Hermès History
•
The adventure of the house of Hermès begins
back in 1837 when young harness maker
Thierry Hermès established Hermès as a
harness workshop on the Grands Boulevards
quarter of Paris, dedicated to serving European
noblemen.
•
Hermès's son, Charles-Émile Hermès took over
management from his father and moved the
shop in 1880 to 24 rue du Faubourg SaintHonoré, where it remains today and where the
new leader introduced saddlery.
•
Since then six generations have expanded the
Hermès craftmanship to many other products,
have conquered new markets and have shown a
future oriented drive for tradition that has made
Hermès to what it is today.
Hermès as a Perfumer

The adventure begins back in 1951
with Eau d'Hermès composed by
Edmond Roudnitska.
The arrival ten years later of Calèche,
the first woman's perfume from Hermès
confirmed this commitment to the art of
perfumery.
In 2004 Jean-Claude Ellena joined the
House to become its exclusive
perfumer.
Shared values, a respect for the inhouse heritage make Elena embark on
an olfactory adventure that brings to life
such perfumes as Calèche, Équipage
or the more recent Eau des Merveilles,
Terre d’Hermès and Kelly Calèche.
The „Cologne“ Collection

The olfactory expression of Cologne,
one of the oldest in perfumery, has
maintained over the years a strong
identity anchored in the predominance
of citrus fruits.

With Eau d’orange verte and the two
new compositions by Jean-Claude
Ellena the Cologne collection tells a
story for each of the three Eau de
Colognes: Eau d’orange verte, Eau de
pamplemousse rose, Eau de gentiane
blanche.

All three tell a tale of a specific plant
and colour as a source of inspiration.
Eau d‘Orange Verte
•
The founding cologne created by
Françoise Caron in 1979 and inspired
by the smell of undergrowth on a dewy
morning, this fragrance stands out for
its freshness.
•
Eau d’orange verte is conceived as an
explosion of citrus notes. Orange plays
the principal role, expressing its
different facets in all their variety:
vigorous zest, sensual blossom, green
leaves…harmonised with mandarin and
lemon, and underscored by a balance
between mint leaves and the fruity
nuances of blackcurrant buds. It
reveals all its complexity in a unique
lasting presence tinged with oakmoss
and patchouli.
