Eid Mubarak
Eid-Al-Adha is one of the major holidays of Islam. It celebrates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his own son
Ishmael when he was commanded to show his commitment to ALLAH. On this day, large feast is the high point of
the day. The name Eid Al-Adha, means "The Feast of the Sacrifice." An animal is sacrificed, in much the same way
that Abraham sacrificed a lamb. One-third of the meat is given to the poor. Children get gifts on the holiday, and
special prayers are said throughout the day.

My name is Saana Batool, and I am currently studying in Delia Memorial School (Glee Path). I
am a Form 3 student. I got to know about HOME Centre through my friends and relatives. I came
here to register as a member and volunteer. After that I learnt so many interesting programmes
here, like volunteer training, make-up class, cooking class, and outings. The classes inspired
me to think clearly of my hobbies and interest, which guide me in making better choice for the
future career. The outings were full of fun as I met so many people of different ethnicities. I
made friends with them and learnt more about their cultures. I am glad to participate in so many
programmes here. Although now I get busier with school and extra-curricular activities, I still
look forward to the upcoming programmes.

心及在深水埗成立分中心，為少數族裔人士提供一系列的支援服務，以促進種族和

to Nepal in late Aug and received generous

Urbashi Hello everone ! ... I am Urbashi Limbu currently working at
HOME Centre (SSP) as a Programme Worker for a month now.
My experiences until now has been pleasant working with people
from various cultural background I think it is very essential for an
individuals personal and professional growth. Being my first time
working with the Ethnic Minority community, I keenly look forward to
have an enriching experience working in HOME Centre while at the
same time contributing to meet the goals and objectives of the center.
Lastly, thanks to all the staffs for being so warm and welcoming.

Maaryah Hello, My name is Shaheen Maaryah. I am the

Anisa Hello everyone! It’s me Anisa. I am a new staff to this lovely HOME
Centre.In my two months of work here I have learnt a lot and had a

HOME Centre has held a number of group activities for the Graduation
Day Camp of Man Kiu Association Primary School. The students
gained a memorable experience from their active participation and
cooperation. It also showed the deep friendship built up in their
primary school life.
HOME Centre為閩僑小學的畢業營舉辨了一系列的團體活動，同
學們在過程中都十分投入、互相合作，在北潭涌渡假營度過了

Workplace Cantonese 職業廣東話
Workplace Cantonese was a class focusing on teaching job related
issues. As the class was conducted in Cantonese, speaking and listening
skills were taught to equip students with skills for work.

學員在聆聽和說話的能力，提升他們在職場以廣東話溝通的能力。

Bureau conducted an orientation talk at

fraud aiming at reducing the opportunity of

青少年廣東話課程
In this six-session Cantonese class
designed specifically for EM youths,
participants learnt basic conversational
Cantonese. The course helped them to
better communicate with local population
and integrate into the community.

話。課程的目的是提升參加者的廣東
話溝通能力，使他們可以融入社區。

香 港 警 務 處 - 商 業 罪 案 調 查 科 在 HOME
Centre (YTM) 進行了一個有關求職騙案
的講座，目的是減低市民成為受害人的 Parents and their children paired up to learn Cantonese in a fun way.
機會並且減少罪案造成的損失。
Moreover, their relationship also got improved through taking part in
the parent-child activities in every session.
Family Outing - Stanley and the Peak
赤柱山頂遊
在這個工作坊中，少數族裔的小朋友和父母們一起以有趣的方
法學習廣東話。而且，每一節的親子活動亦有助加強他們的親
子關係。

a family outing to Stanley and the Peak on

In the six-session of table tennis class, participants had an opportunity
to expose to a new sport and train their skills in table tennis.
Moreover, the class also served to facilitate the participants to explore
their potentials and develop their support network.

Pakistan:
Shalwar kameez is the national
dress of Pakistan. Shalwars are
loose pants designed in various
styles.
The shalwar is tied at the waist
with the help of a drawstring.
More recently, elastic is also used
in place of drawstring.
The kameez is large and loosefitting tunic. Men as well as women
wear the same attire, with a difference in the color of the
cloth, fitting, silhouettes and the embellishments used.
Due to the long, shared history that the country shares with
India, there is quite a similarity in the dressing patterns
when comparisons are made in certain regions

Traditional Indian clothing for
women in the north and east are
saris or ghagra cholis and lehengas,
while many south Indian women
traditionally wear sari. Sari that are

mentioning the Newar clothing
which is worn by the indigenous
people of Kathmandu Valley
and surrounding regions. The
garments are associated with
the old aristocracy, merchants, farmers, craftsmen and
professionals. Most of the clothes are made of homespun.
Men’s common costume consists of a long shirt called

tapalan and tightfitting trousers known as suruwa. Women

Indonesia:
Indonesian men generally wear
sarongsin at home. In public,
the sarong is worn only when
attending Friday prayers at the

shirts with trousers or teluk beskap,

jacket and sarong. Indonesian
women wear the kebaya, a
beautiful, figure-hugging embroidered blouse worn with a
batik sarong that is usually dyed with flower motifs and in

hair into a bun, or attached a false hairpiece. In addition,
they may drape a long stretch of cloth, called “selendang”,
over one shoulder. This cloth can be used as a head shawl
or on less formal occasions, used to carry babies or objects.

Philippine:
The official national costume
of Filipino men is the barong
Tagalog. The upper garment is a
barong.
It is worn over a Chinese collarless
shirt called camisa de Chino.
Traditional wide-brimmed hat
salakot is also worn, which is usually made of rattan or
reeds.
The official national costume of Filipina women is the baro
at saya. The baro is the top blouse. The saya is the skirt.

Hong Kong:
Traditional Chinese clothing is
broadly referred to as hanfu
with many variations such as
traditional Chinese academic
dress. Men wore Chinese Suit. It
is a combination of the Manchu
male jacket of the Qing Dynasty
and the western style suit. It is
usually straight collared, with
coiled buttons down the front.
Its color and design are in
traditional Chinese style but tailoring is western. Cheongsam
originated from the Manchu female clothes. It evolved by
merging with western patterns that show off the beauty of
a female body. Its features are straight collar, strain on the
waist, coiled buttons and slits on both sides of the dress.
Materials used are usually silk, cotton and linen. Cheongsam
is the most popular Chinese attire in the world today.
