We recommend relaxing tension on retractors every 20 minutes to ensure proper blood flow. The Thompson Retractor is provided in a non-sterile condition. Reference the Thompson Retractor IFU for cleaning, sterilization, and care instructions. REFERENCE THE THOMPSON RETRACTOR IFU FOR ADDITIONAL WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS. FOR HIP, LAPAROSCOPIC, BOLLING MITRAL VALVE RETRACTOR, OR MIS PLA RETRACTOR SYSTEMS, REFERENCE THE CORRESPONDING USER MANUAL FOR EACH. 3 THOMPSON RETRACTOR USER MANUAL QUESTIONS OR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: THOMPSONSURGICAL.COM USER MANUAL / FRAME SET UP STEP 1: RAIL CLAMP Open rail clamp jaw and place over the sterile drapes (A). D B Rotate the knob at the top of the Elite II Rail Clamp (or bottom of the Infinite Height Rail Clamp, if using) clockwise to tighten (B), utilizing the attached hanging handles for leverage when needed. C If using the Infinite Height Rail Clamp, adjust height by turning the cam joint counter-clockwise to loosen (C). Slide the post to the desired height (D) and turn the joint clockwise to tighten. B When necessary, use a wider OR table or add 2 ½” to the width of the table by using a Rail Extender 41917. A Infinite Height Rail Clamp STEP 2: CROSSBAR Unlock rail clamp cam joint and insert the crossbar into the rail clamp cam joint (A). A Position the crossbar and secure by flipping the cam joint handle into the 'locked' position, grasping the rail clamp for leverage (B). For Bilateral Frame, repeat with opposite side of crossbar and second rail clamp, using an assistant. B If using the Bilateral Cervical Spine Frame or Head and Neck Frame, skip ahead to Step 3. STEP 3: FRAME ARMS Unlock desired cam joint and insert the chosen frame arm into the cam joint (A). Flip the cam joint into the locked position, grasping frame components for leverage (B). B Repeat as neccesary with additional arms. On the Quick Frame and Spine Frame, arms attach to the crossbar. For all other frames, arms attach to the rail clamp. A 4 THOMPSON RETRACTOR USER MANUAL QUESTIONS OR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 1.800.227.7543 USER MANUAL / HANDLES AND BLADES S-LOCK® BLADE ATTACHMENT ANGLING HANDLES Attach blade to handle by pushing plunger (A) and inserting blade nipple (B). Blades may be angled in 40º or angled out 35º with wrench (A) or fingers (B). When using S-Lock handles and blades, push the plunger to switch between the 'swivel' and 'locked' positions. (This step may be done before or after attaching retractor handles to the frame.) A A B Swivel B Locked CLIP-ON RETRACTOR HANDLE ATTACHMENT CLIP-ON RETRACTOR HANDLE REMOVAL Handles may be added anywhere on the frame arms or crossbar. Clip retractor handle to the frame in desired location (A). Unlock retractor handle by flipping the cam joint into the 'unlocked' position. Position blade in the incision, then lock retractor in place by flipping the cam joint into the 'locked' position (B). To make removal easier, “pinch” the back of the cam joint using thumb and index finger (A). Gently lift up off of arm (B). To prevent blade from rising up when locking handle, hold blade in position with opposite hand and grasp onto handle for leverage while locking. B A B A MICRO-ADJUSTABLE HANDLES SCREW DOWN HANDLE ATTACHMENT (OPTIONAL) Blades may be retracted while in the 'locked' position by turning the Micro-Adjustable Handle knob clockwise (A). Slide the Universal Joint onto the desired frame arm (A). Release tension by pressing the pawl (B). Slide retractor into Universal Joint (B), position blade where desired, and turn Universal Joint knob clockwise to tighten (C). (To remove, turn Universal Joint knob counter clockwise to loosen and slide off.)
