year we commemorate
the centenary since the

The Red Cross nurses on the
ship were volunteers with
basic medical training. The
Commonwealth of Australia
became a federation in 1901.
However many believe that
Anzac Day represents the day
when Australia truly became a
nation. We remember the
spirit of the Anzacs and we
honour their memory every
year by saying these words;
courage the Anzac troops managed to
secure the outpost of Lone Pine. They
were able to fend off the Turks
through fierce trench warfare. The
conditions were horrendous. Letters
home described dysentery, frostbite,
periods of hunger, lack of water, lice
and rats. Through it all they showed
mateship and courage in the midst of
adversity. Hospital ships anchored off
shore received the many wounded.

Harmony Day- By Stephen 6M
The culture of Australia has developed over time. People, historical events and
the natural environment have made us who we are today. Australia is a
culturally diverse nation. Different foods, beliefs and interests add to
Australia’s cultural diversity. Australians eat a combination of foods from
many different countries. New visitors have introduced new kinds of foods
and many international foods which are now common in Australia. For
example; Japan-Sushi, Italy-Pasta, India-Curry, Lebanon-Kebab, South-East
Asia-Stir Fry and Jasmine Rice.
The main reason for Harmony Day is to promote a positive message that
Australians can build a peaceful and safe society and to be able to celebrate
their differences. Harmony Day first began in 1999 and is now held on the 21 st
of March each year.
This year Ringrose had a variety of events. These included Chinese
Magic/Dancing and an Indian-inspired Bollywood dance workshop presented
by Cultural Infusion. Staff and students were encouraged to wear orange
clothing to get into the spirit of Harmony Day.

Shopkins have expressions on their face. There are blue, purple and aqua bags.
You can also the baskets witch are blue purple and pink. Nearly every Shopkin
has a pair. You can trade Shopkins with other people. Shopkins are not made in

On Friday the 1st of May, two puppeteers from Camp Quality came to visit our school. Camp
Quality is an organisation that helps out kids with cancer by making them LAUGH.
I found the puppet show extremely funny, yet contained some important messages. The puppet
show focused on a girl named Kylie who had cancer. Kylie always felt left out because she
thought everyone had a superpower but her. One day at lunch her friend Dean helped her
discover that her superpower was fighting against cancer and winning the battle.
It is very inspiring to see how Camp Quality can change lives and can give children confidence in
dealing with potentially life threatening diseases.
Always remember – Laughter is the best medicine!

Our last game for the term- By Sophia 5C
On Friday 20/3/15 Ringrose Public School's Softball teams had their last game for term 1, they played against Widemere at
Ollie Webb.
All that training, sweating and running in the blazing sun paid off because they won! The score was 10-2 and even though they
won, they still had great sportsmanship towards the other team. While the girls on the softball team were playing their innings
they continuously encouraged each other, which I assume made their team achieve victory. Excellent game girls and I hope
we see another game like that again.
The boys’
Softball team (since they were waiting for their game after the girls) they were concentrating on how the other
team was playing throughout the innings so they hopefully know what to expect from the boys when they started their game.
The Ringrose boys without a doubt tried to stay in the lead of the Widemere boys without showing any hesitation, but sadly
they lost by just a couple of points. The score was 6-4; however the boys were still cheering because they weren't going to let
some Softball game get them down, they still have loads more games ahead of them. Great game boys and good luck on your
next game.
