Welcome to Chautauqua County, NY - the World’s Learning Center. For
over 137 years, Chautauqua has been a destination for lifelong and vacation
learning, a place that engages the mind, body and spirit. Located in southwestern New York State, Chautauqua County is home to five lakes, vineyards
and wineries, museums honoring great men and women from the 19th and
20th centuries, and the renowned Chautauqua Institution and the Lily Dale
Assembly, two century-old summer lakeside learning traditions. Interstates
90 and 86 traverse the region and conveniently link Chautauqua County to
Buffalo/Niagara Falls, Erie, Rochester, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, all within a
three hour drive.

on land, water, and ice
With five lakes, 200 inches of average annual snowfall and four full seasons,
Chautauqua’s sports and recreational opportunities abound. Plan a fishing
contest. Tee off on either of the only two 36-hole golf and learning centers
from Cleveland to Rochester, renowned for national competitions. Set sail on
the lake with experienced instructors and annual regattas. The Jamestown
Ice Arena offers twin pads for up and coming figure skating champions as
well as professional hockey teams and tournaments, while college sports
facilities, and track and soccer fields offer numerous settings for indoor
and outdoor competitive events.
