ENTRY TOOLS
Ontario Knife Company (OKC) is
no stranger to military and LE professionals, and they have a long history of
providing tough tools for rough use. Not
long ago they teamed up with former
Army Ranger and custom knifemaker
Justin Gingrich. Justin took his own
years of experience as welLas extensive field testing and came up with a
set of entry tools for Ontario that will
work as well for cops and EMTs as
they do soldiers on the battlefield. Ontario's Xtreme Rescue (XR) line consists of 18- and 24-inch entry tools that
are a combination of axe and Halligan.

I received a 24-inch tool in safety
green for testing, and it's a burly beast
in its own right. At around 5.5 pounds,
it weighs in close to the 18-inch Stanley
Fubar but provides you with a little
more leverage with its longer overall
length. The axe edge also gives you a
different option since you can hack as
well as smash with the XR Entry Tools.
The flat profile and combination of tools
make the XR series good choice for the
trunk of the patrol car or areas where
space is tight. In testing, the XR Entry
Tool worked especially well
against lighter material like aluminum screen doors, wooden
exterior doors, and against
windows of all shapes and
sizes. It has enough mass to smash as
well, although the feel is different than
the more sledgehammer-based Stanley
