EDR 900: Event Driven Radio
EVENT DRIVEN RADIO 900MHZ TRANSCEIVER DESCRIPTION The event driven radio offers a superior low cost wireless solution for applications with stringent battery life time requirement. The transceiver operates at 900MHz ISM band. Thus applications can further benefit from longer communication distance with a minimum power budget. To achieve ultra low power consumption, the receiver is based on envelope detection to avoid many power consuming blocks, such as VCO and PLL. A unique two-tone modulation architecture is adopted to overcome the drawback (limited selectivity) inherent to this type of envelope detector based architectures. Therefore, good interference robustness is remained in this ultra low power design. To cater for application scenarios with different power budget and communication distance requirements, the receiver is highly configurable. There are four RF gain modes, which leading to the active power consumption ranging from 65 to 150 μW. Corresponding variety in sensitivity levels covers communication distance from a few meters to hundreds of meters in a most efficient way. SOLUTION BENEFITS O O O O The event driven radio offers a wireless link solution with state-of-the-art lowest power consumption, catering for low data rate, short to long distance communication. The configurable receiver consumes less than 150 μW active power enabling latency sensitive communication. Configurable operating modes cover different application needs with different power budgets. Complete evaluation kit offers flexibility to application development building on this radio solution. APPLICATIONS O O O O O O O Remote controls for consumer electronics Home automation Healthcare monitoring Smart car key Logistics Infrastructure monitoring Ultra low power sensor networks EVALUATION KIT To offer the end user high flexibility in developing applications based on this ultra low power radio, an evaluation kit can be provided. This evaluation kit integrates transmitter and receiver event driven radio chips, FPGA where the baseband runs, and microcontroller on the same PCB board. Users can easily define and develop their own application stacks on top of the radio, which means MAC layer and/or above. It is also possible to connect this evaluation kit to other sensor interfaces. This kit helps a quick development of an application demonstration.
