SLIP RESISTANCE – WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT MEANS
There are currently no ‘pass or fail’ requirements for slip resistance testing, but there are some general industry standards.
On a scale where 0.0 is the absence of friction and 1.0 is very high friction (e.g., dry carpet), the higher the score the better the ‘slip resistance.’
For vinyl floors, a surface dry and wet slip resistance value of 0.50 is generally classified as ‘slip resistant.’
For quarry tile floors, while there are no officially established values for slip resistance, the U.S. footwear industry often quotes a value 0.25 to 0.30
minimum, as a safety margin for outsoles tested on greasy, oily, wet and soapy surfaces.
