Taronga Zoo- New Upper Entry Precinct Client Taronga Zoo Conservation Society Location Bradleys Head Road, Mosman, NSW, 2088 Architect BVN Architecture Contract Type Construct Lump Sum Project Description This project consisted of the creation of two plazas (inner and outer) at the front entrance to Taronga Zoo. The Inner Plaza involved a zone of buildings and paved areas for primary circulation, information gathering and amenities, directing patrons to the zoo entry. Here two new buildings were constructed: ■■ A new retail building, including a café with indoor and outdoor seating ■■ A new facilities building, including pubic amenities, ticketing and staff offices ■■ A new board-walk and stairs were constructed to allow access to and from the Inner Plaza The restored heritage entrance building now forms the “gateway” from the Outer Plaza to the Inner Plaza. The Outer Plaza consists of a forecourt area, the scope of works involving the restoration of the heritage listed former Tram Shed, which was converted into offices and administrative space. The former asphalt car park was transformed into a grassed and landscaped overflow car park for use on peak visitor days. Value Added by AWE The AWE team worked efficiently and effectively, consistently meeting project objectives and scheduled program dates, reflective of the team’s rigorous planning and high attention to detail.
