Psalm 85: 8 Show us, LORD, your mercy; grant us
your salvation.
Option One: The private parking lot at the end of First Avenue is
accessible on Sundays if you have a weekly bulletin on the dashboard of your car.
Remember to take one home this weekend. During the week, this
lot is available to us as spaces allow. You will need the bulletin to
identify you as a legitimate parishioner.

Saturdays and Sundays. On weekdays, parking at the O’Connell
Center is free after 4pm.

STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT -
THE TWENTY FIRST
SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
Happy New Year! No, this isn’t some Christmas in August advertising gimmick. St. Augustine’s parish and student
center gets to celebrate at least three “new years” every year. We celebrate the turning of the calendar on January 1, and we
make resolutions to improve our lives through the year. We celebrate the Church’s new liturgical year with the
First Sunday of Advent around Thanksgiving. Many of us make Advent resolutions to help us celebrate the Christmas season
in a more holy manner .
Being a university community, we also experience a new academic year every fall. We either enroll in or teach new
classes. This, too, is a fresh start, and many of us resolve to study harder or teach better. More importantly, we get to meet
an infusion of new students and faculty to the University of Florida and Santa Fe College. We are especially blessed to have
you join our faith community.
Through the upcoming weeks there will be several welcoming events. Next Sunday, August 28 at the 5:30 pm mass,
Bishop Estevez will celebrate the Red Mass, to ask God’s blessing on our academic endeavors for the year. We especially
invite faculty and students to attend. For the students there is Blast-Off week starting August 22. On October 21 is the second annual Oktoberfest. Of course, you are always welcome to ask about what’s going on in our faith community. The parish web page is an excellent source: http://www.catholicgators.org .
The Stewardship Committee serves the parish in helping parishioners return God’s blessings of time, talent, and
treasure in many ways. There will soon be a registration drive for new and old parishioners. All college-age students are
encouraged to register as independent adults. We encourage everyone to give of their time and talent to the parish and student center via numerous ministries, groups, and events.
To the students’ parents who might be reading this, please consider supporting the parish and student center, which
will be the spiritual and social homes of your students. See http://catholicgators.org/make-a-donation.
It’s a new year. We pray that God will bless us with his Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions as we move forward
in our studies, our careers, and our faith.

Chair of Stewardship Committee

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to “strive to
enter through the narrow gate.” Our call to be
disciples and to follow Jesus demands that we
learn to live for the sake of others. With love
for your neighbors who have nothing, look
around your house to see what furniture,
household items, and clothing you no longer use…and donate it to the St. Patrick Thrift Store. For information to
make a donation, call 352-373-2206. For assistance, please
call 352-222-0588.
Cost $25.00
The Gospel of St Mark is the first to be written but it is practically
the one who is known the least. Why is there such interest to
understand his insights? In what way is Mark’s
writings different from the other three Gospels?
Why is this Gospel so relevant to our own situation?
Come and see! Call (904) 287-2525

Want to Join the Knights?
Our college council is right here at St. A’s parish, Pope
John Paul II -13900 Council, and you can become a
member if you are a practicing Catholic male over 18
years old. Although our council is a “college council”,
we have members representing all age brackets.
Since our student members move on upon graduating,
we are always looking for non-student members to
provide permanence to our council. To join, or if you
have any questions about the Knights of Columbus,
please contact our Grand Knight, Bradley Nartowt at
[email protected].
