Dear NAAAP members, sponsors, and supporters,
Welcome to the 2014 NAAAP (National Association of Asian American Professionals/North American
Association of Asian Professional) National Convention and Career Fair at the Hilton Anaheim,
September 4 – 6. 2014. Thank you for attending.
Since 1982, NAAAP has rallied together individuals and organizations that value diversity, leadership
development, and community service. At this 2.5-day Convention, we gather members, volunteers, leaders,
sponsors, and the general public to develop personal leadership capabilities, make meaningful connections,
strengthen partnerships, and to celebrate our 27 NAAAP chapters across North America.
This year’s theme, Rise of Asian America, was selected to celebrate the many achievements and contributions by
Asians in business, government, academia, service, and society. We also take pause to recognize
opportunities where Asians & Pacific Islanders, as a community, and as individuals, can do better – and
continue to rise in the U.S. and Canada. It is befitting that our Friday breakfast keynote speaker is NAAAP’s
Senior Advisor, Bill Imada, Founder & CEO of IW Group, and appointee to the U.S. President’s Advisory
Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and our Saturday breakfast keynote speaker, Kathy
Ko Chin, President and CEO of the API Health Forum, is also an appointee to the U.S. President’s Advisory
Commission on AAPI’s. We are also delighted to welcome Ambassador & Governor Gary Locke who will
address us in person at our Saturday evening Gala dinner, and will also be inducted as a NAAAP 100
honoree, along with Grace Lee Boggs, Harry Lee, and David Tsubouchi.
NAAAP continues to strive to be the premier leadership organization for Asian professionals in North
America. Our mission is to cultivate and empower leaders, connect accomplished professionals, engage with
the community, and inspire members to make a meaningful difference. As a community of chapters in North
America, we work collaboratively to build a strong value proposition, along with our sponsors and strategic
partners.
A big “thank you” goes to the convention sponsors, who not only provide us with funding, but they also
engage enthusiastically in our program. We extend our sincere gratitude and congratulations to all who have
volunteered their time and talent to deliver this convention experience – including members of the NAAAP
National Administration, National Board of Directors, National Senior Advisory Council, Convention
Planning Team, volunteers, and our host for this year’s convention, the Orange County and Los Angeles
chapters of NAAAP. Additionally, we appreciate everyone who contributed their time and talent in the
program array of the convention – the speakers, panelists, facilitators, and artists.
On behalf of the NAAAP community, we wish you an enjoyable and rewarding convention experience. We
hope this energizes you and your NAAAP chapter. If you’re not yet involved with a NAAAP chapter, we
invite you to do so, and/or grow your own NAAAP chapter in your city.
Our Best Wishes to You,
Fabian J. DeRozario

The Filharmonic Performance time: 7:00-7:30PM
With Los Angeles as home base, we now present you with The Filharmonic, a boy band unique in their
musical talent and cultural diversity. The group of Filipino-American youngsters who were featured
in NBC’s hit musical competition, “The Sing-Off”, has much to sing about. Making the semi-finals,
finishing the first “Sing-Off” National tour, sharing the stage with Linkin Park and The Black Eyed Peas,
then being part of the movie Pitch Perfect 2 is only the kick-off to their amazing journey! They consist of
six members: Vocalists VJ Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, and Barry Fortgang, Vocal Bass Jules Cruz, and
Beat boxer Niko Del Rey. Their melodic vocal style exemplifies an urbanesque hip hop sound with
90›s nostalgia.

class, spent most of his time studying, but dreaded P.E. and had bruised
self-esteem every time he was the last person picked for team sports in
gym. He moved to the U.S. to attend university but continued to lack selfesteem in the physical and social arenas. The summer after his freshman
year, he took a leap of faith and ordered the Tony Horton Power 90 system,
filled with hope and inspiration. His support system, on the other hand,
was not. Friends and family laughed, convinced he had wasted his money, stating that skinny was in his genes and there was little he could do
about it. But in his own apartment, he worked out consistently, put on 30
lbs. of muscle mass in just 3 months, and developed a renewed sense of
self-confidence; he had proven everyone wrong. After college, he worked
as an Electrical Engineer and continued to work out diligently. When he
was ready for a new challenge, he signed up for a martial arts class and
