Lifelong and Vacation Learning

Chautauqua in JUNE
Get ready for summer and learn a new hobby or skill during Chautauqua in June,
a three-week learning festival, June 3-23, 2011, held in the tradition of lifelong
learning. Learn gardening techniques like how to propagate wildflowers, tubers
and perennials, how to grow mushrooms or garlic, or how to plan a cottage garden with an authentic Cotswold cottage as the classroom.
Take a lesson in improving tennis strokes, or how to sail.
Expand culinary talents with local foods, wines, and brews.
Register for a class specifically geared towards leisure learning.
The three week schedule includes themed experiences in Home and Garden
Techniques, Creative and Cultural Arts, Sports and Recreation,
and Culinary, Wine and Beer.
Classes are held in both indoor and outdoor settings across Chautauqua County.

“A Day in the Garden” Propagating Iris & Daylilies

A hands-on day in two gardens to learn propagation and care of daylilies and iris. Participants will explore day
lilies in the morning at Nass Daylily Farm, followed by lunch with wine from Johnson Estate Winery. After lunch, the group will travel down the escarpment one mile to the winery, where there will be a brief demonstration of iris division and culture and again an opportunity to divide and replant iris on the farm.

Environmental Landscaping to Protect Lake Ecology

Do you live on a waterway? Everyone impacts the watershed. Learn how to assess your lakeshore or water
shed yard. Select plants to achieve objectives of creating a beautiful yard, enhancing water quality, and habitat
functions that your landscaping can provide as part of a healthy watershed. Participants will learn about site conditions, characteristics and uses of various plant materials, while participating in hands-on activity to enhance the shoreline of Midway State Park on Chautauqua Lake.

“Ditch the workout, Join the Party” A fun easy-to-follow Latin inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness class. Class is appropriate for beginners but experienced Zumba participants can step it up as they want. Class is
