June
Medieval Holidays and Festivals in June: Midsummer Eve, the
Mummers entertained at the 'Festival of Fire' reliving legends
such as St George and the Dragon. Bones were often burned
leading to the term 'bonfire'. The summer Solstice was June
23rd
July
Medieval Holidays in July: St. Swithin's Day falls on 15th July.
Legend says that during the bones of St Swithin were moved
and after the ceremony it began to rain and continued to do
so for forty days
August
Medieval Holidays in August: Lammas Day was celebrated on
August 2nd. The ' loaf-mass ' day, the festival of the first
wheat harvest of the year. Houses were sometimes decorated
with garlands and there were candle lit processions

Textiles Guild & Open Sewing
All levels of sewing experience are
welcome. If you are brand new to
costuming, there are plenty of folks on
hand to help you figure out where to get
started. Both hostesses have extensive
costuming libraries, and there are several
machines available to sew on and plenty of
open table space for cutting, measuring, etc.
Some people just bring small embroidery
projects and attend to socialize, meet new
people, and share ideas about research and
projects. Please call the hostess in advance
to help them plan for the number of people

Shire Council Meeting
Come join us. The next
Darach monthly meeting will be on
Wednesday July 6 at 6:45pm in the
downstairs meeting room.
Brewer’s Guild
Once a month, we
gather together to taste, create
and discuss alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Meads,
cordials, beer, wine and elixirs
were all used during medieval
times. The next brew meeting
will be in April.

Saint Swithin
Fighter Practices Heavies & Rapier
Armoured Combat (Heavies) is an
unchoreographed martial art, recreating
swordplay of the middle ages using rattan
swords, shields, and secondary weapons.
Armoured Combat practices are held
Sunday afternoons at Rancho Conejo
Playfields, 950 Ventu Park Rd. Thousand
Oaks. You must be at least 18yrs old to
participate.
Rapier is medieval Fencing in the
round, using foil, rapier, musketeer, or
schlager (no saber). Rapier practices are
held Sunday afternoons at Via Marina Park
in Oxnard. RSVP to Alexander at:
