. in Waldport, Oregon. A female subject, later identified as
Kathleen Jenise Marco, 32 years of age
from Waldport, was located and items
from a vacant residence in the area were
found in her possession. Marco was also
found to be in possession of prescription
medication that did not belong to her.
Marco was arrested and lodged at the
Lincoln County Jail on one count of
Burglary I, one count of Theft II, and
one count of Unlawful Possession of
Prescription Drugs. Marco’s bail was set
at $180,000.

Highway 207 near milepost 1 in Morrow
County. According to Lieutenant Mike
Turner, on April 22nd at approximately
1:13pm, Troopers from the OSP Hermiston and Pendleton offices responded to a
reported fatal crash on HWY 207 near
milepost 1 in Morrow County which
blocked both north and southbound
lanes of travel. Preliminary investigation revealed a red, 2009 Honda Fit,
operated by NEAL REAU,age 35, from
Richland Washington, was traveling
southbound when for an unknown reasons the vehicle failed to negotiate a
curve and crossed into the northbound
lane; sideswiping a white, 2009 Chevy
pickup towing a flatbed trailer. The
driver of the Chevy pickup, identified as
THEODORE BITHER, age 44, of Echo
Oregon, was transported to the hospital
in Heppner with minor injuries. REAU
was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The highway remained closed for approximately 5 hours while Troopers investigated the crash and to allow for the
removal of the vehicles.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are
investigating a single vehicle crash
Thursday, April 23, near the intersection
of Highway 219 and French Prairie
Road near St. Paul. Preliminary information from investigators indicates a
green Ford Aerostar was northbound on
Highway 219 near French Prairie Road
when it failed to negotiate the turn and
left the roadway striking a tree. The
driver, name withheld pending next of
kin notification, was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP is investigating the incident and a collision reconstructionist is responding.
DUII Crash
According to Trooper Tiffany Lynn, on
April 24, 2015 at 9:48 am a two vehicle
serious injury crash occurred on SR
HWY 226 near Milepost (MP) 8.5 (near
Scio). Unit #1, a 1995 Honda Accord,
driven by Mr. Scott Cook was eastbound
on Hwy 226 when it crossed the centerline and collided with Unit #2 a westbound Itasca Sunriver Motorhome. Unit
#2 was driven by Mr. Randall Starr (age
76) with his wife, Mrs. Barbara Starr
(age 77) as the right front passenger.
Both Mr. Cook and the Starrs are residents of Scio. After the head-on collision, the motorhome came to rest off the
roadway and the Honda Accord came to
rest on the shoulder of the eastbound
lane. It is unknown if Mr. Cook was
wearing a seatbelt but the Starrs were
properly restrained. Airbags deployed in
the Honda Accord. Mr. Cook was taken
to Salem Hospital via Lifeflight with
serious injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Starr sustained minor injuries. Mr. Cook has
been cited and released for DUIIControlled Substances and Reckless
Driving.

A 46-year old man from Stayton was
killed Saturday, April 18, in a dune
buggy accident at the Sand Lake Recreation Area in southern Tillamook County
on the North Oregon Coast. Robert Sullenger was operating the dune buggy
that collided with another. Both of his
passengers were also injured and taken
to hospitals. The occupants of the other
dune buggy were not injured.
California Homicide
Suspects Arrested in
Oregon
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers in
Springfield arrested two California men
wanted in connection with a ContraCosta County California Homicide earlier Wednesday evening, April 8. According to OSP Lieutenant Lang Hinkle,
OSP Troopers in Springfield were notified that two suspects in a Contra-Costa
County California Homicide were traveling through Oregon at about 3:15 p.m.
At about 5:00 p.m., OSP troopers located the vehicle, a black 2014 Kia Soul,
and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on
I-5 near milepost 201 southbound. Due
to the risk involved in the stop both directions of I-5 were shut down for approximately 20 minutes as troopers and
officers from the Eugene Police Department and Lane County Sheriff's Office
took the men into custody. The two men
were identified as ZAKARI A. WILSON, 20, and ARTIE I. ADANANDUS,
24, both of California. Both men complied with police and were taken into
custody without incident.

Fatal Crash on
Hwy. 20 Arrested
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers continuing the investigation into April 6,
fatal traffic crash on Highway 20 near
Eddyville have arrested an involved
driver. According to OSP Lieutenant
Justin McGladrey, On April 7, 2015, at
approximately 1:30 PM, IVAN SANDRIA CRUZ was taken into custody
after being released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. SANDRIA
CRUZ was lodged in the Lincoln
County Jail on charges of Manslaughter
in the Second Degree, Driving Under the
Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another
Person. OSP troopers from the Newport
Patrol office are continuing the investigation which will be forwarded to the
Lincoln County District Attorney's Of-
fice for consideration of additional
charges. Any further media requests

Stabbing Suspect
Arrested
News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office. On March 24, 2015, Deputy
Bruster of the Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office was dispatched to a residence,
just outside the city limits of Toledo, on
report of a stabbing. The deputy contacted the male victim and started an
investigation which revealed he was
stabbed multiple times with a knife in
the early morning hours at the location.
The victim was transported to the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in
Newport where he received treatment for
his injuries. During the course of the
investigation Axl K. Goodell, 22 years
of age from Siletz, was identified as the
suspect of the stabbing. The Sheriff's
Office obtained an arrest warrant for
Goodell and, with assistance from other
law enforcement agencies, began checking the local area for him. Information
was developed that persons within Lincoln County were likely harboring Goodell and providing him with means of
transportation. On April 7, 2015, the
U.S. Marshalls Service, working in conjuction with the Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office, arrived in the area of 218 Gwee
Shut Rd., Siletz and observed Goodell
getting into a sport utility vehicle. The
Marshalls then contacted Goodell and
took him into custody without incident.

Kaiser, 19 years old from Siletz. She

authorities. Both Goodell and Kaiser
were transported to the Lincoln County
Jail. Goodel was lodged on the warrant,
listing charges as: Attempted Murder,
Assault in the First Degree, Assault in
the second Degree and Unlawful use of a
weapon. His bail was set at $250,000.00.
Kaiser was lodged and charged with
Hindering prosecution. Her bail set at
$50,000.00.
Sheriff’s Office. On April 12, 2015 at
approximately 7:15PM Lincoln County
Sheriff’s Deputy Karl Vertner contacted
Chester William Smith Jr., age 29, at his
Otis home in regards to a felony warrant
out of Washington State for Possession
of a Controlled Substance. Smith Jr.
was taken into custody and transported
to the Lincoln County Jail where he was
lodged on the Oregon charge of Fugitive
from other states with his bail set at
$150,000.

News release Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office. On April 7th, 2015 at approximately 7:58 PM, Deputy Schermerhorn
with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office
contacted a male subject associated with
an illegally parked vehicle on Highway
101 near NW Colorado St. in Yachats,
OR. During the contact with the male
subject, later identified as Jon L. Wilkinson, 39 years of age from Klamath
Falls, a substantial amount of packaged
Marijuana was observed inside the vehicle. The Marijuana was seized and Wilkinson was arrested and lodged at the
Lincoln County jail on one count of
Unlawful possession of Marijuana. Wilkinson's bail was set at $50,000. Subsequently the Marijuana was later weighed
and determined to be approximately 1
pound. Wilkinson's vehicle was towed
from the scene.
News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office. On April 11, 2015 at approximately 9:35am, Lincoln County
Sheriff's Deputies responded to a residence in the 200 block of N Deer Drive,
Otis, Oregon to investigate a reported
drug complaint. Deputies also received
information of subjects staying at the
location with outstanding warrants for
their arrest. Deputies contacted the
home owner and subsequently conducted a search of the residence. Several people were located and contacted
inside the location. 27 year old Otis
resident Christopher Alan Church was
contacted and found to have a valid Lincoln County Circuit Court warrant issued for his arrest for Fail to appear, bail

a.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers received a request to assist Josephine
County Sheriff's Deputies who were
responding to a shooting in the O'Brien
area. Officers first arriving on scene
found a deceased male with apparent
gunshot wounds who was later identified
as WARREN BATIE, age 43 of Utah.
Preliminary information indicated the
adult man who had shot BATIE was
being transported to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass by private vehicle.
While responding to the scene of the
shooting, OSP detectives located the
vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and
detained the subject, identified as JEF-
