President's Message
Eight months into my term as your President, I continue to be touched and encouraged
by the immense, relentless support from all to the Association. We have kept up the good
tradition of rolling out plenty of educational and fun networking activities with determination
and vigor, including visits to two unique heritage destinations: the KFBG Green Hub in Tai Po
and the Jao Tsung-I Academy in Lai Chi Kok. Because of our members’ special connections
with these institutions, we were able to share much more with the operators, for instance, a
delicious DIY green lunch at the Green Hub and talks by authorities on heritage and gardens
at the Academy.
During the festive CNY period, we actively participated in celebratory events, consolidating
and renewing friendship with other organizations. I was unfortunately taken ill in that time but
the happy photos of our friends all dressed up to the occasions cheered me up.
The two most heartening developments since the last newsletter are perhaps the successful
recruitment of over 7 members (some more to be confirmed soon) and the ‘fast and
furious’ presentation of the Mother’s Day Shopping Spree, which fetched for the Charitable
Foundation a donation of HK$120,000. I am grateful to the Membership C’ttee and Angel
Hon, whose magic wand remains potent! I look forward to a good turnout at the New Force
Tea Gathering this Saturday (6 June) when we’d grow new friendship and strengthen the
Association’s power to share and serve.
Behind the scene, all the wheels have quietly swirled on – the wonderful programmes of our
Social Enterprise & Services C’ttee, Public Affairs C’ttee etc. are all contributing to a better
Hong Kong. It was also on this pragmatic note that I responded to the request, on your
behalf, from Our Hong Kong Foundation, who has been collecting quotes to underline Hong
Kong’s positive energy and spirit. Rather than political haggling, it is much more productive
and beneficial for the community to find common grounds and to move forward. Let’s stay on
the ground offering needed services and not get carried away with just high-sounding talks
and posturing.
