The Presidential Exhaust
What a great weekend we have had at the end of February! It really does make me think about the opportunity to
get the Corvette out and on the road again. As we finally
move into warmer and better weather for our scheduled
Corvette adventures I wanted to remind all of you to really
give serious consideration to becoming more and more
involved in these activities. We have a good number of
events already listed in our web site and more will be added as we get the information about the car shows, trips
and events that will be available this year. Of course the
Craig Beach, President
St Patrick’s Day Parade is coming up on the 12th of
th
March, then our meeting on the 13 at Ruthie D’s. Both of these are great opportunities to dust off the winter blahs and get your Corvette out on the road again.

We do have a few items to work on as a club. One is that our long time club photographer, Sue Matula, would like to find a member to take on those responsibilities. Sue has done a fabulous job of recording our activities and her pictures have
been valued additions to our newsletter for a number of years now and we really
want to thank her for that. We are really anxious to give Sue a well deserved retirement from that position, but, must have a replacement to take over. I am sure there
is a member with a camera that would be willing to take this spot and enjoy catching those special moments for the club. Let Sue or me know if you can do that.
Another position that we still need help with has been mentioned before and that is
of Interclub Communications. Sue Rosenthal had been continuing that responsibility even after moving back to St Louis but recently resigned. Peggy Sturn, our Secretary, stepped up and assumed those duties so that all of you can continue to be
kept informed of the events and activities of the club. So, Peg is doing double duty
for us and that is too much. Her devotion to duty is admirable but not fair for a long
term situation. Please step up and volunteer to get Peg some relief and give the
club the ability to have the continuing communications that we need to keep everyone up to speed on our activities.

This is a critical function the club needs. We don’t want the screen to go dark.
So, this is time on the launch pad for the upcoming Corvette year. Top off those
tanks with fresh fuel, dust off the cars and let’s get on the road again!

LOCC Secretary Report
Golden Rock Winery—February 21st
The Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club monthly
meeting was held on February 21, 2016, at Golden Rock Winery in Camdenton. President Craig
Beach opened the meeting at 12:35 pm, thanking
everyone for the great turn out on a beautiful day.
Officer reports:
Vice President, Ellen Howery: Membership is
now at 175 members.
Secretary Peggy Sturn: We have 31 Corvettes
here today and 64 people in attendance.
Treasurer, Marlin Hammond:
Beginning bank balance 1/01/16
Deposits
Disbursements
Ending bank balance 1/31/16
$6,597.00
450.00
34.00
$7,013.00
Marlin stated that, while it appears we have a
large amount of money, we will be taking quite a
bit of that for scholarships and other expenses
coming up.
NCM Ambassador, Don Sturn: Don reported
that the block of rooms in Bowling Green is full.
He was able to add 3 more rooms to the block
and has asked for a couple more. Will see if he
gets them. Don has signed up the group for the
track. The track layout will be 3.5 miles for 4 laps.
Will divide group with fastest cars first and split up
into 4-5 cars, which will be better than last year.
All the track facilities are finished so those not
driving will have stands to sit in and take photos.
The sink hole is repaired and exhibits are new at
the museum. If you still want to go, call Don or
contact the hotel directly and see if they will give
you the same rate. Cost of club trip is $24 each or
$20 for NCM members. Craig Beach commented
that they’ve been members for 10 years and just
received a 10-year appreciation plaque from
NCM. He encouraged those who haven’t, to join
and support their operations as much as we can.
Newsletter, Cindy Leigh: Craig Beach thanked
Cindy for the extremely high quality newsletters
she is providing the club.
Webmaster Bob Matula: Bob reported that he
has added the Capitol City show to the events
online and included a link for the registration form.
Day Trip Committee, Bill Kaimann: Bill stated
that the committee has not made any destinations
yet, but will be working on it next month. Keith
LOCC Secretary Report - continued
Suchman spoke to the Ozark Drag Strip in Rogersville, AR, about a club trip there to do track time.
You can race ¼ mile or the 1/8 mile and can make
as many passes as you want. Keith is looking at
going on a Friday around 2p. A show of hands indicated sufficient interest. Keith will find out the costs
and put out an email with details. Let him know if
you are interested.
The microphone was then passed around for
guest/member/car introductions and any February
birthdays or anniversaries. Visitor Danny
McCollum, who was invited by the Dotsons and is
considering joining, was introduced, as well as
Jake Klein, who plans to join the club and his
friend. When the mic reached Pat Pick, she stood
to call out, “Goodnight, Chet!” for this month’s “who
said that” trivia. Lee Ellmaker was the first to answer, David Brinkley.
-Nancy Beach thanked everyone for all the cards
and emails, which meant so much to her.
-Craig Beach expressed the club’s sadness over
the passing of Jim Allen last week. We had 14 club
members at the memorial service on Friday, which
included full military and Masonic rights.
-Craig went on to report that another of our parade
veterans, David Hollingsworth., a USMC-Korea veteran, passed on January 30 at the VA in Kansas
City. He rode with J.D. Caven last September. Another fallen hero we are glad we could spend some
time with.
New Business:
-The club will once again award two $500 scholarships to the Eldon Trade Center and to the LCTC in
Camdenton. Craig read the requirements for the
scholarship recipients and asked for membership
approval. It was moved and seconded to approve
the scholarships. All approved.
-LOCC insurance has come up for renewal. Craig
got a quote from Hagerty to cover general liability
for the club that covers any accidents during the
parades and other public events. There is a new
twist, where it is recommended to add a clause on
terrorism should a terrorist action happen at one of
our events. With all the things happening around
the country, Craig Beach recommends we pay the
extra $100 to cover that clause and asked for a
vote. A show of hands gave approval for Craig to
renew the insurance with the additional clause.

LOCC Secretary Report - continued
-With the various track events planned, Craig
Beach suggested those participating should check
their personal car insurance. Some insurance
policies may not cover you if driving on a race
track; others will cover you if you are not racing for
prizes or in a competition.
-We have maintained a set of 7 heavy scrapbooks
that, since eliminating the scrapbook editor, the
President gets to pass on to the next president.
They are sitting in a box. Does anyone want
them? If interested, Craig can bring one at a time
to the meetings. If not, they will stay in the box.
Also, a stack of photos is being passed around for
you to go through and take any you’d like. Whatever is left will be thrown away.
Upcoming Events:
-Next month’s meeting will be at Ruthie D’s on
March 13.
-St. Patrick’s Day Parade is on March 12th. We
got a room for our comfort while staging at the
Tomahawk Inn. Be there 11:30-12:00. We need
to be lined up by 12:30p for a 1:00p start. Dress
your cars and yourselves in St. Paddy’s attire!
This is a big parade. Be prepared to throw a lot of
candy; there is always a big crowd.
-We have the Corvette Cup show in Columbia on
April 9th. It is a one-day show. You can drive up in
the morning and back that afternoon. Or; you can
stay over; especially, if you feel like you’ve won
something, as the awards are not given out until
that evening at the dinner.
-The 18th annual Central Arkansas Corvette Club
Weekend in Hot Springs is April 21 to 23. Gary
Markus is the trip captain. A good group is going
down there. Gary has sent out several emails with
information; check them out if interested.
-April 27th is the Springfield Cardinals baseball
game where we get to drive our Corvettes around
outfield track before the game. It will be kids’ day,
so there will be thousands of kids there. Details
will be coming out in the next couple of weeks.
-After many years of leading the trip to New Orleans for their Corvette show, Nancy and Craig will
not be sponsoring it this year. The show will still
be on so anyone can still go if they want.
LOCC Secretary Report - continued
-Looking ahead to the December meeting, the
Christmas party will be at Tan Tar A on Dec. 3rd.
We went in early to be able to have the good room
we had last year and to avoid the large events
they’ll have later in the month.
-Ellen Howery announced that she and Larry are
putting together a trip for August 26-28 to LeClaire,
IA, for its Vettes on the River car show. It’s a 325
mile trip. The show is only one-day on Saturday.
LeClaire is the home of American Pickers and is
very quaint with lots of shops. Ellen has reserved a
block of 15 room in Bettendorf, which is 10 minutes
away. Rate is $109 and includes breakfast. They
are in the process of looking at places to eat. If
anyone is interested, Ellen has brochures telling
about LeClaire. An email with all the details will be
coming out soon.
-Denny Pennington was asked by the Magic Dragon committee, which has all new people running it
this year, to pass on to the club their idea to have
all the Corvettes park together in the old elementary school parking lot. They hoped to get more
participation by allowing us to all park together.
Problem is Magic Dragon is May 6-8, which is
Mother’s Day weekend. Plus, the Capital City
show is also that Saturday. Member reaction to the
parking area was mixed, and it was fairly unanimous that no one would be there on Mother’s Day
Sunday. The question of whether we should continue as the judges was discussed. Passing it on to
another car club is an option. Denny stated we are
appreciated and have always had good reviews as
judges and it is enjoyable, so hate to give it up. It
was strongly suggested that the Magic Dragon be a
2-day show or at least have the judging done Saturday afternoon. Denny will carry back to the committee our feedback and will let us know.
Don Wormsley asked to bring up some old business, saying he brought to the meeting and had on
display a letter of appreciation he received from
John Conley along with photos from the veterans
parade he was in shortly before John died.
Don went on to express his opinion that because
the other parades we participate in are put on by
the Bagnall Dam Strip Association, he feels we
have an obligation to be a sponsor for Hot Summer
Nights. He felt the $250 was not a big amount.

LOCC Secretary Report - continued
He then made a motion that the LOCC pay the $250
to be a sponsor for Hot Summer Nights for 2016.
The motion was seconded by Gary Cooper, who
went on to present his personal opinion in favor of
the motion. Don Sturn objected to the vote, stating
the issue had already been voted on last fall and it
was decided we would not be a HSN sponsor for
2016. In spite of that, the vote was taken and the
motion carried.
There were two drawings from the 50/50 bucket.
Lee Ellmaker’s ticket was drawn for the $105 pot.
The second drawing for a bottle of Golden Rock
wine with the club logo label went to Patti Houghton.
Congratulations to Lee and Patti!
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 1:40p.
-Respectfully submitted, Peggy Sturn, Secretary
The St Patrick’s Day Parade in Lake Ozark is on Saturday, March 12, 2016
We will all meet at the Tomahawk Motel on Bagnell Dam Blvd.
no later than 12:00 noon or earlier to decorate
our cars for this great event.
We must be ready by 12:30 and the parade
will begin at 1:00 pm. Wear your best
Greens and bring lots of candy as there
is always a big crowd for this event.
Please email me at [email protected]
to let me know if you will be there as I will
advise the parade officials how many Corvettes
we will have.
As mentioned, we do have a room for the club
to use prior to the parade. This is a
lot of fun and I hope we have a great
turnout. Thanks, Craig

We are putting together a trip for August 26 to
28 going to Le Claire, Iowa for the “Vettes on the River” car show.
This is a one day show in a scenic Mississippi River
town which is the home of American Pickers. 100%
of the profits will go to Vietnam Veterans of the Quad
Cities. There will be plenty of activities planned by
the VOTR committee as well as unique stores, brewery, distilling company and winery to browse through.
We have set up a block of 15 rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bettendorf, Iowa at $109 per night (plus
tax) including breakfast. It is a very nice facility and is
approximately 10 miles from Le Claire. These rooms
will only be held until July 27. When calling for reservations (563-265-2121) ask for the “Lake Ozark Corvette Club room block” to get the discounted rate and
breakfast. Lodging in Le Claire was costly. As the
event gets closer, we will have more info as to departure time, dinner reservations, etc. At this early date,
we already have 3 rooms taken and look forward to
a full block!
For more details, check out the 2016 Vettes on the
River Facebook page
at: facebook\Vettesontheriver.VOTR.
We will send out a registration form as soon as we
receive it.
More info to follow…Larry & Ellen Howery
Peggy Sturn will be handling the LOCC email communication until
further notice. Please send anything you need distributed to the
Membership at large to Peggy at [email protected]. Many
thanks!

James R Allen, a long time member of the Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club, passed away at
the age of 68 on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Jim was married to his wife Joyce for 49 ½ years. Jim served his country proudly in the
United States Army from 1972 to 1992. The Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club was one the
few organizations he was a member of and he proudly drove his 1994 Black Rose Metallic
Corvette to many local events with the club.
Jim’s life was celebrated on February 19, 2016 and he received a full Masonic and Military
Honors remembrance. Fourteen members of the LOCC were in attendance. We shall long
remember our good friend Jim, his patriotism and soft spoken good humor.

"AmeriCARna" which is devoted to the sinkhole episode at the museum.
It is an "in-depth" (sorry!) look at the
event and all the
work that was done
to not only repair
the hole itself, but
also the iconic Corvettes which nearly
died in the event.
The show is at 9:00 CST.
