PRESIDENT’S NOTE
At the committee meeting on 15th Sept 2007 it was unanimously
agree to issue a newsletter periodically that is as and when it is
needed. This is the first issue for the members information.

Customs Verification Import ( CVI ) - was implemented on
1.9.07. Under this system, import consignment will be released
either without any physical examination or with thorough
physical examination ( scanning and 100% ). All members please
take note of this procedure.
2.
BUDGET 2008 - no amendment to circulate.
3.
The following issues which was forwarded to Pengarah
Negeri Johor for discussion was also highlighted in the
SMK meeting which was held in KDRM Putrajaya on
22nd August 2007.

CUSTOMS APPEAL TRIBUNAL ( CAT )
The CUSTOMS APPEAL TRIBUNAL ( CAT ) which was
established on 01/06/2007 is an independent body set up
to hear appeals against the decision of the Director General
of Customs under the Customs Act 1967, Excise Act 1971,
Sales tax Act 1972 and the Services tax 1975.

IMPORT / EXPORT
SEMINAR
Objective : To provide an appeal system which is impartial,
fair, transparent and expeditious for dissatisfied persons to
appeal against the decision of the Director General of customs.
TIME LIMIT FOR FILING APPEAL
Must be filed within 30 days from the date of notifications of
the decision.

SALES TAX ON NONNON-WOODEN PALLET.
PALLET
Effected from 23rd November 2006, sales tax of 10% on
wooden pallets were removed. However other non wooden
pallet are still subject to sales tax.
KDRM had recommended and forward the issue to the Treasury.

1. Kementerian Keselamatan Dalam Negeri ( KDN ) invited
Joffa Committee and Members for a briefing at MSUITES Hotel
on 23.8.07.
The following was highlighted :1. Akta Pencetakan Teks Al-Quran.
2. Akta Mesin Cetak dan Penerbitan 2007.

National Productivity Corporation ( NPC )
The forum on “ Business Practices and Performance in
the Logistics Services ” was held at Selesa Hotel, JB on
8th September 2007.
E-PERMIT BRIEFING
Two papers was presented.
1. IMP and Business Practices and Performance Study presented
by En. Razali from NPC.
2. Customs Act 1967 - A brief overview by Mr. Viknasevaran
from Quality Customs Consultancy ( QCC ).

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)
MCMC Seminar & Exhibition was held on 6th Sept 2007 at
Persada, JB.

1. A Dangerous Good Regulations and safety Awareness workshop
was conducted by DGR Packaging & Supply Sdn. Bhd. on
25th July 2007 to Joffa members at Wisma Joffa

OCBC - “ The power to know and how to better manage your
logistics operations”. This was held on 15th September 2007
at Wisma Joffa for members.

Dagang Net - JOFFA Stake holder Engagement Program was held
on 14th July 2007 at Persada Johor Convention Center for Joffa
Committee Member.

briefing session with PTP’ s management team which was held
on 12th September 2007.

AIR CARGO
1. SATS invited Joffa Committee Members and Air Cargo
Community for a briefing on 16th August 2007 at Eden Hotel
on the new schedule freighter flight with effect on
1st September 2007 from Senai airport to DOHA by Qatar
Airways ( Airbus 330 ).
