Onee of the most mechanically advanced cars on the road today, this supremely elegant saloon has
beenn provided with the most dependably engineered features for safety and smooth, untroubled
performance. .
Thee 3-litre Princess has a six-cylinder, 120-b.h.p. power unit providing a top speed in the region
off 102 miles per hour, while its three-speed gearbox is fitted with semi-automatic overdrive,
enablingg all-day cruising speeds in the seventies to be effortlessly maintained.
Becausee of its high potential speed the Princess has an extremely efficiënt braking system which
includess disc brakes at the front, leading and trading shoe drum brakes at the rear with a pressure
regulatingg valve, and vacuüm servo assistance.
Forr riding comfort and superb road-holding, independent coil spring front suspension and trunnionmountedd leaf springs at the rear are controlled by hydraulic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.

Thiss magnificent car, with its Vanden Plas coachbuilt body mounted on a long-wheelbase chassis, is ideal for luxurious
passengerr transport. I t is splendidly equipped with the latest motoring refinements, such as separate heating for front
andd rear, individual heating control for rear passengers, choice of upholstery, ample interior lighting
(includingg chauffeur's reading lamp), and noiseless-locking doors. I t can be specially fitted to
suitt individual tastes, and if supplied without the partition it becomes a normal saloon.
Thee forward-hinged doors are extremely wide, which, with the low mounting steps
(concealedd by the doors when closed), gives easy entrance and exit, even
forr elderly people. In addition, the positioning of the front seats and the
lightt operation of all controls give remarkable driving visibility and ease of
handling.. A large car of commanding style, the Princess 4-litre Long-wheelbasee Limousine is nevertheless eminently suitable for everyday informal use

fittedd with an interior light and control switch. The lid of
thee compartment can be used as a platform to carry
additionall luggage. The spare wheel is enclosed below
withh access by a sliding panel carrying the rear numberplate.. Both compartments can be separately locked.

Thiss illustration shows the interior of the Standard Princess 4-litre Long-wheelbase Limousine with
enclosedd drive. The front compartment, consisting of a full-width seat with fixed side arm-rests on the
doors,, will accommodate three persons. The front doors are forward-hinged and fitted with swivel,
ventilatingg panels, while the doors to the rear are hinged on the rear pillars to give easy access for passengers
occupyingg the rear or occasional seats. Between the front and rear compartments is a centre partition
fittedd with two sliding windows of toughened plate glass. The occasional seats, which fold away behind
thee front seat, are here seen in the folded position. Heat is provided separately for the front, while the
rearr has a heater situated beneath the rear seat which can be controlled individually by the rear passengers.
Demistingg and defrosting are Standard equipment and a lamp illuminates the stepboard at night. The
foldingg foot-rest shown on the right is extra equipment to ensure perfect comfort for long-distance travel.
Thee Princess 4-litre Long-wheelbase Limousine can seat as many as six people in the rear compartment.
Thee two occasional seats, being set close together, can be occupied by three people. Three people can also
bee accommodated in the rear seat, which has fixed side and folding centre arm-rests. All seats are upholsteredd in foam rubber and are trimmed with hide at the front and cloth at the rear, or hide throughout,
orr cloth throughout, at no extra charge. The interior woodwork is walnut-veneered, and the floors are
coveredd with deep-pile carpet. The illustration above shows an electrically controlled rise-and-fall division
glasss which is available as an optional extra. Radio with control in rear arm-rests and speakers in both
frontt and rear compartments and ventilator windows to the rear quarter-lights are among the many extras
available. .

COACHWORK:: Five/six-seater, 4-light saloon of unitary construction. The polished burr walnut fascia panel has a
topp surface trimmed in black leather and edged with a padded crash-roll and an ashtray recessed in the top surface.
Fresh-airr jets are provided on each side of fascia panel. Instruments are grouped in front of the driver. Glovebox
onn passenger side with lock and magnetic catch, when open the lid forms a table, recessed to hold drinking glasses.
Parcell shelf each side of ash tray. Radio controls when fitted are in the centre of fascia with twin speakers, one
underr fascia and one under rear parcel shelf. Split bench-type front seats each with wide folding arm-rest and
adjustablee for rake, and leg reach on roller-bearing slides. Cushions and squabs are of full-depth moulded foam
rubberr covered with good-quality English leather. There is an ashtray in the back of each front seat with a fold away

Fuell System: Fuel from a 16-gallon (72-litre) rear t a n k is fed by an S.U. electricc petrol p u m p to a Stromberg
carburetter.. A large-capacity 'L'-type air cleaner is fitted. Lubrication System: A pressure gear p u m p forces oil
fromm a fin-cooled cast-aluminium sump to all main, big-end, and camshaft hearings. Each main hearing oil feed
iss supplied from a circular channel cut in the bearing housing, which provides a uniform feed of oil between the
bearingg surfaces. Big-end bearing lubrication, controlled by a special oil feed in the crankshaft, also provides for
jett lubrication of the cylinder walls, while oil from the camshaft front hearings is guided by deflectors, fitted to the

distributorr with automatic advance and retard, assisted by vacuüm control. Cooling System: Circulation is by a
large-outputt centrifugal p u m p with a thermostat to assist rapid warming from cold. A 4-blade fan draws air through
aa patented radiator which prevents the loss of cooling water and anti-freeze either by splash or expansion. Cooling

CHASSIS:: Transmission: Clutch—the 10 in. (0-25 m.) diameter dry single-plate clutch has a spring cushion drive
andd specially compensated linkage for easy pedal control. Gearbox—provides 4 forward speeds and reverse with
synchromeshh on second, third, and top gears. The gears are engaged by a short movement of the control lever on
thee inner side of the steering-column, which has a special safety stop for reverse gear. The gearbox mainshaft is
extendedd in a housing which allows the use of a short propeller shaft and provides additional hearings to give
firmerfirmer positioning for the gears. An automatic gearbox is available a t extra cost. Rear Axle—the semi-floating
rearr axle has hypoid final drive gears to permit the propeller shaft to be underslung, thus allowing a level floor
forr the coachwork. Preloaded taper-roller hearings are used for the pinion and wheel hubs, and the large centre
gearr carrier is welded to strong axle tubes to give exceptional rigidity.

Steering:: The cam gear steering has a ratio of 20 : 1 and provision for taking up wear. The steering linkage is of
veryy sturdy construction and has p a t e n t Thompson tie-rod connections. The 18 in. (-46 m.) diameter steering-wheel,
whichh is adjustable for height, has a cellulose-acetate covering. Power-assisted steering is available at extra cost.
Suspension:: Front—independent wishbone construction controlled by helical coil springs and double-acting
hydraulicc shock absorbers. Metalastic bonded rubber bushes for all wishbone arm hearings except lower outer
hearings.. Rear—long, semi-elliptic springs fitted with zinc interleaves arranged for direct lubrication. The springs
aree mounted on rubber bushes and are controlled by double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers interconnected by an
anti-rolll torsion bar. Brakes: Power-assisted Lockheed hydraulic front and rear operated by pedal, with 2-leadingshoee brakes at the front. Pistol-grip hand brake, mounted under the instrument panel, operates mechanically on the
rearr wheels only. Road wheels: The easy-clean pressed-steel wheels have large chromium-plated centres. The spare

COACHWORK:: Seven/eight-seater limousine, composite construction of timber and metal with separate chassis
frame.. Fitted with burr walnut fascia panel with ashtray recessed in top surface. The instruments comprise speedometerr and clock combined in the centre with the additional instruments grouped each side and switches below.
Twoo cubby-boxes are fitted in the fascia, one with lid on passenger's side and one open on driver's side. Provision
iss made for radio to be fitted in the fascia or in the rear seat arm-rest with twin speakers, one under rear parcel
shelff and the other under fascia panel. A bench-type, non-adjustable seat is fitted to the front compartment, with
aa sliding glass division attached to it, giving complete privacy to the rear compartment. The front seat cushion
andd squab are of good-quality leather on moulded latex foam; the cushion has a spring case. In the rear compartmentt the rear seats are good-quality leather or first-grade West of England cloth on full-depth latex foam on the
cushion,, and latex foam and spring case on the squab; a wide centre arm-rest is fitted and buüt-in side arm-rests
aree also fitted. Close-fitting, folding, occasional seats are fitted covered with leather or cloth oto latex foam. Ashtrayss are fitted to the rear quarters above arm-rests. Fitted carpets to the complete floor with thick feit underlays.
Alll windows are of toughened plate glass and have polished walnut finishers all round. The front doors are
trimmedd in leather and have arm-rests attached. Ventilating windows are fitted, full-drop glasses with quick lift
too driver's door and winder to passenger's door. Rear doors trimmed with leather or cloth, flush-fitting pockets,
andd full-drop winding windows. Concealed hinges on all doors, on front edge of front doors, and on rear edge of
rearr doors. Push-butto n handles with private locks incorporated are used on both front doors and near-side rear
door.. Children's safety catches are fitted to rear doors. The windscreen is a 'V'-type toughened plate glass in a
chromium-platedd brass frame; the rear window is curved toughened glass. Lockable luggage compartment of 15 cu. ft.
(0-433 m. s ) capacity with interior light. The boot lid is hinged at the b o t t o m edge and in the open position is a luggage
carrier—11 cwt. (51 kg.) load. The luggage compartment floor and boot lid lining panel are rubber-covered and also
havee protective moulded rubber strips. Spare wheel carried beneath boot floor with access panel below boot lid.
Centree hinged bonnet with prop stays; lock release from inside car for each side. Chromium-plated bumpers and
over-riders,, front and rear. Windscreen washers fitted. Twin sun visors, interior driver's mirror, heater, demisters,
andd fresh-air circulation. Separate heater is fitted to rear compartment with its own control. Saloon coachwork is
