MEMBERSHIP IN THE PARISH
All Catholic adults living in the parish, and regularly participating in the Liturgy here, are asked to register in the parish.
Church attendance alone does not make you and your household registered members of our parish family. Registration is
required for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage and enrollment in our religious education programs. To
register, please contact the parish office during regular business hours or pick up a parish registration form which can be
found in the pamphlet rack near the Reconciliation Room.
Please complete the form and either deposit it with your offering in the collection at Sunday Mass, or mail it to the
parish office.
Welcome to our hidden jewel in the Diocese of San Diego.

PARISH OFFICE CLOSED
We had a very full calendar this week with the
Chinese New Year, the 100th Day of School, Mardi
Gras, Ash Wednesday, and St. Valentine's Day!
Our kindergarteners and first graders celebrated the
100th day of school this week by coming to school
dressed as their 100-year-old selves. Look for our
pint-sized centenarians on the St. Kieran Catholic
School Facebook page.
We began the season of Lent with a schoolwide
retreat on Ash Wednesday. We will observe Stations
of the Cross on Fridays at 2:25, led by students,
culminating with Living Stations on Friday, March
18th. We invite our parish family to join us.
Sincerely in Christ,
Patricia Provo, Principal
The Parish Office will be closed on
Monday, February 15th in
Observance of the holiday. We will
Reopen on Tuesday, February
16th.

THE MINIMUM FOR
FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
All Catholics, age 14 and older must abstain from meat on
Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays of Lent. In
addition, on Ash Wednesday and good Friday, Catholics
from age 18-59 fast, limiting themselves to one full meal and
two smaller meals per day. Everyone is encouraged to fast
and abstain.
PRAYER: Catholics are encouraged to pray during Lent,
especially with Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for the
celebration of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.
ALMSGIVING: Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many
Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the
poor the money they saved by eating, drinking, or buying
less as they rely more upon God’s abundant grace.
Community Prayer Opportunities:

(Meet in the Saint Mary’s Youth Room
located near the Hall)

outside Planned Parenthood at

2016 Annual Catholic Appeal
All of us in the Church are called by Jesus to
participate in his mission of teaching, sanctifying
and serving. In the Diocese of San Diego, one
important way in which we do this, year after year,
is through our contributions to the Annual Catholic
Appeal.
All are invited to respond very generously to the
2016 Annual Catholic Appeal. If you for got to
grab an envelope, you can make your contribution
online at www.diocese-sdiego.org or by credit card
or check payable to the Diocese of San Diego.
Thank you for your generosity!
