Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
April 5, 2015
The Easter Proclamation— “The Exsultet”
The Easter Vigil, celebrated on Holy Saturday night, is the greatest liturgical celebration of the year. As the service
begins, the lit Easter Candle - the symbol of Christ - is carried into the dark church. Once the candle reaches the front of
the building, the Exsultet is sung. This joyous hymn is the oldest known hymn of praise sung the night of Easter.
Tracing Jesus’ redemptive act back to Adam and Eve’s sin (“O Happy Fault”) it cries, (“...which gained for us such a
Redeemer”). It concludes by describing the Easter Candle as a symbol of the invisible Lord. The candle is lit for all
masses for the 50 days of Easter. It is also used throughout the year for Baptisms and Funerals.
Because this hymn is of such significance, portions of the text have been printed for you. Consider using these words as
a source of prayerful reflection focused on the joy of this great feast.
The Easter Proclamation
This is the night,
when once you led our forebears, Israel’s children,
from slavery in Egypt
and made them pass dry-shod through the Red Sea.
This is the night
that with a pillar of fire
banished the darkness of sin.
This is the night
that even now, throughout the world,
sets Christian believers apart from worldly vices
and from the gloom of sin,
leading them to grace.
and joining them to his holy ones.
This is the night,
when Christ broke the prison-bars of death
and rose victorious from the underworld.
Our birth would have been no gain,
had we not been redeemed.
O wonder of your humble care for us!
O love, O charity beyond all telling,
to ransom a slave you gave away your Son!
O truly necessary sin of Adam,
destroyed completely by the Death of Christ!
O happy fault
that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!
O truly blessed night,
worthy alone to know the time and hour
when Christ rose from the underworld!
This is the night
of which it is written:
The night shall be as bright as day,
dazzling is the night for me,
and full of gladness.
The sanctifying power of this night
dispels wickedness, washes faults away,
restores innocent to the fallen, and joy to mourners,
drives out hatred, fosters concord, and brings down the mighty.
On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church.

him in your prayers as we all play an important role
in his journey to the priesthood.
Our parish community will celebrate with him at the grade school mass on

Current Volunteer Needs
In a parish the size of Immaculate Conception, we are always in need of volunteers to
help in our various ministries. Due to space restrictions in this bulletin, we are not able
to list all of the many opportunities which are available.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact Maria Wilbert,
630 530-3498, [email protected].
This year, we are giving our parishioners the opportunity to remember their deceased
family members by donating flowers in their memory. The many beautiful Easter flowers that will adorn our church
and chapel can be given in memory of loved ones. A list of those remembered will be included in the bulletin at a later
date.
A flower envelope was included in your envelope packets - they are also available in the Narthex. You can also fill out
the form below and place it in the collection basket or return it to the Parish Office.

12 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
April 5, 2015
Christian Service
He is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Through the extraordinary generosity of the IC parish
family, along with food collections from Visitation and
several food baskets from Redeemer Lutheran, we were
able to provide nearly 90 Easter food baskets to
individuals and families who needed them. We also
prepared over 100 children’s baskets.
HEARTFELT THANKS to all who assisted in this
outreach: our anonymous donor who donated 50 hams,
others who donated food, hams, gift cards, children’s
toys, Easter baskets or bags –those who helped sort
food, assemble the food or children’s baskets--- those
who delivered or distributed baskets to our families and
their children--- those who helped in any other way or
prayed for the success of this program.
Special thanks to the ICGS and Religious Ed students,
who donated a sundry of children’s basket items,
enabling us to provide baskets to children who would
not ordinarily receive one. We thank the Scouts and
other students who made personalized Easter cards for
each and every basket and strung the basket tags.
Many thanks to our food chairpersons, Marita Kasley and
Lynne Healy, along with our children’s basket chairs
Maria Shannon. The successful execution of our outreach
programs depends solely upon our volunteer base and the
generosity of our parish family. We are grateful.
May God return to you what you so generously share
with others.
CONGRATULATIONS, JULIA, SAMANTHA,
DARA, JENNIFER AND LILLY!
As a parish family, we congratulate those who were
received into full Communion with the Catholic Church
at the Easter Vigil. Julia Owens was baptized and
received the Sacraments of Confirmation and First
Eucharist. Samantha Caron and Dara Wise made a
Profession of Faith, were confirmed and received First
Eucharist. Jennifer Owens and Lillian Labuda completed
their Sacraments of Initiation, receiving Confirmation and
First Eucharist.
These individuals have been in formation through the
RCIA pr ocess since September . We also congr atulate
their godparents/sponsors who journeyed with them. Let
us rejoice with them and pray for them in a special way
as they join us at the Eucharistic table.
Needed items include
vegetable oil, pasta and
pasta sauce, canned tuna
fish, canned chicken,
coffee, laundry detergent,
dish soap, body wash and
shampoo. Milk, cheese and
eggs, along with fresh fruit
and vegetables are always needed and appreciated. Food
may always be dropped at the PAC/Rectory during
normal business hours. God bless you for your
continued support of our food pantry.
MOTHER’S DAY GIFT COLLECTION
Once again, we are collecting self-care packages for women who visit the IC Food Pantry.
Individual gift bags can include items such as shampoo, conditioner, hand or body lotion, face
soap, nail polish and polish remover, shower/bath gel, cologne, cosmetics,
gift certificates, jewelry, socks, note cards and anything that would make someone feel special.
Items should be in a gift bag and deposited in the marked bins in the narthex the weekend of
May 3 / 4. Thank you for helping to make someone’s Mother’s Day a little more special.
