Dear Members & College Football Friends:
The National Football Foundation experienced another exceptionally successful year in implementing
our efforts of Building Leaders Through Football, culminating with another sold-out crowd gathering in
the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on Dec. 9, 2014 for the 57th NFF Annual
Awards Dinner. For the eighth consecutive year, we expanded into the adjacent room to accommodate
the overflow demand to be part of this marquee event, and the honorees continue to represent a long
list of our country’s finest leaders who have taken our national stage.
What follows is a photo collection of those honored and those who paid tribute to the honorees by
attending the event that night, as well as photos from several other National Football Foundationrelated events surrounding the 2014 football season. We hope that looking through the magazine will
bring back happy memories for those who participated while inspiring others to attend in the future.
Mark your calendars for Dec. 8, 2015 and the 58th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, which promises to be

The Gold Medal
The Gold Medal
Established in 1958, The Gold Medal, The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame's highest honor, recognizes outstanding individuals with unblemished reputations who have contributed significantly to the sport of college
football and the welfare of our country. Global humanitarian Dr. Tom Catena and
NFF Vice Chairman George Weiss became the 60th and 61st recipients of the
NFF Gold Medal on Dec. 9, 2014. Catena, a former All-American nose guard at
Brown University, established the Mother of Mercy Hospital in the Nuba Mountain region of Sudan along with Bishop Macram Gassis. As medical director and
sole physician, Catena refused to evacuate during a severe malaria outbreak,
stating that as the only doctor in the only hospital in the region, he could not
leave in good conscience. During Weiss’ 45 years with the NFF, he has helped
negotiate the location of all of the sites of the College Football Hall of Fame and
has been a key part of many of the organization’s premier initiatives. Catena
and Weiss join a prestigious list of honorees that includes:
• Seven U.S. Presidents
• Four U.S. Generals
• Three U.S. Admirals
• 28 Corporate CEOs and Chairmen
• One U.S. Supreme Court Justice
• Jackie Robinson, John Glenn, John Wayne and many others.

2014 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, Presented by Fidelity Investments and Campbell Trophy Finalists
Launched in 1959 and celebrating its 56th class of honorees, the NFF ScholarAthlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, have awarded $10.7 million
to 804 top scholars and community leaders. Each scholar-athlete receives an
$18,000 postgraduate scholarship, and the William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments and hosted at the NYAC, recognizes one member
of the class as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the country and
increases the winner’s scholarship to $25,000. Duke Academic All-American and
All-ACC linebacker David Helton claimed the 25th Campbell Trophy in 2014. Candidates for an NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award and the Campbell Trophy

Dr. Kenneth Cooper Inducted in Dallas
Induction was Kickoff Event for CFP Championship Weekend
Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH was the latest inductee into the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame. The
“father of aerobics” and internationally renowned pioneer of preventive medicine, Dr. Cooper was
honored Jan. 8 at the Omni Dallas Hotel as the kickoff event for the College Football Playoff (CFP)
National Championship weekend. Dr. Cooper’s induction marks the launch of a new tradition, and
each year the NFF will stage an NFF Leadership Hall of Fame event in the host city of the title game.

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame staged several
major events leading up to the inaugural College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship, which saw No. 4 Ohio State beat No. 2 Oregon, 42-20,
on Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. On Jan. 9, the NFF announced
the 2015 College Football Hall of Fame inductees in front of the national
media assembled at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel to cover the title game.
NFF Chairman Archie Manning and CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock joined
ESPN studio host Rece Davis to make the announcement. Brian Bosworth

The announcement marks a new tradition, and the NFF will annually unveil
the newest inductees before the title game at the media hotel in the host
city, which will take place in Glendale, Ariz., in 2016 and Tampa, Fla., in 2017.
