You will learn about washes, how to handle your brush and other techniques that will help you create your own beautiful painting. Mondays, Jan18-Feb 22, 1:00p.m.-3:30p.m. Learn the basics of your media, including: brush and color choices, differing painting surfaces and how to prepare them, palette organization, basic design and composition and how to simplify the successful completion of several paintings. Values, composition, brushwork and especially seeing color relationships will be our major focus. You will be given the skills necessary for continued independent learning. If you have studied with this instructor before, the structure of this class is all new and redesigned for individual artistic growth. Learn the craft of drawing from life as a foundation for serious figurative work. Create a convincing pictorial representation of the human figure. This is a 2 evening workshop that allows you opportunity to study and sculpt from a live model. In the first evening: construct a simple wire armature that will support the sculpture (just like our bones support our bodies). The second: sculpting with a model. Using oil based clay, perfect for study and suitable for casting in bronze. Thursdays, beginning January 21, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm How to Draw the Face and Head Dana Aldis $175 Learn the basic techniques and principles of Portrait Drawing in this 2 day workshop. Drawing of the head structure, proportions and anatomy will be discussed and demonstrated. Working from observation, students will create both quick sketches and one or more finished drawings. The finished drawing will encompass both the structure and proportions of the head as well as development of light and shade through value and shading techniques. Come expand your skills as we make hand decorated paper during the first session. Then incorporate that paper into two handstitched books - one bound with the ancient Coptic stitch; the second with long-stitch binding. Both deceptively easy, with stunning results.
