Five Reasons to Enrich Your Life
with Adult Education
Reason #1: Boredom
Hanging around the house with nothing to do?
Why not take a class? A cooking class could give
you the excuse you need to entertain more, or a
photography class could help you get more out of traveling.
Reason #2: Learn About Something Useful
Do you wish you didn't have to pay an accountant to do your
taxes every year? Need to brush up on Microsoft Excel? Enrolling
in a course allows you to take the time you need to learn the
skills necessary to
complete tasks on
your own in your

class with a friend or
two is a good excuse to get together and share your work. Need
some quality time with Mom? Take a Yoga class and enjoy all the
healthful benefits for the body and mind. Or try your hand at
improving your computer skills with your fiancé, and you could
make your own wedding invitations.
Reason #4: Meet New People
An adult education class is a great opportunity to meet others in
your community. Networking, sharing ideas and interests,
lending support are just some of the by-products of participating
in an adult ed class.

Reason #5: Improve Yourself
There's nothing like the feeling you get when
you acquire a skill. Whether you learn how to
speak Spanish, make a gourmet meal, play an
instrument, or write a novel, the sense of
accomplishment you'll feel will truly enrich your
relationships, your job performance, and your
life.
If you would like an academic experience without the
requirements or time commitment of earning a degree, you may
wish to consider an enrichment course. Enrichment courses differ
from traditional coursework in that they do not carry academic
credits or curriculum requirements, nor do they ultimately lead to
a degree.
Our wide range of classes provide the unique opportunity for you
to begin your personal renaissance – whether you are looking to
broaden your horizons, meet new people, enhance your
marketability, prepare to go back to school, find a creative outlet,
or just try something new. Best of all – our classes are designed to
accommodate both your unique learning style, and your busy
schedule!

Information Overload.
Do you ever just feel like there is too much
information out there?
We're in the business of educating, which used to be primarily
about acquiring skills and soaking up knowledge. But how full
can we get? Is there a physiological limit to the number of skills
any one body can possess? Is there a knowledge saturation
threshold? I don't have the answers to these questions, but I
have some hypotheses. I'll have to do some research...
Which brings me to my point. The world of education has added
as one of its primary missions the development of information
processing, critical thinking, decision-making, communication,
and innovation. In addition to the 3 R's, there is a new
assortment of literacies to teach: written, oral, numeric,
financial, visual, employment, and
digital literacy. With so many services

the members of
our community?
This has left me wondering, is the
content of our catalog really accessible
to all of the members of our community at large? Or is it
information overload? Are we really giving you the right kind of
information you need? Is it organized in an easily digestible
format? While I don't think the answer to these questions is a
resounding No, I do think we can serve you better. Here’s how. 

Enter The Learning Link.
Welcome to the first issue of The Learning Link, our new
periodical that will replace our catalog. As you flip through the
pages, you will see a combination of articles, charts,
advertisements, lists, and images. The content is organized
around the major programs we offer, providing you with a quick
snapshot, an explanation, and some details at a glance. This
allows you to utilize The Learning Link in several different ways:
browsing at your leisure, deeper study, or as a quick reference.
Additional information about each course and program we offer
is available on our website at www.wiscassetadulted.com.
In direct response to information overload, a new form of
expository text has been developed for new media, called
Visually Differentiated Text (VDT). You will see in these
articles, as well as in other

The Case for Cultural Enrichment
Cultural Enrichment is not a frivolous endeavor. Quite the

the movements at your own level of comfort. This is not an
exercise class, but a unique and extremely effective way to
improve your movement potential.
