South African Branch-DURBAN Implements of Quality ~ ..- ~o-~~c . {fl1-,~~ji;Y ORiGINAL MASSEY WORKS AT NEWCASTLE IN 1841 '\~ . ~E name "MASSEy-HARRIS" has become synonymous for all that is best in farm implements the world over. It has set the standard of quality by which all implements are judged. This unique position is the outcome of steady growth and a rich experience over a period of eighty years. From very small beginnings the Company has grown until now it is the largest makers of Farm Implements in the British Empire. Its activities spread to almost every' country in the world, and wherever grain or other crops are ~rown Massey-Harris Implements will be found in use. This steady growth has beep due entirely to the high quality of the machines bearing the name "MASSEy-HARRIS" and the long service and satisfaction they have given to users. The Company has also earned a world-wide reputation for fair dealing with its customers, and ltS service, both in connection with machines in the field and the supplying of repair parts is unexcelled. ~~.d h b.~IS . =-- - -" I ~..==. ~II, Service Unexcelled ,. Its line of machines and implements is also replete with almost everything that is used on the farm from scufflers and walking plows to tractors and reaper-threshers. The passion, and passion it may well be termed, that surged through the hearts and minds of the founders and men responsible for the conduct of the business in earlier days, for turning out machines of such a quality as brought worldwide acceptance of them and demand for them, still rules the policies of Massey-Harris today. Never before was such skill employed in the designing and developing of machines for the farm. The factories today are equipp~d with the latest and most up-to-date machinery for the production of farm implements, and these factories are manned by men of training and experience, a great many with a life-experience in the making of Massey-Harris Implements. It is with great confidence, therefore, -that the Company offers its present line of implements and machines to the farmers of the world, believing that they are not only up to the usual Massey-Harris standard but just a little better than ever. ~ '"~''~ -=-~ .~'~~ ~\\\, ~''' d :,I~I, 3j/b .:/. ORIOINAL HARRIS WORKS AT BEAMSVlLlE IN lSY Massey-Harris ~ Ser'JIice ~ ~ One of the greatest contributing factors in the success with which Massey-Harris Company has met is undoubtedly the thorough, and efficient service it renders to its customers. BRANDON It has never been content simply to' make and sell machines, no matter how good they may have been, and leave the customer to his own devices to get the most from them and keep them in repair. Always, has it had a strong organization throughout the land, which has followed the machines into the field, seen to it that they were properly set-up and has at all times been prepared to render helpful assistance. Spare parts for every machine, no matter how long ago it may have been made, and whether or not it is now considered obsolete, are kept on hand at branch offices, warehouses and local agencies in every part of the country. SWIFT CURRENT 'f) ~, The illustrations on these pages show the branch houses throughout Canada; these are supplemented with warehouses in other large centres and in almost every town or village there is a local Massey-Harris Agent. The Company reaches out to every farmer and every farmer has easy and direct access to the Company t,.hrough its own agents. There is no divided responsibility in the selling of Massey-Harris Implements. Every machine is sold direct to the farmer by the Company through its own Local Agent. This net-work of service stations throughout the country enables Massey-Harris to render a service that is invaluable to its farmer customers. The service rendered is second to none, and is a matter of company pride, jealously guarded by all on whom it depends. ~ ~ SASKATooN ~ EVERY LOCAL AGENCY IS A SERVICE STATION EDMONTON VANCOUVER ---- (. .!. Also our patented eccentric octa~onal washer for r~ula tin~ the rake Massey-Harris New National No.8 is a very strongly made Gang Plow, especially adapted for sod and stiff clay lands. The frame is of channel steel, well braced, and the plow is exceptionally light and easily handled. If romng coulters are desired, the design allows ample room for them to be placed where they do most effective work. The standards are 1 in. higher, giving more clearance. Wheels have removable hubs and screw grease caps by means of which grease can be forced to every part of the bearing. Perfect lubrication is thus secured and all dust is excluded. Special attention is drawn to the new style Mouldboard which turns over and packs better. It will turn 8, 8;!1 or 10 in. furrows perfectly and without doubt is the lightest draft two furrow plow on the market to-day. The New No.8 is fitted with a third lever (for widening furrow wheel and keeping furrow straight), knife coulters (rolling coulters as shown in illustration, extra), two extra cast shares and wrench, unless otherwise ordered. It has been brought to a high point of perfection and will be found to meet the requirements of Western Canada better than other makes. Beams Dropped for Correct Draft ,. The beams are dropped well down for easiest draft and are strongly braced. The draw bar is a heavy angle iron securely bolted and rivetted. Both vertical and evener clevis are all-forged steel. They are adjustable and swing either way. Equal Traction on All Wheels The wheels, being placed exactly the right distance apart, give perfect balance. This gives positive assurance of equal pressure on all wheels. The rear wheel acts like the rudder on a boat. It can [be set so as to relieve the landside of all friction. The friction becomes "rolling" rather than "sliding" thus lightening the draft and saving landside wear. Strongest Wheels Any Plow ordinarily found on plows, make the strongest wheel put on any plow. The spokes, which are staggered for greater strength, are securely held at the hub and the outer end is rivetted into the tire. Hub boxes are extra long. The land axle is reinforced at the corner with malleable elbow and has a cushion spring. Furrow Axle Adjustable Long Wearing Rolling Coulter The rolling coulter is supported by two extra large cone collars which revolve in hardened cups. The cones may be taken up to provide for wear-thus true running is always assured. On The tires are of heavy half oval steel and the large round steel spokes, of which there are more than is Strong .~., to Width The furrow wheel is easily adjustable to the width desired and the adjustable brace takes the side strain. The rear wheel is solid. It is held rigidly in line by a rod till the horses begin to turn. It is then automatically released. Bracing-Good Clearance .;. .!. A Combination Clod Crusher, Roller, Pulverizer and Packer That Saves Time and Labor and Increases Production , The Machine consists of two gangs, each of which is made up of a number of wheels that are so shaped that their faces form alternating series of sharp ridges and cupshaped depressions. The ridges cut down into the soil splitting all lumps with which they come in contact and pack out the open spaces. At the same time, because of the cup-shaped depressions, the surface is left in little ridges of loose mellow earth which form a mulch blanket and retard soil blowing. The result is the lumps to a depth of five or six inches are thoroughly crushed, the soil beneath is firmed down, the surface is placed in excellent condition to receive and conserve moisture, and an ideal seed bed with that continuous connection with the subsoil so necessary to the promotion and sustenance of plant life, is obtained. Can Be Used to Advantage Mter Seeding After seeding, and especially if grain is sown, should the ground become dry and baked the pulverizer may again be used to good advantage. It will pack loose earth about the seed firmly and increase the moisture holding qualities. Then, too, in the spring when the frost has heaved and opened up the soil around the roots of the plants it is especially valuable. Used in the field at that time it closes up the cracks, loosens the crusted surface, tucks the soil about the roots as though they were being transplanted and restores the whole acreage to a good growing condition. Simply Constructed-No Fine Adjustments Necessary And there is nothing to get out of order. All there is to the machine is an angle steel frame, two end standards, the wheels, an axle, a seat and a pole--nothing which will easily wear out or break, and nothing which needs fine adjusting. You can' hitch high or low, long or short, it will always run and do the work for which it is intended. .:, MASSEY-HARRIS-BUILDERS OF GOOD FARM IMPLEMENTS SINCE 1847 Massey-Harris Binder A Rear View of the Massey-Harris Binder. Harvests All Conditions of Crop The work of the Massey-Harris Binder has established for this machine among the grain growers of the world the reputation of being the best binder for all conditions of crops. In fact, it might be said that farmers would concede a crop hopeless if it could not be harvested by a Massey-Harris and time after time the Massey-Harris has successfully harvested crops in which other binders failed and has been the means of saving crops that would have been lost. . Costs Less for Repairs That the Massey-Harris is such an efficient and dependable harvester suggests that it must be well made in every way. Having a stronger frame than any other, and the strongest table construction, the Massey-Harris Binder maintains its alignment season after season and the value of this is evident to the owner in the comparative low upkeep cost and the freedom from making extensive repairs. Even to the binder canvas-there is no binder canvas as strong nor as durable as that put on the Massey-Harris Binder. Saves Money by Using Less Twine The compressor being separate from the weight trip which operates the binding mechanism always assures the Massey-Harris tying the sheaf as tightly as it is compressed, saving on the average about lYz inches of twine on every sheaf. This saving, year after year during the lifetime of the binder, counts up to mean something worth while. Is Light in Draft The strength of the Massey-Harris Binder makes it light in draft, by holding the alignment of the working parts not only for the first year but for many seasons after. The Massey-Harris Binder Frame and table do not spring out of shape during the first two or three harvests, consequently the draft is kept at a minimum. Also the Massey-Harris has more roller bearings than other binders and these play their part in making the Massey-Harris a light and easy running binder. Massey-Harris'\ No.6 Binder .:.
