message.
Villa Kerylos
On the Mediterranean coast, between Nice and Monaco, the Greek Villa Kerylos is
one of the most extraordinary monuments on the Riviera. Built between 1902 and
1908 in the period the French call the „Belle Epoque“, it is a unique reconstruction
of an ancient Greek home. „Kerylos“ means Halcyon, often identified as a kingfisher, a poetic mythical bird, considered to be a bird of good omen.
This is a tribute to Greek civilization by two lovers of Ancient Greece, Théodore
Reinach, an archaeologist and patron of the arts, and Emmanuel Pontremoli, an
inspired architect.
The Villa is a faithful reconstruction of Greek noble houses built on the island of
Delos in the second century B.C. This island in the Cyclades archipelago is situated in the Aegean Sea, south of Athens. Far from being just a simple reproduction
of dwellings on the island of Delos, Villa Kerylos is a reinvention of ancient Greece.
From the arrangement of the rooms to the sophisticated detail of the décor, everything was designed to recreate the atmosphere of a luxurious Greek villa.
Villa Santo Sospir
Built in 1931 on the Western side of the Billionaire peninsula of Cap Ferrat, the Villa
Santo Sospir was bought by Francine Weisweiller in 1950. She invited her friend,
the multi-talented French artist Jean Cocteau who decorated the walls of the villa
which has been classified as a historical monument since 2007.
The movie maker of “The Beauty and the Beast” featuring Jean Marais and Josette Day found here a place favorable to its creativity. He left his prints and something from his soul on the walls of the villa.

Nice
The city of Nice has been a popular tourist destination for centuries, for royalty and
commoners alike.
Nice is ancient. Inhabited for 400,000 years, the „modern“ city of Nikaia was established by the Greeks. The Romans may have started the tourism with their
extensive baths in Cimiez. In spite of modernization, the city retains its medieval
heritage in the vieille ville (old town), with its narrow winding streets and closely
packed red-tiled roofs.
You stroll in the narrow streets of the old town that you will admire from the “hill of
the castle”, you’ll wander by the colorful flower market, and you will discover the
antique roman section of Cimiez, as the Marc Chagall Museum.

This tour will lead you to one of the jewel of the French Riviera; the village of Saint
Paul de Vence.
Tour description:
After you leave Toulon, you will take northern direction and enjoy a very scenic
drive through genuine Provencal villages like Le Cannet des Maures, le Thoronet
or Brignoles.
Saint Paul de Vence
Located on the North of Cagnes-sur-Mer, Saint Paul de Vence focuses on a millenary heritage. Its street is an open-air museum with its medieval enclosure, towers,
bastion and donjon that will amaze more than one. And let’s not forget its Foundation Maeght that gathers one of the most important European collection of works
from the 20th century.
The Maeght Foundation: A Place Dedicated to Art
The Marguerite and Aimé Maeght Foundation is a unique example of a private
European Foundation. Inaugurated on July 28, 1964 by André Malraux, then Minister of Cultural Affairs, this architectural ensemble was entirely conceived and
financed by Marguerite and Aimé Maeght to present modern and contemporary
art in all its forms. Painters and sculptors collaborated closely in the realization of
this foundation with Catalan architect Lluís Sert by creating frequently monumental works integrated into the building and gardens: the Giacometti courtyard, one
of the world’s most famous “in-situ” works, the Miró labyrinth filled with sculptures
and ceramics, the mural mosaics by Chagall and Tal-Coat, the pool and stained
glass window by Braque, the Bury fountain …
A true museum in nature, the Maeght Foundation is an exceptional site that contains one of the most important collections in Europe, with paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphic works of modern art from the 20th century (Bonnard,
Braque, Calder, Chagall, Chillida, Giacometti, Léger, Miró, Ubac …) and contemporary artists (Adami, Calzolari, Caro, Del Re, Dietman, Kelly, Mitchell, Monory, Oh
Sufan, Takis, Tàpies ...).

Entrecasteaux - visit of the castle and free time in the village
This typical Provençal village has kept its original charm that goes all the way
back to the 11th century. The castle was built in the 16th century on the ruins of
an 11th fort and was transformed in the 17th and 18th centuries. Perfectly kept
and restored, it was the residence of many Provençal nobles and boasts a garden
designed by Le Notre.
The whole village has been classified a historical monument, with its ancient
houses and the fortified church St. Sauveur. Entrecasteaux is one of the prettiest
towns of the region.
Cotignac - visit of the village and free time for lunch
Cotignac, situated in the interior of Var and in the center of Provence, is a village
of character. With a waterfall in the background, Cotignac stands at the foot of
a majestic great rock. Set next to the cliff, the village has houses of the l6th and
17th centuries, stone or wrought iron decorations and narrow streets, churches
from the 16th and 17th centuries, all witnesses to the long and interesting past of
Cotignac.
Wine tasting
In early afternoon continuation to a winery, visit of the domain and wine tasting.
Enjoy the art of living and the tradition. Visit the domain where they produce the
AOC wine Cote de Provence, famous all over the world for its famous rosé wines

Based on the ancient acropolis of the Greek city of Antipolis, Roman fort, residence of the bishops in the Middle Ages (from 442 to 1385), the Grimaldi castle
was inhabited from 1385 by the Monegasque family that gave it its name. Became
governor‘s residence of the king, and then from 1792, City Hall, the building is
transformed into barracks in 1820, marking the taking possession of the premises
by the Military Engineering until 1924.

The Verdon Canyon is France’s answer to the Grand Canyon. About 12.5 miles
long and 2,300 feet deep, it offers dizzying views down into its depths.
Professor of French, Greek and Latin at Lycee Carnot in Cannes, Romuald Dor de
la Souchère began in 1923 archaeological research in Antibes. March 29, 1924, the
Dor Souchère created the Friends of Antibes museum which aims to establish a
historical and archaeological museum and work toward making known the history
of the region.
In 1925 the castle was bought by Grimaldi Antibes, becoming the first to Grimaldi
museum curator, Romuald Dor de la Souchère. In September 1945, Pablo Picasso
goes to Grimaldi museum in 1946, Romuald Dor de la Souchère asked him to use
part of the castle as a workshop.
Antibes, Juan les Pins
Ideally located between sea and mountains, second city of the Alpes-Maritimes,
Antibes mixes traditions and water fun, history and heritage, festivals and nightlife. Nearby, the seaside resort Juans-les-Pins contains every forms of a coastal
landscape: sandy beaches, crags, pebbled beaches and hidden creeks. Even if
we can differentiate Antibes from Juan-les-Pins easily, the two places stay linked,
especially by art. Indeed, even though they’re mostly famous thanks to the Jazz
Festival, they’re also very liked by big names in the art world who lived there.

Save some film for the stop at Moustiers St. Marie, the picturesque village that sits
at the foot of a 500-foot-deep gorge. It is famous worldwide for its delicate white
and blue pottery. There is a gold star in the middle of an iron chain that is strung
across a 750-foot gap. It was put there by a grateful knight – nobody knows how
– 800 years ago when he was released from capture.
You will have a stop in Aiguines as well.
