Richard Dacey
Patron: Karl Jenkins OBE
Richard has been chorus master since 1996.
Now based in Leicestershire as Head of
Performing Arts at Guthlaxton College,
Richard’s musical career has included
performing, composing, coaching, teaching
and directing, both in this country and in
North America. With his enthusiasm and
dedication he continues to lead the choir in
achieving high standards.

Sir Henry Wood, who

directed the choir from
1922 to 1934, to John Rutter who
conducted his Requiem, Gloria and Mass of the Children. In recent years
the choir has performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra under the
baton of Sir Andrew Davis and Simon Halsey and is delighted to be
performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra once again.

As well as performing in Leicester, the choir receives invitations to
perform at other
venues, including the
Royal Albert Hall,
London. The choir
has toured abroad,
performing at
wonderful venues
in European cities,
including Florence
and Paris.

Rehearsing with

In addition to his position as accompanist
with LPC, Mark is much in demand as a
soloist, accompanist and teacher throughout
the Midlands region. He is assistant organist
at Kettering Parish Church, organist to
Kettering Choral Society and the
Wombourne & District Choral Society, part
time répétiteur for the Birmingham Royal
Ballet Company and Assistant Musical Director for Northampton
Operatic Company.

We invite anyone interested in joining the choir to come to a few
rehearsals where you will be made welcome and offered the chance
to sing alongside experienced members. If you feel ready to become
a full member and to take part in concerts, a short
voice test will help establish your
ability to sing in tune

you in the
appropriate

The choir’s 2011-2012 season has a strong
English theme, celebrating music from some of the best of English
composers. Top class London orchestra Marylebone Camerata
returns to accompany the choir for both the Autumn and Spring
concerts with conductor Hilary Davan Wetton.

The season opens with a performance of Rutter’s Requiem and a rare
opportunity to hear Dyson’s Hierusalem. Internationally acclaimed soloist
Emma Johnson performs Finzi’s Clarinet Concerto which she has recently
recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

During the Christmas season choirs fill cathedrals and concert halls all over
Britain with performances of Handel’s Messiah. The Phil’s performance is
a highlight of the festive season in Leicester. This year the choir joins
the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Adrian Partington in a
concert that promises to be something special.

The final concert finds us firmly back in the 20th century with a varied
programme of English music. The first half includes Constant Lambert’s
Rio Grande, written in 1928 in the jazz idiom, and Richard Addinsell’s
Warsaw Concerto written in 1941 for the film Dangerous Moonlight and
subsequently used in many popular songs. The concert concludes with
Elgar’s The Music Makers composed in 1912.
