Began in 1976 by Dr James Overman, the practice has expanded to include Dr Shawn Sharp, Dr James Meiring , Dr Philip Slonkosky and Dr Tracy Mayers. “Dr Overman started the practice. He laid the foundation we follow,” Dr Meiring said. “We strive to provide the highest quality and most advanced dental care available. We want to treat our patients as we would want ourselves treated. “ With humble beginnings at an office now occupied by the Crescent Motel in Minster, the practice has expanded into nearly an 8000 square-foot facility with 12 operatories divided between the operative care on the north side and the hygiene care on the south side. Some of the many services Minster Dental Care patients have come to expect include CAD/CAM dentistry, digital x-rays, cosmetic procedures, root canal treatment, removable prosthetics, oral surgery, sleep apnea treatment and implant restoration and more. Dr Slonkosky, a board certified pediatric dentist, provides comprehensive pediatric dentistry for children and adolescents, while Dr Overman provides orthodontic treatment. New technology is always at the forefront of Minster Dental Care. The most exciting technology provided is CAD/CAM dentistry. Minster Dental uses CEREC, a machine which scans the tooth optically, allowing the doctors to make a crown from a solid piece of porcelain right in the Minster facility. Now patients can get their crown work completed in as little as two hours, instead of over a span of two appointments. The CEREC machine also allows the doctors to fix partially broken teeth, instead of removing healthy tooth structure. Dr Sharp is a mentor with CEREC and trains other doctors how use the system. “CAD/CAM is here to stay in the field of dentistry,” commented Dr Sharp. “Laboratories have been using CAD/CAM for quite some time. We are one of the few local offices to offer CEREC to our patients. The response has been terrific, people love watching the machine create their restoration. Patients appreciate being able to have their treatment finished in one appointment, instead of multiple appointments. In today’s society, people are so budgeted on time, being able to provide this service is a great asset. ” Minster Dental Care is the only practice in the area to have a board certified pediatric dentist in Dr Philip Slonkosky. Dr Slonkosky provides comprehensive care, including monitoring growth and development of the teeth and jaws. This allows Dr Slonkosky to identify problems at an early age, which can lead to easier treatment. “My number one goal is to help the dental experience be as comfortable as possible for the child,” indicates Dr Slonkosky. “If fear or child behavior presents a concern, we offer oral sedation, and if needed IV sedation can be used to ensure safe comfortable care.” Since introducing CEREC technology to Minster Dental Care, Dr Slonkosky has been able to offer pediatric patients esthetic alternatives that were not available a few years ago. “If I could share one bit of advice, it would be to get your child in early for an exam. Age 2 is not too late. The earlier you identify cavities, and risk factors for cavities, the easier it is to contain.” Recently, Dr Tracy Mayers has joined Minster Dental Care. “I met Tracy through her husband Dr Matthew Mayers, who is a local orthodontist,” Dr Sharp said. “ She is a highly skilled clinician having experience as a Navy and Marine dentist. She was working part time due to obligations with her family, and wanted increase her work hours, so we offered her time with our office. We feel she is a great fit for our dental team.” The team performs all of these procedures from their state of the art office, which opened in 2004 and has won numerous awards for being at the forefront of technology while providing a relaxing, pleasing atmosphere for patients. For all five Doctors, the team and patients at Minster Dental Care are family. “Dr Overman was our dentist growing up and when we expressed interest in dentistry he worked hard to make sure we could return to our home town,” indicates Dr Meiring, Slonkosky and Sharp. “I coached Dr Slonkosky in high school track,” says Dr Sharp. “We hit it off discussing dentistry and eventually Dr Slonksoky returned to be with us. It’s a unique and great thing to have all of us from the same town and practicing together.” As for the future, Minster Dental Care looks to expand to offer more specialized services along with general dentist. “We are currently evaluating possible expansion opportunities with our current facility,” comments Dr Sharp. “With the size of our current building, it’s amazing we our thinking of adding more space to accommodate our patients.” Minster Dental Care welcomes new and old patients to visit and share a smile at 4215 State Route 66, in Minster, online at www.minsterdental.com or by phone at 419-628-3380. Thirtyeight years later John passed away and his son, Norman Hull and Manuel Hull became partners to start what is now a recognized leader in farm implement sales, parts and service. The Hulls have been dealers in the McCormick Deering Co., later to be International Harvester Co., since the early 1900’s. The International Harvester Co. was purchased by Tenneco Corp. in 1985. The purchase brought together the International Harvester Co. and Case Farm Equipment Co. "We are committed to being the best farm implement dealer in the area," the Hulls said. " We are keeping our business on the edge of technology and training. " Hull Brothers have received recognition as being one of the oldest International Harvester dealers in the country. Hull Brothers Inc. sells and services farm equipment, lawn and garden equipment, chain saws, and many other items. Recently, they re-surfaced the showroom floor and completely updated the parts department. Hull Brothers has also taken on a full line of Case IH clothing. "We have some of the best employees in the area. Our employees are dedicated to serving our local farmers with the best parts, sales and service departments available," the Hulls said. Norman Hull became the second generation in the business after Manuel Hull died in 1941 and Norman became the sole owner of the company. Hull Brothers first official building was downtown Fort Recovery. You can still see the Hull Brothers name on the building in town. In the 1920’s the Hulls started selling Maytag gas washing machines. Hull Brothers was the oldest Maytag dealer in the world until 2010. In 1947 the business moved way out of town to the location that it currently occupies. In 1951 Richard Hull (Norman’s sec- ond oldest son) became the third generation in the business. Norman Hull Jr. (Norman’s youngest son, also known as “Buzz”) joined the business in 1960. Hull Brothers was incorporated in 1966. Norman Sr. died in 1974 and Richard and Buzz continued the corporation until their retirements. Fourth Generation (Buzz’s sons) Tom Hull and Bob Hull took over the business. Tom passed away in 2009. Shortly after, Tom’s wife Jill joined the business. In 2013 Buzz’s son Dave Hull joined the business with Bob and Jill. Randy Evans (Richard’s grandson) is also a big part of the family tradition. He is the full time AFS technician and IT Technical support. Randy has also come on as a great salesman for the company. Cole Hull (Tom & Jill’s son) and Grant & Lane Hull (Dave’s sons) are considering coming back to help run the family business in the future. "Stop in some time and see all the things we have updated," the Hulls said. "There is always a free bag of popcorn waiting. " The Community Post Thursday, July 30, 2015 Page 13 Wagner's IGA has been serving area for 93 years For more than 93 years and three generations, the Wagner family has owned and operated a grocery store in Minster. This community-oriented business was founded on excellent customer service and quality products — elements that have stayed the same as Wagner's IGA has expanded to three locations in Minster, Fort Loramie and New Bremen. "Our basis has always been our customer service — that's really our foundation," owner Wally Wagner, Jr. said. "Along with quality products at a fair price. I think that's our strength, the more personalized service. It's almost not a business anymore,it's intertwined in the whole community." The tradition of excellence that is Wagner's IGA in Minster began in 1922, when A. J. Wagner opened his first store at 91 W. Fourth St. During these early years, only groceries were sold; meat and produce items were not part of the inventory. In 1932, A.J. Wagner added a 1,500 square-foot meat department. Two years later in 1934, Wagner’s moved to a different location at 40 W. Fourth St. and produce was added to the groceries and meats. Wally Wagner Sr. came home from the armed services in 1946 to join his father in the growing business. In 1952, another 1,200 square 257 Fourth St. Minster 419-628-3534 feet were added, allowing the grocery department to expand. Wagner’s IGA moved to its current location at 257 E. Fourth St. in 1979 — nearly tripling the store's size to 7,500 square feet — and allowing the addition of deli and bakery departments. In 1979, Wally Wagner Jr. also made the decision to take on the family business after attending The Ohio State University. The store underwent many expansions and additions throughout the years since, including the addition of 5,000 square feet and a fresh seafood department in 1986 and an 8,000-square-foot expansion in 1990. Wagner's IGA saw its largest expansion in 1997, when 12,000 square feet was added to the building. This addition allowed for dry cleaning and a Minster Bank branch. "We started out here in 7,500 square feet and now we're at 32,500," he said. "We have added on to the store three times and we've always continued to offer more services and more departments." In 2003, Wagner opened a new, 8,900-square-foot market in Fort Loramie, which offers groceries, dairy, frozen foods, a hot deli, fresh meat and produce along with a Subway sandwich shop. The Minster location underwent an extensive remodeling in 2007, 444 S. Washington St. New Bremen 419-977-3537 which expanded the produce department, adding specialty cheese, beer and wine. "I feel the store is at a really nice size for this community and this area," he said. That continued expansion and growth took Wagner's to New Bremen in November 2013. "Things are going really well for us in New Bremen. The store really came out as we had planned," said Wagner. The new store includes the quality products and customer service as the other two locations, along with a community room where area residents can gather for meetings or socialize and a café. The stores feature Wagner's Signature Recipe products, made from the store's own recipes that ensure a high quality and taste for consumers. Wagner said his stores are adding more and more organic and natural items to their product lines. 200 S. Originally called Schoen Building & Supply, the business primarily focused on building new houses. Eventually, the focus of the business became the interior of homes and businesses, concentratingoncustomcabinetryand countertops. In the mid-eighties, the business changed its name to Home Idea Center and moved into the old Les Wenning Ford building on Butler Street in Fort Recovery. This housed the shop area and a new showroom. In 1997, Home Idea Center moved yet again into a brand new building and showroom in the Fort Recovery Industrial Park, where it is still located today. In the fall of 2002, Dan’s son-inlaw and daughter, Travis and Stacy Laux purchased Dan’s former partner, Gary Steinbrunner's, portion of the business. Around the same time, a stateof-the-art CNC machine was purchased to enable Home Idea Center to automate more internal processes. Currently, Dan and Travis both handle sales and design and Stacy performs all office -elated tasks. Home Idea Center employs a total of 12 people. With a sales staff that prides itself on thorough product knowledge, and an install / service crew that is known as the best in the business, you know you are getting the best overall quality product at a great value every time. Moeller door & Window’s product expertise is specialized in residential / commercial garage doors, operators, rolling steel and fire doors, residential and commercial entry doors, glass aluminum and storefront entry doors, glass shower doors, new construction and replacement windows, and any type of service related to these items. The company has evolved greatly in the past 28 years. From a humble beginning that started in the laundry room of their home in 1987, Pat and Sue Moeller have always had the vision and work ethic that serves as the base of what the company has grown to today. In the early years of business Pat’s product offerings were limited to garage doors and entry doors, but the company has made it a point to always be aware of the needs of contractors, businesses, and home owners. This has been the force behind what their expansive product line is today. In 2012, Moeller Door & Window took a big step and went into manufacturing and pre-hanging their own residential entry door line. Pat Moeller Sr. states “We were getting tired of poor quality provided by our entry door vendors at that time, so we decided to be our own vendor and make entry doors for ourselves. We are in complete control of the quality of the components in the entry doors and also the craftsmanship of the product as well. We also have more control of the lead time of our products by manufacturing the entry doors ourselves.” The growth that the company has seen since 2012 has made them take their next big step as they are preparing to move their operations to a brand new facility. “We are excited to announce that we will be moving to a larger facility to meet the demands and expectations of our consumers. Our current facility has served us well over the years and offered a lot of great exposure for us. Our focus is to continue to grow by offering the same high quality prod- uct and service that we always have; we would just like to do it more efficiently”. Construction for the new facility is slated to begin this fall and continue through next year. The new Moeller Door facility will be located directly across the road on the South West corner of US route 127 and State Route 119. “With the move we will be giving another business the opportunity to blossom at a great location. We are looking for an ambitious company to purchase or lease the building that houses our current showroom which also offers a good amount of storage. We feel there is no better spot to put a business in Mercer County”. Interested parties are asked to contact Moeller Door and Window. Moeller Door & Window can be reached by visiting our showroom located at 2015 US Route 127, St. Henry, OH., or by calling 419-9254748, or by emailing [email protected]. The Community Post Page 16 Gilberg Furniture: New Bremen icon for 89 years Gilberg Furniture, located south of New Bremen on State Route 66, is one of the oldest businesses in New Bremen, with humble beginnings as The People's Radio and Gift Shop in 1926. Paul Gilberg and Earl Hegemier founded the radio and gift shop, originally located in the John Blase building on Washington Street, which is now part of the Marathon gas station. The name was later changed to Gilberg and Hegemier, and in 1929, the business moved to 5 N. Main St., which was previously occupied by the Don Houts Restaurant. In 1960, Wesley Howell purchased and demolished the building at 5 N. Main St. to expand his grocery store, so Gilberg and Hegemier purchased the former Schulenberg Store in January, 1960 and relocated. The two-story-tall building was renovated so more display space could be made available, and several years later, the lease to Woodman Hall was purchased to add another furniture display. Earl Hegemier sold his interest in the business to the Gilbergs in 1962 because of ill health. The business' name was then changed from Gilberg and Hegemier to Gilberg Furniture. Then, in 1970, John and Joyce Gilberg purchased Paul and Pauline's share of Gilberg Furniture and became the owners. As the years went on, the store outgrew its space yet again and moved to its current building just off Ohio 66 in New Bremen in 1997. Gilberg Furniture continues to offer quality furniture, bedding (featuring Tempur-Pedic) and accessories, the full line of Hunter Douglas Blinds and shades, custom window treatments and bedspreads. The store also offers in-home interior design services, free laya-way, delivery and set-up and special financing terms. The store's main upholstery lines are Smith Brothers of Berne, Broyhill and Lane Furniture. All of which are customizable, in which the customer can choose his or her own fabric. With three qualified interior designers on staff, Jill Borkowski and Helen Koesters and Cassandra Monnin, Gilberg Furniture can help you create the room or rooms of your dreams. Gilberg Furniture continues to strive to keep up with the latest decorating trends, and are continuously renovating and updating the store to reflect these trends. Colors and styles are always changing within the store. "Gilberg Furniture takes pride in offering quality products at affordable prices and quality customer service before and after the sale," said Jill (Gilberg) Borkowski, third-generation co-owner. "Only because of the support of the people of the surrounding area, which reaches for many miles, has it been possible for Gilberg's to continue to grow and be of service to the community." Borkowski also credits the Gilberg Furniture employees, Helen Koesters, James Gilberg, Diane Gilberg, Joe Borkowski, John Gilberg, Jared Gilberg, Jacob Gilberg, Joyce Gilberg and Cassandra Monnin, as well as Marilyn Poeppelman in housecleaning, for their continued success. Most of the employees at the store are Gilberg family members, Borkowski noted. Gilberg Furniture will be celebrating its 89th anniversary this year. The Gilberg family invites you to stop by and visit their store or visit them online at www.gilbergfurniture.com. Thursday, July 30, 2015
