Newsletter July 2016
ORGHA, PO Box 51186, Livonia 48151 www.OldRosedaleGardens.com Publication Date: July 29, 2016 President’s Press by Dick McLain I know it has been a trying time with the reclamation work on our yards going so poorly. The three streets without work are lucky just get to listen to us complain. Hopefully you can find some comfort in the city government report and in the fact the growing season gives us a chance to get through this. I would like to thank Kim Trujillo for her work recruiting homes to be on the Garden Walk. Also a big thank you goes out to Linda Koloski and Kathy Burnett for the hard work they are doing on beautifying around our new sign at Hubbard (most of it is yet to come) and all of our columns. Please bear with us as we work out a water source at Hubbard. If you want to help let us know. Thanks to the person that has been working on keeping the columns at Arden beautiful. If you have been providing plantings at Arden please contact me, Linda or Kathy. We want to work with you on that effort and thanks. Also if you have provided flags on the Arden columns please call me as we have your flags. The Fourth of July Parade and Picnic was a great success and fun was had by all. Thanks Stacy Jenkins and all the volunteers. We had the best weather this year. Let’s keep that streak going. We have an Ice Cream Social on the 17th of August and movie night on the 10th of September. Don’t forget to thank all our volunteers. Come out and enjoy. Congratulations to Ryan Bieth, you are the newest winner of the ORGHA Scholarship this year! A Big Thank You! June 2016 was an especially busy month for events in Old Rosedale, with three very successful occasions to celebrate!! First our very popular Garage Sale, led by Susie Rooke, then our highspirited Independence Day Parade and Picnic, organized by Stacy Jenkins, and last but not least our elegant Garden Walk, chaired by Kim Trujillo. These events are enjoyed by many and are one of the reasons our neighborhood is so special and provides memories to last a lifetime, but they simply wouldn’t happen without the dedication and enthusiasm of the event leaders and their volunteers. Please let these wonderful folks know how much you appreciate their contributions of time and talent! ORGHA News – July 2016
1 Welcome Our New Neighbors Ladies and Gentlemen of ORGHA; Let me first start by officially introducing myself, as your new Welcoming Committee Chair. My family and I moved to Berwick from Brookfield in December and could not be happier. We have met many of you already. And look forward to getting to know our wonderful Old Rosedale neighbors in the many years to come. There are so many great new families moving into this community. Families like the Hilla’s who come to us from Ferndale just in the last month. John and Zey and their 15 month old daughter Arya, were drawn to Old Rosedale initially because of the close proximity to Zey’s work as an interior architect. One drive through our beautiful historic streets and they knew this was the place for them. The Hilla’s look forward to getting involved in our amazing community activities. And are thrilled that their daughter will one day be attending a Livonia school. John, a bankruptcy attorney (and bass player) enjoys music and strategy boardgaming. While Zey prefers skiing and hanging out with friends. So now, without further ado, please join me in welcoming The Hilla Family. Do you know someone who recently settled in ORG? Please let me know and I will check to see that they would like to be featured in our next Newsletter! Contact me at [email protected] or (313) 8788482. 2 City Government Update Water main reclamation We must have gotten the short end of the stick on this deal. The issue with weeds and no grass, areas missed and sparse seeding, and all were sent to the city, OHM, and the contractor. The city’s response was clear. They have given the contractor a chance and they have failed. (We all knew that already.) The top soil was put down and not seeded in a timely manner allowing the weeds to get started. The hydroseeding was a failure with inadequate seed and coverage due to lack of experience. The contractor had to hire a legit landscaper to kill weeds, prep and reseed and keep it watered at a minimum level. It is like starting over. YOUR JOB: Water to help keep it moist. They will not be able to water as much as it might need. The city is dedicated to making sure the contractor gets the restoration right. So bear with it and hopefully it will look good yet this summer or fall. Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if you have questions or issues. Dick McLain ORGHA City Government Director 7344210957 or [email protected] Scholarship Recipient My name is Ryan Bieth and I will be attending Michigan State this fall. I am not one hundred percent sure, but I believe that I will major in advertising. I watch an obscene amount of television, so I’ve seen my fair share of commercials. Like me, most people hate watching commercials except during the Super Bowl. My goal is to bring the quality of Super Bowl commercials to everyday television. This way there will never be a time people won’t like watching T.V. ORGHA News – July 2016

Once again, Auburndale has surged to the top of the list with 41% of the residents having already contributed! Congratulations! The suggested contribution for 2016 is $30, but as always, any amount contributed is gratefully accepted. We are over halfway through 2016 and we still have a way to go to surpass the 2015 contribution level, so let’s keep those contributions rolling in! Thanks again for your ongoing support!
