July 10, 2016 – 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time (C) ROMAN CATHOLIC FAMILY OF DAYSLAND, HEISLER, KILLAM & PARISHES Daysland - Our Lady of the Prairies Church Heisler - St. Martin Church Killam - St. Joseph Church Spring Lake - St. Boniface Historical Church * Strome - St. Peter Historical Church Polska - St. John the Baptist Church * Prague - St. John Nepomucene Church Bulletin QR Code INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY OF SUNDAY “Do this and you will live” – You must love God and your neighbor. The precepts of the Lord are right and give joy to the heart. In today's first reading, we are guided in a very simple manner – OBEY the Lord Your God by observing his commandments – the word that is very near you – in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe. The second reading from Colossians tells us of Christ and gives us the image of the invisible God now reconciled with all things through the blood of his Cross. In the Gospel, the wise of this world put Jesus to the test, wanting to justify themselves only to find justification arrives through MERCY. “Go and do likewise” Have we failed to love and show mercy? Remember we remain works in progress, always needing our Savior at our side for nothing is impossible for Him. Wisdom is present when we heed Jesus’ example and his words: “Do this and you will love”. Yes, it is as plain as black and white! FR. KLER’S VACATION June 28, 2016 – July 28, 2016 Fr. Are you looking for an enriching summer experience for your kids? The Archdiocese operates two camps for young people: Our Lady of Victory Camp at Gull Lake, northwest of Red Deer, and Camp Encounter at Lac La Nonne, northwest of Edmonton. Both offer week-long summer camps for youth, combining outdoor adventure, games and crafts along with Catholic spirituality. For more information, visit http://www.olvc.ab.ca or www.campencounter.com Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace The official development organization of the Canadian Catholic Church is inspired by the values of the Gospel. In over 40 years, Development and Peace has supported 15,200 local initiatives in agriculture, education, and community action in 70 countries in the developing world. Catholic Social Services CSS provides help and creates hope for women and children escaping domestic violence; for men and women challenged by substance abuse and mental health issues; for youth searching for a place to call home; for people living with HIV and AIDS; for families in need of counselling and mediation; and for newcomers to Canada. Diocese of Mackenzie - Fort Smith Our twin diocese in the North is one of the world’s largest in geographical area, and is home to about 28,000 Catholics – more than half the NWT population, primarily Dene, Metis, and Inuvialuit peoples. Distances are great, and resources are few. Our donations support positive projects that help build the spiritual health of the community, whether it’s building or restoring churches, training and supporting pastoral leaders, or helping to fund programs that bring young people, families and communities together. Evangelization of Nations Mission dioceses around the globe receive regular annual assistance through the Pontifical Mission Societies. Our donations support catechetical programs, seminaries, church and chapel construction, the work of religious communities in health care and education, and communication and transportation needs. Needs of the Canadian Church Our contributions help support the work of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The CCCB is involved in national and international areas of pastoral activity, including social justice, ecumenical and interfaith relations, collaboration with Aboriginal Peoples, life and family issues, liturgy, and catechesis. Needs of the Church in the Holy Land The Holy Land Commissariat uses our donations for the protection and upkeep of shrines, basilicas and churches, and to support the shrinking number of Christians in the Holy Land through pastoral work, Catholic schools, and social assistance. Newman Theological College Through its certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs, Newman provides theological education that prepares lay persons and ordained ministers for service and leadership in the Church. Unlike government-funded institutions, the college relies on our donations. Pope’s Pastoral Works When a disastrous flood, earthquake or other disaster strikes, the Holy Father offers financial help to people in the region affected. In the name of Catholics everywhere, he displays Christ’s love and compassion for those who suffer. St. Joseph Priests’ Foundation of Edmonton The Foundation provides a modest retirement income and other assistance as required to ensure the dignified care of archdiocesan priests when they retire or can no longer serve the People of God. St. Joseph Seminary Since 1927, the Seminary has served the Church in Western Canada and beyond, through its specific mission of training current and future diocesan priests. These are the men who will serve our parishes through their preaching and example, their celebration of the sacraments, and their leadership. St. Joseph’s College Our gifts support Campus Ministry, which provides personal and spiritual counselling, peer support, worship services, reflection and discussion groups, interfaith and volunteer activities, and a friendly space for students, faculty and staff at the University of Alberta. Then something stirred within MY being, which caused ME great alarm. Can you be quiet, still, and pause for just a moment, there’s no harm? There’s a path that’s narrow and hardly worn, but it will cause someone to be torn. It leads you to still waters warm, it leads you to the peaceful morn. And there before me shone the light, its brilliance warmed with the very sight. There was no doubt, or fear or dread, just calm, and wisdom, strength and might. Thank You for your presence Abba!
